www.bellevuepublicschools.org Attendance in September Our mission here at Betz is to provide a foundation for learning where students recognize and develop their unique potential. In order to accomplish this mission, students must be present and on time to school. In the month of September, the percent of students who were absent at least part of a school day increased from 35 to 42 percent. The percent of students arriving late to school at least one day increased from 31 percent to 35 percent. Please ensure your student is in school everyday and try to schedule appointments outside of the school day. Parent Teacher Conferences Parent Teacher Conferences are a regular part of our reporting system and will give your child and the teacher an opportunity to discuss progress and accomplishments with you. We feel this conference is one of the most important steps in your child’s education. Conference times will be sent home on Friday. Halloween Party On Friday, October 31st, students at Betz will be participating in a Halloween Parade. At 2:15, students will begin putting on their costumes. The parade around the neighborhood will begin shortly after students are dressed. The PTA is providing goodie bags for students. Students must be able to put costumes on independently over their clothes. Make-up, colored hair spray, toy weapons, and violent or gory costumes are not allowed. If you do not want your child to participate in the parade, please contact their classroom teacher.

Safety During Dismissal We strive to ensure students and staff feel safe at school.
Betz Elementary School has established several afterschool expectations to keep students safe: • Students are to enter vehicles on the side closest to the
curb. • Students are to only cross streets at crosswalks • Students are not to enter streets if cars are blocking the
crosswalk. Without these expectations, students could potentially get
hurt if drivers did not notice them in the street. For this reason, if you are parked on a crosswalk, you will be asked to pull forward by a staff member. Your cooperation will help to keep traffic flowing and students safe!
Parties & Treats As stated in the BPS Student Handbook: Three classroom
parties, sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Associations, are approved for the Bellevue elementary schools. Sending treats for birthdays or other parties is not permitted. Also, delivering
party invitations to students during the school day is not permitted.
