Legend of Elder
SEPR Group Eider
The Eider Duck Game
The Eider Duck Game is a top down RPG where you play the Eider duck
trying to reach the Position of Elder Duck by helping your allies and
destroying the evil on University of York campus.
Use your arsenal of ranged weapons to keep your enemies away from you,
allowing you to progress through your quest into 8 deadly locations on the
UoY campus filled with enemies and obstacles.
Setting Up
In order to run the game, you do not need to install any additional software. You
simply have to click on the "EiderScrolls.exe" file and start playing. Your
computer also has to satisfy the minimum requirements of the game specified
here. The game is playable on Mac, Linux and Windows platforms.
Controls

In - Game
WASD/Arrow keys - These are used to control your character's movement
across the map.
Esc/M – Pauses the game and opens up your menu.
Left mouse button/Left Ctrl - Attack with your current weapon in the
direction of your mouse.
Q/E/Mouse scroll wheel - Switch between weapons.
Space/Left mouse button (during dialogue) - Progress dialogue.
Getting Started
When the application is launched it will open into the main menu.
Before starting the game there are a 4 settings you can change, the first 3
can also be altered mid game:
1. The volume can be set by sliding the pointer up and down the slider
2.Game difficulty can be set by selecting one of the options
3. Endless Gameplay can be toggled

4. Choose from a drop down menu of types of eider ducks to play as
(unavailable in the current version)
Once you are satisfied with the settings, click “Start Game!” to begin the
game.
Menu
When Esc or M is pressed the initial pause menu screen will appear and the
game will be paused:
1.This icon will unpause the game and return you into gameplay by
removing the menu
2.The bag icon will open the inventory menu for the player
3.The gear icon will open up the game’s settings menu
4.This button will quit the current game and exit to the main menu
5.This button will quit the current game and exit the program

1. This icon will close the backpack menu and return you to the menu
screen
2.This allows you to select the food items in your backpack by using arrows
to scroll through them. Each item gives you a description of energy and
health restored and how many held. The “Eat” button will apply these
benefits
3.This allows you to view all the weapons available by scrolling through
them using arrow keys. A description is given for damage the weapon
applies and whether or not the weapon is “Available” (if you currently have
it or not)
4.This allows you to view which powerups are currently active on the
character. If greyed out the powerup is inactive and if coloured it is active.
Placing your cursor on a powerup will explain what it does

1. This icon will close the settings menu and return you to the menu screen
2.By clicking and holding on the circle you can slide it up and down the
slider line to determine how loud the game volume is. Far right is loudest
and far left is muted
3.By clicking underneath the labels on the line you can change the difficulty
of the game by making the enemies more formidable
4.Selecting the box will enable endless gameplay where you will respawn
on death
How to Play
Upon loading into the game you will find 6 main things:
1.The character you are controlling
2.The menu button, this can be clicked to access the menu
3.Your character’s health bar and total health displayed
4.The weapon that is currently selected
5.The points accumulated in the game
6.Your mouse cursor as an aimer
The Game:
In the Elder Duck Game you explore the UoY Campus to complete quests
given by your allies and destroy anything standing in your way to gain a
high score.

Quests are collected by talking to NPCs around the map who will give you
tasks to complete and reward you with the respective points when
completed. These quests are displayed on the Objectives menu on the top
right corner of the screen:
Another way to gain points is by killing enemies that stand in your way.
Enemies:
MEET BOUNCER - 100 points
Watch out for this frog and his unpredictable leaping attacks, although his
deadliness may seem limited at first with his inability to deal damage you
must watch out for his slowing effect before it lands you in trouble!
MEET SWAGRAT - 10 points

These menaces swarm out of their holes multiples at a time wasting no
time to charge you down and attack by throwing themselves into you, it
only takes a few hits to die so keep your distance!
MEET DUCKLING
Although he may look menacing this little fellow is one of your kind and
won’t do you any harm! Watch them all roam round the campus outside
having fun
Apart from all the enemies you find in your way you will also encounter the
randomly spawning “Cannon” somewhere on each map shooting cannonballs
non-stop. The cannonballs are shot directly at you so keep moving!

Locations:
The game works on a scrolling top down perspective following your
character, you explore the exciting world of the University of York by
wandering the map to progress.
There are 8 areas that make up the map of UoY:
· The Heslington East Campus:
· Ron Cooke Hub
· Computer Science Building
· Law and Management Building
· Goodricke College
· Langwitch College
· Constantine College
· Inside Ron Cooke Hub
· Ron Cooke Hub Cell
Power-ups:
Power-ups are collected through the course of the game by various means
such as quest rewards or pick-ups, these are automatically applied when
collected and displayed in the backpack menu. They are used to enhance your
character temporarily through the means of:

Speed increase
Health increase
Damage resistance
Weapons:
There are three weapons for you to choose from on the game. they can all be
switched from either the mouse scroll or by using the E and Q keys
Magic
This incredible projectile can be used to kill enemies from a distance with
the magic of the eider duck.
Fireballs
This is your standard weapon to hit enemies before they can hit you.

Bow and Arrow
If firing magic of fire itself at your enemies is not good enough, you can
simply hit them with this old, yet effective weapon.
Collectables
Spread across the map, there are collectable objects that will help throughout
your journey. Collect them by walking over them and you will be able to
consume them at any point, by looking into your inventory and clicking the
button “eat” to restore your health. The collectables are:
Apple Berries Bread
Demented Mode
Legend has it that occasionally strange things descend on campus that affects
everyone’s mind. They say it dements you, waterfowl transform and gain
magical powers. You confuse yourself and lose the ability to control your own
movement and everyone enters great peril!
But it’s only a legend so don’t worry, we’re sure nothing like that would
happen to you!
Progression

You start off trapped in a cell in the Ron Cooke Hub, you must break out and
make your way to freedom and allies by getting past the enemies in your way.
After escaping from your captivity, you will have to empower yourself to
destroy all evil within the university and become the Elder Duck. To achieve
that ultimate state, you will have to carry tasks from allies that will help you
on your journey. Simply talk to them by walking next to a friendly NPC and
see what it is they need you to do.

Each quest will award you with more points as well as giving you more
powers. Use them to get your rightful place as the Elder Duck!
