• Construction of Leaside Station is unique as it uses two different methods to construct the station underneath Eglinton Ave East – Cut and Cover and Sequential Excavation Method (SEM).

• Utility relocations and support of excavation (also called shoring) are the first steps in constructing Leaside station.

• Leaside station construction involves a combination of a cut and cover method and a mining method called Sequential Excavation Method (SEM).

2016 Construction

• The shoring stage at Leaside Station is expected to start in September and will take approximately one and a half years to complete.

• An area the size of the station’s footprint (about 100m x 20m - the size of two hockey rinks) will be cut, a shallow area excavated, and steel piles, braces and tie-backs will be installed around the sides to support the excavation.

• Decking is then placed over the excavation to allow the crew to work under the roadway safely while traffic flow resumes above, excavating to a depth of about 22m for the site of the station box.

Pedestrian Impacts

• During utility relocations, temporary work zones will be set up in and around the Eglinton Ave East and Bayview Avenue intersection, as well as on Craig Crescent, Bessborough Drive, Roehampton Avenue, Bruce Park Avenue, and Mann Avenue.

• During both the utility relocations and the shoring stages of construction, traffic will be shifted in stages to the north and south sides of Eglinton Avenue East. Shifts also occur to the east and west sides of Bayview Avenue.

• Lane reductions and various turn restrictions will be implemented.

• Public notices will be distributed with the details of these changes.

• During utility relocations pedestrian routes are maintained.

• During shoring, certain pedestrian routes and crosswalks will be closed for periods of time. Wayfinding signage will be displayed to direct pedestrians to the new route.

Since fall 2015, crews have been preparing Eglinton Avenue East for construction of Leaside Station. Starting in late June, crews will begin utility relocations at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue. Following this, crews will begin support of excavation (or shoring) for the future Leaside Station.

Transit Changes• Five (5) bus stops will be relocated affecting bus numbers 11, 34, 51, 54, 56, 100,

334 and 354. Please watch for signage and TTC service updates.

Utility Relocations• Starting in July, hydro and

telecom utilities will be relocated in and around the intersection at Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue.

• This work is expected to last up to six (6) months.
