EDEN ECHO THE 75¢ In God We Trust THE CENTER OF TEXAS VOLUME 114 Issue 31 July 30th, 2020 USPS 167-540 FALL FEST UP- DATE: This was not an easy deci- sion for the Eden Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases and the continuous change in orders from the Gov- ernor, we have decided to cancel Fall Fest 2020. We did not see a way to safely plan and manage this event with social distancing rules and other mandates. One of the best things about Fall Fast has been that it brings people back "home" from all over the place! Unfor- tunately, this would not be safe for our community at this time. Our top priority is the safety of our citizens. We will continue to moni- tor the situation for future events. We will support our community and businesses in any way we can. Top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow has revealed that millions of Americans should expect another $1,200 stimulus cheque in their bank ac- counts and mailboxes this fall. “Don’t forget, there’s a $1,200 check coming. That’s going to be part of the new package,” Mr Kudlow said in an inter- view with CNN on Sunday. Earlier this year, Congress approved the Treasury Department to cut $1,200 checks to nearly every American taxpayer, with extra monetary benefits for parents with children under 18. While Republicans in both the White House and Congress have said another round of direct payments would be included in the fifth sweeping coronavi- rus aid package they've been negotiating, they had not previously announced an exact dollar amount. Party leaders have also not specified who would qualify for the government handout. The GOP was supposed to unveil a $1trn Covid-19 relief package aimed at buttressing the health care system, putting Americans back to work, and getting their children back to school this fall, but infighting between Donald Trump's negotiators from the White House and Sen- ate GOP leaders has de- layed that roll-out. One of the cannons sent to A&M for conservation this week is from the esteemed Phil Collins Texana Collec- tion, which was generously donated to the Alamo in 2014. A beautiful naval gun is an iron cannon with a 5-inch bore and is believed to have been created in Britain back in 1800. Like the rest of the priceless artifacts in the Phil Collins Texana Col- lection, this cannon will be proudly displayed for the public on the grounds or in the upcoming Alamo Museum. The other two cannons sent for conserva- tion were likely used during the battle in 1836. “After the amazing re- sults we had working with A&M’s Conservation Re- search Lab (CRL) in 2018 on eight other cannons from the battle, we cannot wait to see what CRL discovers while restoring these three cannons," Alamo Conserva- tor Pam Jary Rosser said. "Last time we gave CRL cannon to preserve they discovered information on where and when they were cast, and even unfired can- non balls discovered in the breech. We cannot wait to see what the TAMU conser- vation lab discovers while the three cannon are being conserved," Rosser added. The other two cannons were originally created in Spain, with one dating back to 1750. These two cannons are on loan from the San Jacinto Battleground Asso- ciation (also known as the San Jacinto Battleground Conservancy), and the Mc- Combs Foundation respec- tively. After the conserva- tion process is complete, each cannon will be dis- played at the Alamo in ad- dition to the six conserved cannons currently located in the Alamo Arcade. Texas A&M also completed conservation work on two Alamo battle-period can- nons this week, which were previously on display at La Villita. These two cannons, owned by the City of San Antonio, along with the three that were sent to CRL for conservation this week, will bring the total number of likely battle cannons at the Alamo today to 9. Conservative commentator Candace Owens published a livestream video on Wednesday, decrying the movement for trying to turn George Floyd into a martyr for black America. The death of Floyd, a victim in a Minne- apolis, Minnesota, police killing, spurred on nationwide protests following his May death. What are the details? Owens in a Facebook Live video said that she refused to buy into the idea that Floyd should be the impetus for a race relations overhaul in the United States. “I do not support George Floyd and the media depiction of him as a martyr for black America,” she insisted. Pointing out Floyd’s troubled legal his- tory — including a time when he report- edly threatened a pregnant woman with a gun during a violent robbery — Owens explained that she’s not defending the of- ficer accused of killing Floyd, but simply refuses to accept the martyr narrative. “You would be hard-pressed to find, you know, a Jewish person that’s had five stints in prison that commits a crime and dies while committing a crime and that the Jewish people champion and demand justice for,” she said. Owens added, “I want to be very clear: What I am saying is not any defense for [accused former police officer] Derek Chauvin. I hope Derek Chauvin gets the justice that he deserves to be implemented upon him, and that the family of George Floyd deserves justice for the way that he died.” ‘Nobody wants to tell the truth in black America’ Floyd’s violent criminal history also included convictions on charges varying from theft with a firearm to drugs. “He has a rap sheet that was long and was dangerous,” Owens said. “He was an ex- ample of a violent criminal his entire life, OK? Up until the very last moment.” She insisted, “I am not going to accept the narrative that this is the best the black community has to offer. George Floyd was not an amazing person. I am not going to play a part of the broken black culture that always wants to martyr criminals, to pretend that they were upstanding human beings that just wanted to help society.” The conservative commenter also pointed out that the black community should be ashamed of itself for holding Floyd up as an example. “We are embarrassing in that regard,” she added. “This is why we have a cycle and a toxic culture because nobody wants to tell the truth in black America. It is so easy to be effective it is so easy to ask white people to bow down and apologize and do all these things for us. It is crap.” She concluded, “Racially motivated police brutality is a myth.” Candace Owens Makes a Good Point About George Floyd Protests We Hope you read all the Articles in this weeks pa- per, especially the one on the back page by: Eliza- beth Lee Vliet, M.D. It concerns the use of a known cure/preventa- tive for Covid19, that has purposely been withheld while deaths occur.
