Greater Ann Arbor Region (GAAR) 9 UpdateIn addition to local, established programs and resources highlighted in this Scorecard, The Enterprise Group is able to leverage opportunities for business growth and talent enhancement through our relationships
with our regional economic development partners in the Greater AnnArbor Region (GAAR). Over the years, the GAAR has secured MEDC and Regional Prosperity grant fundsto complete projects such as a Labor Certification Study, Wage Surveys, Familiarity Tours, access toWorkforce data, sponsorship of MFG Day career awareness tours, a Workforce Opportunity Workshop, aregional website landing for Site Selectors, access to available property search tools, regional supplychain sourcing connections, and a multitude of other programs. This regional approach capitalizes onaccess to funding and collaborative marketing to position both the County and our Region as a center ofinnovation and advanced manufacturing, highlighting our combined assets.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
FIRST RoboticsIn late April, The EG partnered with MACI and Consumers Energy to sparkattendance at the FIRST Robotics World Championship at Cobo Hall inDetroit. Concord Schools finished 24th in the WORLD Championships – out of6,000 teams! The partnership with Consumers Energy and MACI has evolvedinto an opportunity for The EG to represent the business community toidentify new middle school teams for this fall, resulting in seven new teams. Thanks to MACI, CMS Energy, Eaton, Diversified Precision Products, The HurstFoundation, Great Lakes Industry, Commonwealth Associates, and The EG fortheir support of FIRST Robotics FTC.
EG INVESTOR SPOTLIGHT: EG Staff had an opportunity to find out why Steve Lazaroff, President atDiversified Precision Products and his team participate, and take an activerole in several career awareness programs such as MFG Day, FIRST Robotics, and the JAC3 Program for our area students. Steve explained, “The county’syouth is the future of Jackson’s manufacturing industry. This field hasevolved past the old ideas and misconceptions into a high-tech, high-skilled,and high paying job market. With a growing number of eligible retirees, it iscrucial to attract and train our younger generation to become the nextworkforce. It has become more and more difficult to locate individuals withthe detail oriented aptitude and skillsets now needed as natural attritionoccurs. Given the increasing demand for highly skilled workers, DiversifiedPrecision Products recognizes the importance in helping our county engageand interest youth into this field. It is crucial to the success of both themanufacturing industry and the overall community.”
Thanks for all you do for our youth, Steve!

“When I was alerted to the fact the property I wanted to develop mighthave some environmental concerns, I contacted the Jackson CountyBrownfield Redevelopment Authority (JCBRA). That turned out to be somereally good advice a friend of mine gave me, because they walked methrough the entire process and found government funding for all theenvironmental work that was necessary. It was a completely positiveexperience for me.”
