Did you go to the art show at the Steeple-

gate Mall? If you did, you were seeing

artwork from over 700 different Concord

students from all 7 Concord schools.

In an interview with Mrs. McCormack,

we found out that the art show has beenaround a long time. Mrs. McCormack re-

members that the art show has been around

since she was a kid but it used to be in the

 public library.

Mrs. McCormack said art is meant to

be seen by families and friends and the art

show is a great way to do that. The mall

has been kind enough to donate a space

and lots of people get to see the show

there. This year, the art show was open

from March 5 to April 15.

This year, Mrs. McCormack was the art

show coordinator. The art teachers in Con-

cord worked with staff from the steeple-

gate mall to make the art show a success.

Mrs. McCormack said it was hard to

say what inspired each individual artist

because art is so personal. Many projects

are based on the assignment the teachers

give the students. But each artist adds

his or her own unique perspective and

emotional response to the art work. We

asked Mrs. McCormack how the art-

work is picked for the show. She said

they try to have a nice variety of differ-ent projects, grade levels and students.

Teachers selects high quality work from

around 100 students from each school.

Mrs. McCormack says the people who

helped put the art show together were

maintenance staff who

transported all of our

display panels, students

at Concord High who

made the cookies for the

opening, Miss. Gillam

who helped with tech-

nology like QR codes

and Aurasma videos,

and kids who worked

hard to create pieces for

the show. Mrs. McCor-

mak says a big thanks to

all who helped.

On earth day my

friend and I were

walking and I said,“It’s earth week.

Let’s pick up trash.”

She said, “Ok”. We

 picked up four bags

of trash! We found

trash by a pond, in

the street, and in

 people’s yards too.

We were sad to

hear that there were

fish in the pond that

could have diedfrom the pollu-

tion. I thought that

I should ask people

around my school

what they did for Earth Day. This is what they said….

Answers:

1. Planted a tree and flowers.

2. Picked up trash all around their house.

3. Planted a bush

4. Picked up trash at Fenway park.

Peep, peep, peep! What’s

that you say? Well of course

its Mrs.Harrison’s chicks andducks! Our class started to in-

cubate chicks and duck eggs.

We got them at the beginning

of May. Every day, our class

had to turn the eggs twice so

that both sides of the eggs can

keep warm. During the week

of 5/19, 8 chicks had hatched

and they were sooo cute and

extremely fluffy. Then the next

week, the ducks eggs hatch

and there were 2 out of 3 du

eggs. From experience we hlearned that ducks are w

messier than chicks. Overa

Teachers & Staff

Have you ever wondered

what it’s like to be a fourth

grade teacher? To find the an-

swers we asked Mr. Komorek

and Miss Hepburn! Miss Hep-

 burn went to Assumption Col-

lege in Worcester, MA and Mr.

Komorek went to the State Uni-

versity of New York (SUNY)Plattsburgh in New York.

The reason Miss Hepburn

 became a teacher is because

it is something she’s always

wanted to do. The person who

inspired Miss Hepburn to be-

come a teacher was her mom.

She grew up watching her

mom teach and spent her days

off in her mom’s classroom.

We discovered that Miss Hep-

burn’s favorite part of the dayis guided reading and her least

favorite part of the day is in-

door recess on rainy days.

The way that Miss Hepburn

plans her lessons each day is

that she looks over curricu-

lum and maps to see where

her class is and plans lessons

based on that. She looks over

math lessons ahead of time to

see what is being taught and

she prepares everything thatshe needs ahead of time. The

way that she meets everyone’s

needs in one day is she re-

teaches lessons if needed and

makes small groups of kids

 providing a variety of activi-

ties based on student’s needs.

We were also wondering

how she keeps up with her

school work? She said that

you need to use time wisely

and bring work home. Miss.Hepburn has taught grades 3,4

and 5. We also wondered what

time she woke up in the morn-

ing on a regular school day

and it turns out she usually

wakes up about 5:15 in the

morning. In her free time she

reads, watches the Bruins and

does things with her friends.

We also interviewed Mr. Ko-

morek to see what he thought

about fourth grade! The rea-son why he became a teacher

is because his parents were

teachers. We asked if some-

thing/someone had inspired

him. He said that his 10th

grade global studies teacher

Mr. Davis had inspired him.

Another question we had

for Mr. K was what is his

favorite part of the day. He

answered, “When students

walk in in the morning.” Hisleast favorite part of the day is

when he can’t have fun. The

way that he plans his lessons

each day is by looking back

what was taught the day b

fore. The way that he kee

up with everyone’s needs

one day is time manageme

and classroom managemen

The way that he keeps up w

his school work is through la

nights. He does have to corect papers at home. He h

taught third and fourth grad

He gets up at 5:00 in the mor

ing, and after school he has

pick up his daughter. He h

not coached a sport and if

did he would coach lacros

In his free time he spends tim

with his daughters, goes f

walks, bike rides, and he lov

cooking. That wraps it up f

days in a life of a fourth grateachers. Special thanks to M

Komorek and Miss Hepburn

would have noticed that Mrs.Hastings is not there. Sadly,

Mrs.Hastings had to leave for

find out how things were going

Concord High Baseball JV CoachBy Garrett Sisson and Dominic Mangone

We interviewed Kevin

Steed, who is the Concord

High JV baseball coach. We

asked Kevin if he played base-

ball growing up as a kid and

he told us that he did. Then we

asked what position he played

and he told us catcher. We also

asked if he went to ConcordHigh and he told us yes. We

asked what team he coached

and he answered the Con-

cord High JV baseball team.

We wondered why he started

coaching because almost all

coaches have different an-

swers. He said, “Because I

 played for Concord High and

I liked to teach kids lessons

about not only baseball but

also life”. Mr. Steed has been

coaching for 6 years!!!! Not

only is he a coach, he is alsoan Informational Technology

 person, otherwise known as

the person who fixes our tech-

We have done some research

on the Concord high baseball

team. We found out that the

varsity coach, Scott Owen, is

going into his 13th season of

coaching Concord High. He

is also the Rundlett physical

education teacher. Mr. Owen

graduated from Springfield

include Andrew Cole, Chan-

On May 29th Concord

 played Dover (the number one

team for division 1) and took

the win with a score of 8-1.

Josh Partridge pitched six in-

nings for Concord and had

Bengston closed the game for

Concord and also made an

outstanding double play for

the Crimson Tide. Their cur-

to get better during the rest of

Spring 2014 The Eagle Insider

This is no Dr. Seuss, it does

not rhyme… but it’s still im-

 portant! Remember these 3

sentences…calling someone

“fat”... does not make you

skinny. Calling someone

“ugly” does not make you

“perfect” looking. Calling

someone “stupid” doesn’t

make you a “genius”. We

are all the same… we have

all been called a name… we

have all been hurt! :( Continu-

ing the cycle though, *breath*

it only makes it … Worse!

So next time you say some-

thing “mean” or “rude”...

think: you’re only re-creating

your hurt for someone else. It

won’t fill your hole of hurt. So

please remember these 3 sen-

tences… again, calling some-

one “fat”... does not make

you skinny. Calling some-

one “ugly” does not make

you “perfect” looking. Call-

ing someone “stupid” doesn’t

make you a “genius”. Thank

you. :)

Blue sea, sunset in the evening, sea shells on the ground,

sand dollars very delicate, scallop shells very shiny, sea

gulls flying in the air, sun is shining on your face, wind

 blowing your hair, sand between

your toes, as the sunset is going down it is now night time

Everyone is now asleep

And so are you
