• Nazis eliminated unemployment by reinstating military and weapon related factories but these weapon factories relied too much on imported raw materials.

• They tried to fix this issue by limiting imports, using savings and exporting goods, but did not succeed.

The Four Year Plan

• Hitler attempted to solve Germany’s economic issues by commencing his Four Year Plan.

• This plan started on October 18, 1936.• The objective of this plan was to make Germany

autarkic by making synthetic materials, using their own resources that were of lower quality, and extracting oil from coal.

• This plan did not work and Germany still relied on foreign imports for certain raw materials.

Blitzkrieg

• Germany was aware that they were unable to win wars of attrition. However, they still had need for land and resources.

• Germany adopted a new strategy of warfare, called Blitzkriegs or Lighting wars, that allowed them to stage swift attacks on isolated, weak areas that were rich in resources.

• This was the strategy used when taking over Poland
