Finishing Your Merry Little Ornament
1. Count out 16 threads from the back stitched border (about 1/2”) and trim each piece between the 16th and 17th threads. Measure the size of each piece between the back stitched borders and cut a piece of matt board or mounting board just slightly smaller than this measurement.

4. Lay the ornament face down (with the wrong side facing you). Position the batting covered mounting board in the center of the piece, edges aligned with the back stitched borders and glue or tack it in place (see illustration below).

6. Carefully lining up the back stitches on all sides and ladder stitch the back stitches together using 1 ply of whatever thread you used to make the back stitches. You will be taking the needle and thread under each back stitch once, first through one stitch on the back of the ornament, then through one on the front of the ornament. As you come to the beads shown on the master chart, thread a bead on your floss before you make the ladder stitch. Work this stitch all around the ornament until all sides have been stitchedtogether (see illustration at right). Pull the ladder stitches tightly each time you pass from the front to the back to pull the sides of the ornamenttogether. Stitch right through the ribbon pieces when you come to them.
7. Use the remaining piece of silk ribbon and tie a bow around the base of the top loop. Trim the ends of the ribbon.
3. Fold the raw edges of each piece toward the back along the edge of the back stitched borders (see illustration below) mitering the corners as you fold..
5. Place the other piece on top of this piece, wrong sides together. You are now ready to join the two sides of the ornament.
2. Find the vertical center of the board and draw a pencil line from top to bottom of board. Cut a 14” length of ribbon from the 24” piece and fold in half. Glue one bottom half to the vertical center of one side of the mounting board and the other bottom half to the other side (see illustration at right). Cut two pieces of quilt batting the same size as the board and glue one piece to each side of the board (over the ribbon)
