ABSTRACT
Amalia, Normislona. 2017. The Effect of Note Taking on Listening
Comprehension of The Third Semester Students of English Department at
IAIN Palangka Raya. Thesis, Department of Language Education, Faculty of
Teacher Training and Education, State Islamic Institute of Palangka Raya.

Keywords: Effect, Teaching, Listening Comprehension, Note Taking.
The main purpose of the study was to find out whether the students whom
taught using Note Taking gain better scores than the students whom taught
without Note Taking at third semester students in Interpretive Listening class at
IAIN Palangka Raya. The type of this study was quasi-experimental, and the
writer used quantitative approach in finding out to answer of the problem, the data
collecting techniques used test and documentation.
There were two classes of study namely B class as experimental group and
C class as control group with the total number students which B class 25 students
and C class 25 students. The sample of study was determined using cluster
sampling technique. Both groups were given pretest before treatment. Then, the
students of experiment group were taught by using Note Taking and control group
was taught without using Note Taking. Finally, the writer gave posttest to both
groups. The normality of the test was pretest and posttest of the experiment group
in Kolmogorov-Smirnov was higher than level of significance Alpha used or r =
0.830> 0.05 (pretest) and r = 0.356 > 0.05 (posttest) and the normality of the test
was pretest and posttest of control group in Kolmogorov-Smirnov was higher than
level of significance Alpha used or r = 0.393> 0.05 (pretest) and r = 0.349 > 0.05
(posttest) so the distribution are normal. The homogeneity from pretest of
experiment group and pretest of control group on homogeneity of variances in sig
column is known that p-value was 0.351. The data in this study fulfilled
homogeneity since the p value is higher 0.351> 0.05. The homogeneity from
posttest of experiment group and posttest of control group on homogeneity of
variances in sig column is known that p-value was 0.372. The data in this study
fulfilled homogeneity since the p value is higher 0.372 > 0.05.
In the result of hypothesis was using calculation of T-test with SPSS 18.0
The result of t-test which calculated by using SPSS 18.0 found the value of
(tobserved) was greater than (ttable) at 1% and 5% significance level or
2.01>3.37>2.68. it was interpreted that alternative hypothesis (Ha) stated that
students who were taught listening comprehension using Note Taking gain better
scores than the students who were taught without using Note Taking was accepted
and null hypothesis (Ho), students who were taught listening comprehension
using Note Taking did not gain better scores than the students who were taught
listening comprehension without using Note Taking was rejected. It meant that
using Note Taking in teaching listening comprehension gives effect on the
students’ listening comprehension at the third semester students of IAIN Palangka
Raya.

ABSTRAK
Amalia, Normislona. 2017. Pengaruh dari Note Taking Terhadap Pemahaman
Mendengarkan Siswa Semester III Jurusan Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Palangka
Raya. Skripsi, Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu
Keguruan, Institut Agama Islam Negeri Palangka Raya. Pembimbing: (I) M.
Zaini Miftah, M.Pd., (II) Aris Sugianto, M.Pd.
siswa. Sampel penelitian ditentukan dengan teknik cluster sampling. Kedua
kelompok diberi pretest sebelum treatment. Kemudian, siswa kelompok
ix
mengajarkan pemahaman mendengar memberi efek pada pemahaman
mendengarkan siswa pada siswa semester III IAIN Palangka Raya.
