This week’s ENW kicks off with a list of numbers: 4 billion, 32m, 337,501, 6,175, 736, 64, 32 and 1. Any idea what these numbers represent? Well they are all connected to the FIFA World Cup. The 1: ______, which is held every four years, is kicking off on Thursday 14th June when hosts Russia play Saudi Arabia. Just over one month later the last two teams will participate in the 21st FIFA World Cup final, although as Russia and Saudi Arabia are the lowest 2: _______ teams in the tournament, it is unlikely either of those nations will be in Moscow on July 16th for the final.

The highest ranked team, and defending World Champion, is Germany who will be aiming for their 5th world title, which would 3: ______ them level with Brazil, who are amongst the pre-tournament favourites. Other nations expected to compete for the title include 2010 champions Spain, 1998 champions France and two-time World Champions Argentina who will be captained by their 4: ______ Leo Messi.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the first occasion that Russia has hosted the tournament. Other firsts for this World Cup is the introduction of Video Assisted Referee (VAR), which it is hoped, will 5: ______ incorrect referring decisions. This edition of the World Cup will also see two debutants: Iceland and Panama. The Icelanders have a 6: ______ group as they have been drawn with Argentina, Nigeria and Croatia. Panama also have a tough draw as they are in Group G with 3rd ranked Belgium, 11th ranked England and 21st ranked Tunisia.

4 Well it is prediction time for ENW – so who do we think will win the World Cup? As much as we really, really would 7: ______ to choose England, our hopes go no further than the quarter final. Looking into our crystal ball we think that Spain will win their second world title in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Although we would 8: ______ accept being wrong if England did end up winning it!
