1 From the Dean: Thanks to Donna Sloan and St. Brigid’s Catholic for hosting “Pedals, Pipes and Pizza” in October. There were about 15 students who participated in this event, designed to encourage the study of the organ. Greg Koziel, organ technician, Jim Walsmith, piano teacher at Colonial Middle School and André Duvall, SubDean facilitated the demonstration and explanation of the pipe organ. It was fascinating to see the student’s and parent’s faces when they played and heard the different sounds of the organ. Students were reminded of the scholarship program for lessons available through the AGO and several were interested. What a worthwhile endeavor for our chapter. I hope to see you at Lord of Life Lutheran on November 7 to hear Bob Knupp of Mississippi College (Debbie Smith and Marc Ceresier’s alma mater) present his program Historic Organs of Germany: Performance and Presentation. You will find his bio and picture elsewhere in the newsletter. Thank you to Theresa Osbahr for creating a poster advertising this meeting. You can view the poster on Facebook and on our website. As we head towards Thanksgiving and cooler temperatures, I hope we will pause each day to give thanks for the many blessings which have been bestowed on each of us. Health, happiness and creating music are just a few blessings that come to mind, as well as the collegiality we enjoy in our AGO chapter. I encourage you to reach out to other organists who are not members and encourage them to join our ‘ranks’.
