M ESSAGE FROM H OD

W e at M IT ECE depar tm ent str ive hard to br ing that in to the focus for our students. I t has been a very event fu l l year wi th lots of act ivi ty out of our ECE depar tm ent and gives m e solace that the events are recorded wel l by th is th ir d edi t ion of the news letter of EM ITERs is tak ing shape. Depar tm ent of ECE, since i ts inception in 2007 has been constant ly str iving to better i tsel f and has com e a long way with var ious act ivi t ies both cur r icular wise and co-cur r icular wise.Today depar tm ent is vibrant wi th m ore than 35 staff (teaching and non teaching) and has 5 PhD holders along with m ore than 10 facul ty pursuing PhD's, and two at the cusp of com plet ing their PhD's. Each and every facul ty has a m in im um of M Tech and are encouraged to pursue their PhD's on their topics of in terest. Lots of r esearch papers have been publ ished, encouraging f inal year students to publ ish their project work .

The depar tm ent star ted the year wi th the Fresher?s day, which has been now becom e a defacto standard across the col lege, and are planning an alum ni m eet.Our depar tm ent Em itter s Utsav was conducted with var ious act ivi t ies such as Debates, Quiz, spor ts, etc and was wel l r epresented by the students of al l the years. Newsletter com m ittee is work ing to m ake th is a great success, I wish them al l the best.As always, the newsletter wi l l be focused towards better ing the student exper ience at ECE of M IT.

Every year m any students join the Electron ics & Com m unicat ion Engineer ing course and i t is necessary for them to be com for table dur ing their academ ic stay. Aim ing at the som e, a fr eshers day was organized on 16/09/2019. The event was inaugurated by Dr. M ahesh Rao - H ead of Dept. of ECE, Dr. Ram anna -Associate Prof. Dr Ravichandran Associate Prof, Dinesh M A -Assistant Prof. by l ight ing the lam p. Then the event cont inued with the pr ize distr ibut ion of Quiz. Freshers was greeted by the senior s with token of love by the lovely bands. Then the in form al funct ion was conducted with som e spot com peti t ions and dance com peti t ions for which the fr eshers were awarded. Facul t ies were in tr oduced to the fr eshers then ru les and regulat ions of the depar tm ent were discussed along with the cur r iculum progress. The occasion ended with vote of thanks and refreshm ent by render ing snacks for al l the attendees.

QUIZ EVENT

On the occasion of "ENGINEERS DAY 2019" the students of 3rd sem ester volunteer ing as a team cal led ?GRAND CAST? had organized a quiz event cal led "INQUIZZITIVE H OUR VERSION-1" on 16th of Septem ber 2019.

The event was a 2 day program held on 15th & 16th Septem ber , i t had a total of 4 r ounds, am ong which 2 rounds were pre-select ion rounds that was car r ied out through onl ine wr i t ten test on 15th Septem ber , m ore than 50+ students had contested in the event out of which top 10 contestants were selected for the prel im inary round on 16th of Septem ber.

On the day of f inals 2 rounds were conducted, r ound 1 was ?Rapi d f i r e r oun d?, the round was al l about general knowledge quest ions in which top 5 contestants were selected for the f inal r ound. Before the beginn ing of the f inals there was audience zone in which al l the students and facul t ies of E&C depar tm ent act ively par t icipated. The f inal r ound was ?W ho am I ?? am ong the top 5, 2 contestants em erged as winners.

The content of videos included gett ing star ted with eSim Linux instal lat ion, gett ing star ted with eSim W indows instal lat ion, schem atic Creat ion and Sim ulat ion, device M odel creat ion and Sim ulat ion, M apping Com ponents with Footpr in ts, sett ing Param eters for PCB design ing, laying Tracks on PCB, PCB Layout for Astable M ul t ivibrator.

