According to a study by international societies, Alliance

for Affordable Internet (A4AI), Malaysia was in the fourth rank in the Internet Affordable 2015’s index, which is before Thailand (ranked 13th), Vietnam (22nd), China (23rd), Pakistan (25th), Indonesia (27th), Philippines (29th) and India in the (30th).

Malaysia is also recognized as a global leader in the usage of instant messaging (IM), where 77 percent of Malaysians use it every day, followed by Singapore (76 percent) and Thailand (74 percent).

Communications and Multimedia Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak, through his blog, sskeruak.blogspot.my said that, there are over 21 million people in this country who uses a smartphone. It is driven by the competition in the market leading to a bid by the company that ultimately makes internet Telco is affordable.

These developments certainly provide a clear picture that Malaysians are internet savvy and attached to the information and communication technology (ICT). The proof was where in October 2015, Google Barometer Study found that, Malaysians topped (91 percent) as a “multi-tasker” in the world, by using a cell phone while doing other things, such as watching television and doing homework. The study even claimed that 58 percent of Malaysians prefer to do research on items sold online. From these, 30 percent of them decided to make online purchase. Smartphone is also often used to surf social media (87 percent) and search engines (79 percent).

The study and the percentage specified not only provide a clear indication to the change of the culture between Malaysians communication, but also in the context of spending, it appears they are increasingly exposed to products which are sold online. This

Because of his deep interest in doing business, he keeps his reverie to do business. The strength of Dato’s empire does not depend on your product but on your personality itself?

True. People know me as a guy with small voice, loud, talkative, and a good actor as I am able to attract people’s attention. But that is okay. However, people have to understand that I am an entrepreneur and a spokesman also a model to my own product. I spent at least 2 million per month for advertisement to appear on the TV, radio, newspaper and also magazine. I did not do it for fun but for business. Just imagine that to appear on television for a duration of 2 minutes, I have to pay RM60,000. I have to ensure that people trust my products. When people recognizes me, they will try these D’Herbs products. My personality is my product and if I have 1.2 million followers on Facebook and Instagram, my products will become closer to consumers and customers. I had go through many “doors”, vicissitudes and tears to build up D’Herbs empire, so I want to make sure that D’Herbs will be growing as champions of all cosmetics in Malaysia and Asia.

Online entrepreneur is increasing. What do you think?

Seven years ago, when I first started my business influences, there were not many competition. But, approximately 3 years ago, there were many other brands such as Bella Ammara, Vivy Yusof and Nealofar Hijab. In a blink of an eye, these young entrepreneurs became a millionaire. Their success have become the starting point of every online entrepreneurs to make their own business. This is a good thing for our own country.

Do you trust this online business?

Yes. Of course. The marketing online business influence is at the second stage after marketing on TV. Shopping habits of Malaysians have turned to online shopping. Today, variety of online business are emerging. A wise entrepreneur should follow the current trend, therefore since three years ago, D’Herbs also venture online sales and the results are quite remarkable.

Where does the strength of this online business?

Of course to the response, layout, product display, signs, and interaction with customers. Online business runs 24 hours non-stop. Then, of course, customers expect a fast response to any questions. Frankly, I have a group that manage my Facebook and Instagram. They need to update the types of products, programs and activities not only involves D’Herbs products but also involving me. This group is a strong backbone for my online marketing.

What do you think of D’Herbs in 10 years time?

D’Herbs aimed to become a famous brand of cosmetics not only in Malaysia, but throughout the world. Today, I have 45 cosmetics branches and 30,000 agents throughout Malaysia. The building in Kota Damansara, I bought for RM30 million. I also have building in Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia. D’Herbs products had already making inroads into Singapore, Brunei, Thailand and Indonesia. I also have two spa (Selangor and Negeri Sembilan), which is Aliff syukri Properties Sdn. Bhd. which has over 200 properties nationwide, and the factory itself known as Aliff Herbs Manufacturing Sdn Bhd. I do believe that nothing is impossible. Once upon a time, I wanted my product to be a “local hero” in Malaysia, but today I want the Asian Countries to be impress with my product.

Dato’ is famous with gimmick and many people want to follow your steps. Do you have any comment?

