In the Value Chain it’s about resource optimization, sustainable sourcing and green energy

2

Promises to our stakeholders that we are aiming for

15,000 FrC farms and >1.3 mln cows producing (certified) sustainable milk

Climate neutral company growth and 30% reduction in GHG emissions

Energy, water, waste in our supply chain reduced by 20%

Supporting approx. 40,000 small farmers in dairy farming Asia, Africa

Soy, palm, cocoa, other agricultural commodities sustainably sourced

1,000,000 children reached effectively p.a. with healthy eating & living education

FrieslandCampina: Goal

Achieve climate neutrality throughout the entire chain from cow to consumer by 2020

Motivation for energy management

Fossil fuels are a finite resource

• We will run out of cheap oil and cheap gas in our lifetime

• Global oil production will peak in our lifetime (between 2020 and 2050)

• Dutch gas supply peaked in 2007-2008

Interest in securing our energy supply

• Global demand for fossil fuels is set to exceed supply

• Geopolitics of oil and gas!

Increasing concentration of greenhouse gasses affects global climate

Contribution of dairy to GHG emissions

Dairy includes production, processing and transport of dairy products

Where does the energy go?

Total energy use in 2011 = 61,3 PJ

In 2010, 22.5% of the energy used was renewable energy

Page 8: THE ENERGY AND WATER PROGRAM Coroporate Supply Chain September 2012

Reduction of energy & water consumption is at the heart of the program

Elements of the energy efficiency program: 1.Reduce

energy consumption

2. Use renewable energy

3. Only, if necessary, use fossil fuels, as efficiently and cleanly as possible.

Energy & Water efficiency Program:

• Realize a climate neutral growth reducing Energy & Water consumption more then > 20 % compared to 2010.

• Sustain• Assessments• Awareness

• Stimulate• Favor initiatives

• Support• Scan• Share Knowledge

Page 10: THE ENERGY AND WATER PROGRAM Coroporate Supply Chain September 2012

Elements of the E&W efficiency program

• A survey to identify level of E&W efficiency awareness on plant level.

• Awareness plan based on change management regarding environment.

• An assessment structure to assess the maturity of E&W efficiency approach within the FrieslandCampina plants allowing on a comparison internally

Favour initiatives

Share knowledge:

• Criteria for Energy & Water efficient projects and initiatives• Identify and monitor E&W efficiency related projects in FC project

data base

• Benchmark information, on plant, product, unit operations and competitor level

• Knowledge sharing; networking, expert teams, and community’s of practice