The par t icipants of the workshop were teachers fr om var ious col leges in the states such as GEC, Padre Conceição Col lege of Engineer ing, Shree Rayeshwar Inst i tute of Engineer ing and In form ation Technology, Parvat ibai Chowgule col lege, ITI-Cacora, ITI- Canacona & Governm ent Polytechnic Panaji . The par t icipants had to watch each of these videos, fol low the instruct ions and repl icate the sam e. I f there were any di ff icul t ies then such quest ions were to be put up on the forum which was then repl ied to by the organizers. This workshop was ent i r ely based on sel f-learn ing so that the par t icipants fam i l iar ized them selves to eSim by gett ing a f i r st-hand exper ience.For the valedictor y funct ion, there was a panel discussion wherein the par t icipants asked di ff icul t ies related to eSim in their r espect ive Rem ote Centres.

A r epor t on ?On e Day w or k shop? i m pl em en ted successfu l l y at I IT Bom bay, w i th fun d i n g f r om NM EICT, M H RD Date (21st Septem ber 2019)

On 21st Septem ber , 2019, one day workshop on eSim im plem ented successful ly at I IT Bom bay, sponsored by National M ission on Education through ICT (NM EICT), funded by M H RD was conducted at M aharaja Inst i tute of Technology M ysore.

M aharaja Inst i tute of Technology, M ysore under the Pandit M adan M ohan M alaviya National M ission on Teachers and Teaching (PM M M NM TT), M H RD, Govt. of India organized a one ? day W orkshop on ?eSim ? on 21 Septem ber 2019. Around 120 Rem ote Centres par t icipated in th is workshop al l over India, M aharaja Inst i tute of Technology M ysore being one of them . The workshop coordinator was Dr. Balak r ishna K and rem ote center coordinator for the workshop was Prof. NandaKum ar R B. The ent i r e workshop was guided by Dr. Balak r ishna K and wel l assisted by M r. Rajesh N and M r. Sandesh N G. In the inaugural funct ion, Prof. Kannan M oudgalya, FOSSEE project, I IT Bom bay spoke of the im por tance of eSim and also talked about the f low of the workshop and the teaching facul ty of the workshop, Prof. Pram od M ural i explained why hardware has been included. Fol lowing th is, M s. Nancy Varkey in tr oduced the Spoken Tutor ial Forum . The workshop was solely based on learn ing eSim using Spoken Tutor ial where in par t icipants were in tr oduced to 9 videos on eSim .

Depar tm ent of Electron ics and com m unicat ion engineer ing conducted two day workshop on ?Basic electron ics and PCB design? On 20th and 21st Septem ber 2019 workshop for students. Prof. Lokesh BS and Prof. M adesh K M coordinated the event.

TECH NICAL TALK BY H ARSH A K IK K ERI ON "H OLOSUIT AND VIRTUAL REALITY"

The Depar tm ent of ECE had organized a talk by M r. H arsha Kikker i , CEO,

H oloSuit on "H oloSuit and Vir tual Real i ty " on 27th Septem ber , 2019, 9.00

am -10.30 am at M ITM Sem inar H al l for the benefi t of B.E 3rd Sem ester

students. The H OD ECE, Dr. M ahesh Rao welcom ed the resource person.

M r . H ar sh K i k k er i has over 18 years of exper ience in In ternet of Things

(IoT), augm ented/ vir tual r eal i ty and robotics, wi th exper t ise in drones,

sensor fusion and m achine learn ing. H e has ear l ier worked in the robot ics

division at tech giant M icrosoft . At present he is the CEO of H oloSuit

founded by h im in 2016.

M aharaja inst i tute of technology M ysore, depar tm ent of Electron ics and Com m unicat ion Engineer ing, IEEE Robotics & Autom ation society was inaugurated on 13th Novem ber 2019. The chief guest who inaugurated the funct ion was Dr. Ajish.K. Abrahm , H ead of AAC depar tm ent AIISH M ysore.

The chief guest of the funct ion addressed the ent i r e gather ing and gave a br ief insight on the pioneers who star ted the group. H e also spoke about the advantages of being a m em ber of IEEE student chapter and in fluenced al l the student to join IEEE for the betterm ent of their car r ier.

The student chapter was inaugurated in an innovative way by com m anding a ROBOT to shake hand with the chief guest.