In business, there are several phases. I do gimmicks when I was 23 years old and I considered it appropriate to my age although it is annoying. I am not doing it for the glamorous but to generate income. Glamorous but without money, you have nothing. I love to work faster but ensure it is a success. At the beginning of my appearance in TV, too many people have denounced me as if there were 1,000 “soldiers” who want to discredit me. Thus I have to make sure I was on the top to ensure that I will not fall down because of the critics. I believe if I want to taste the honey, I have to be prepared to be stung by bees.

Three words to describe Dato’?

“Orang kampung”, fussy and stingy. I never forget my roots as a village kid. I have to be fussy to ensure the safety of my products. I only bought branded items and took business class for flight after I have RM30 million in my savings.

How long does it take for you to surf the Internet everyday?

Every five minutes, I will reach my Facebook and Instragram through my phone.

Dato have 1.2 millions followers in Instagram, how far do you trust them?

My success today is because that they trust me and the product that I have produced. Therefore, I also put a full trust in them. Without them, I would not be here. Malaysian and I were lucky as the government allow us to access the Internet without any restrictions. We are free to do business on Facebook and Instagram. So, Malaysians, let’s take this golden opportunity!

In today’s technology, anyone can immediately be recognizable with their own talent through the help of specific applications. Jokes while entertaining followers is the current trend. Although it is just an entertainment, but it is still able to popularize an ordinary people to become famous just as a leading artists. Aiman Salim was among the more prominent stars in #instafamous. Videos that he uploaded was amusing. Now, on Insta-gram, his followers had already reached 73 thousand! Great isn’t?

How you can be that famous within a short time? What is the strategy that you use that to make you famous in a short time?

It’s all because of the videos that I’ve been uploaded in my Instagram. If you hit a jackpot, you’ll win everything. Previously, I did not uploaded all of my videos, but once I uploaded, people will spend their time on it. So the keyword is “jackpot”, or in other words, it’s a fortune. Alhamdulillah, this can be known as fortune for me to be known by many people. I have no intention to be hypocrite. I have faith that I am very confident with my capabilities and that is more than enough.

Relationship with the fans is one of the strategy that this #instafamous personality to be recognized. We have to be good in controlling the situations, so that sooner or later, people won’t hate us. What would you think of the statement?

Do not ever criticize your fans. As for me, I am valued by my videos and I admit that not all the videos are the best. However, when my fans started to give negative feedback, do not be upset about it. Let it be and be more professional. Another tips is to always be kind to the fans by creating videos that is related to

the people. From there, we can clearly see that our lives and other’s peoples’ lives are just the same.

All of your videos will surely be getting thousands of ‘likes’ within a short period of time. However, who is Aiman Salim in reality?

My name is Aiman and both my parents call me as Aiman. I am just an ordinary people. I just wanted to be known as an individual who makes people laugh and happy. I do not have other intention other than that, even I myself are happy with my jokes.

How do you feel after being famous?

I am glad about it. Who doesn’t want to be famous? However, I am still trying to make myself useful to these especially when people come and greet me. I am still awkward with this kind of situation. Yes, it’s a nice feeling but it’s important for me to control myself so I will not forget where do I came from. Apart from entertaining people, I want to help my family as well. My parents worked so hard to raise my brother and sisters, so it was the time for me to help the family anyway.

If you have many followers, would it be a loss if you doesn’t use this opportunity to do business?

Yes, I have an online business that sells clothes locally. After living through Instagram, I start to do online business and creating my own local brand called “Young People”. I am a student and would not run away from the problem of losing budget and spending money to unnecessary things. But with this business, I can generate a small income for myself. I was lucky with the medium like Instagram, I can make the best possible. To people out there, do something based on what your interests are. Do not give up. Finally, do not forget to follow my business instagram account @youngpeopleclothing and my personal account @aimansalim_ S

SHOUT! H1 2016

In 2011, when the idea of this young man, Amir Muhammad to build a company that published novels in Malay known as Fixi, many consider the establishment was “mediocre”. But, because Amir has his own followers and had great talent in producing novel, his name began to climb up. When a lot of people were crazy to sell various beauty products and clothing online, Amir tried something else and certainly not popular in the eyes of most people. However, it was worth all the effort. Fixi.com.my phenomenon. Now, these guys are smiling, not because he was proud of himself, but because he was proud to produce so many writers and generate their income and most importantly foster interest in reading among Malaysians. Let us know who is Amir Muhammad and his Fixi book.

THANK YOU FACEBOOK!If you looking at the current trend, because of the uses of smartphones and social media are more widespread, physical book is no longer the first choice for people to educate or entertain. Only a teen romance novel that are still exciting the readers. Many of the novels had been selected to be adapted to film and TV drama. Due to that, it is difficult for the publishing company to publish any manuscript of interest but not for Fixi Books. Yes, Fixi Books is a publishing medium magazine in the new millennium where it provides an opportunity for amateur writers to produce works that a ‘little’ different and sell it online or at the famous outlet bookstore.

The idea to publish Fixi came on August last year in an event organized by Popular. At that time, the top ten best-selling malay novel for the previous year is listed, and almost all embedded word ‘love’ for each title. At that time, I kept thinking to make a difference.

Call for entries. Yes, there I send a message to all members of Facebook Matahari Books, which is my first company and the list of suggestions for anyone who wants to write. I’ve set a conditions, including 60,000 words, slang language and celupar, urban themed and contemporary and one word for each title. Among 2,500 members, only 11 of them give response, but only three novels (both completed and in accordance with criteria) were screened such as Pecah, Cekik and Kougar. So I am very grateful with Facebook, because without it, Fixi Books may not be able to launch and recognizable.

IDENTITY, UNIQUE AND DIFFERENTFixi. Yes, the concept is as unique as the name. The company name was taken from the Indonesian word ‘fiction’ that is inferred from the English word ‘fiction’, drawn from Old French ‘ficción’, and also taken from the Latin ‘fictionem. In short, it shows that nothing is genuine in the novel world.

INSPIRING MALAYSIAN

And what about the target reader that Fixi Books have? Do they have targeted specific groups?

The goal of our readers basically to anyone who can read our national language, including those who prefer to read in English. Even ‘Fixi style’ has different style of Language. We want to emphasize on the plot and different styles that are immediate and in-your-face. At overseas, it is called as pulp fiction. For your information, usually pulp-fiction genre is focused on the elements of life that are darker, and the hot and sensation, but still maintains the sensitivity of the issue. In fact, the concept of the book cover are also different. Unlike most novel uses photography, we are more focused on the illustration.

Not afraid by the publishing industry which is increasingly weakens due to Malaysian attitude who stops reading? And what is the strategy of Fixi Books to remain alive?

We believe that there are still many Malaysians who are actually reading, but the published manuscripts have to be according to their wishes. Yes, Fixi inspired from a series of romance novels, but we are not anti-love. It is just that our presence is to add variety to the scene or Malay series novel that is still happening! Four of our books have been published and have been sold to Indonesia, and three also have been made into a movie: Pecah, KL Zombi (novel adaptation of Zombijaya) by Grand Brilliance that has come out, and Gantung by Red Films that will be with the audience later this year.

What is the expectation of Fixi Books and how Amir sees Fixi Books for the years to come?

Yes, of course I want to see Fixi Books to be the choice for readers who wants variety in their reading regime. Honestly, our primary focus is to select novel that will impressed as a novel and we want it to remain. We also hope to be able to produce many novel writers to ‘switch on’ the publishing industry from being overshadowed by an increasingly digital era dominated. Finally, readers can visit the website, fixi.com.my to select the type of reading that we offered. We can be followed on social sites and shops especially popular bookstore, throughout the country. Finally, happy reading! S

An Extraordinary Transformation Agent -

Sujana Mohd Rejab

INSPIRING MALAYSIAN

Sujana Mohd Rejab, can you tell us a little bit about your project transformation’s background that you had created?Sujana : This project started during the year of 2014. At that time, I was looking at the 3D printing until I found one article about a kid from United States who received free “3D hand”. So, from there, I was thinking to come out with a printed 3D hand. I have uploaded one design about that on Facebook to find anyone who are willingly to try my design. However, many were not interested. After 8 months, I decided to give the hand to this one girl, Ainaa Amanda who is 7 years old after knowing that she has no hands. From that moment my printed 3D hand became viral and caught people’s attention.

What are the advantages?Sujana : There are two types of hands, which are mechanical and electronic. Electronic is where we use battery and more expensive. For those who cannot afford it, they can use the mechanical. Anyone can do this 3D printing if they have the 3D printing and 3D software.

To be the best among the best there must be a sacrifice. Not many people are willing to sacrifice for something that is uncertain. Only those who are really talented and have big soul will able to do something outside of the usual. As a result, success will definitely be with them. SHOUT H1 2016 revealed two talented individuals and they are one of the winners for the National Transformation Agent 2015.

Any individual can print it and give to everyone. This invention cannot be assumed as a human hand, but only aids as a tool. It can help the individual doing their daily task and in form of their psychology. For example, a school boy who had a deformed hand will feel ashamed and isolated. By giving this 3D hand which looks like a robot, his friends will come close to him. Maybe after two or three months, he will no longer be wearing the 3D hand because he already felt comfortable seems like a normal human being. We are now targeting his psychological, not the hand.

How would this invention will help the society?Sujana : Just imagine that you do not have your finger, and then I gave you one free finger. How would you feel? Happy isn’t? Whenever I invented this, I always put myself as low as them.

How much does it costs?Sujana : It depends on the type of disability but it cost around RM300 to RM1,000 for each mechanical hand and for the electronic type, it would costs around RM2,500 and above.

How can we inspire today’s generation to have a big talent like you?Sujana : Interests and concerns are important in producing more young people in this field. I had noticed that many young people were interested in it. Eventhough, if they are not talented, they can still contribute for the materials and energy to make this 3D hand prints. They can share it on their Facebook to support the project.

You are an English teacher, why do you resign?Sujana : Yes, I quit. Not because that I lose interest but I want to get a different experience in delivering knowledge.

What else do you want to achieve?Sujana : I want to become a producer of 3D printers which will be install itself here. It already exists. The items are 80 percent of rural and 20 percent from the state.

Idol and inspiration?Sujana : My idol is only one -Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. and my inspiration will always be Steve Jobs. S

Dr. Ruzaimi Mat RaniBackground information regarding your new project?

Dr. Ruzaimi: I have taken the initiative to develop drawing skills in shaping generation with a good visual communications skills. The next generation must be equipped with visual communication skills to ensure effective communication can be achieved optimally. Thus, contributing to productivity. I realized this initiative activities since 2007 through the production of books in national and international levels relating easy painting techniques such as Sketching Masterclass, Sketching Basics, Visual Presentation and book series’ Painting Book. Sketching Masterclass (already dubbed Japan). Three of them entered the United States (US) and European markets.

To create a big number of individual as Dr. is a very good thing but how do you do that?

I came from Terengganu and studied in some primary schools in the state. Next, I continued in Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK). I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to receive education in a very different perspective. In MCKK, we are exposed to the success of former students no matter at national or even the international levels. This revelation made me to become more dynamic about something. What I am advocating is that young people should be given the opportunity to know better the successful people closer. I recommend to create program or known as ‘mentor’ which is fully funded by the government. It should be made in the long-term (10-20 years) program where younger children are educated by mentors selected for the program.

What is your online project? I have started with several online projects such as blog: freedrawinglesson.blogspot.com during 2008 for the use of students studying painting online and this effort continues. As of 9 August 2016, this blog has a total of 326 followers and views of more than 2 million. In 2009, I set up a channel known as ‘miandza’ on YouTube to develop drawing skills to more people around the world. More than 800 demo video have been produced by me and by 4.7 million views reach. As a result, a total of 20,777 have subscribed. In 2010, Facebook page (freedrawinglessons) was created to allow more people connected with the knowledge and skills of drawing. As a result, a total of 16,000 more followers were collected and the number grows. Whereas Facebook page (drawzania) almost 4000 people. This year, one of the video that I produced became viral on Facebook, around the world, especially in Latin America. In 2014, I produced the e-learning platform

comprehensively which: www.dramazania.com from e-content fund by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The vision of this platform is to become the main reference in the world of e-learning painting techniques using a tutorial video. So far, the platform has produced a total of 3000 tutorial video that consist of 14 major categories. So far, about 2,000 people have registered to use this platform.

An extraordinary Transformation Agent -

A must read book?Dr. Ruzaimi: Visual meetings and Visual Leaders by David Sibbet.

Online shopping make life easier? Do you agree and why?Dr. Ruzaimi: Yes, as it saves time and can search more items and also can save some cost for something else.

Five items that you bought online?Dr. Ruzaimi: Book, members registration, software and application.

What will happen to us without technology?Dr. Ruzaimi: Slower in doing any activities especially the one which are complicated to deal with.
