Davon Thornton: The Basketball Role Model
By: Kaniyah Flournoy
The boy’s basketball team had a rough season but they tried their hardest and Davon Thornton
proved to be the star player. Other players played their best, but Davon really stood out as the
star player. I asked Davon a couple questions:
Who inspired you to play basketball? Davon Thornton said, “My grandpop and it ran in the
family.”
In your opinion do you think that from all of the games this season, do you think that you
scored most of the points? Davon said, “I think I got most of the points but we all put in a
good effort”
I asked Davon, “Do you think everyone on the team was strong and athletic?” His response
was, “Yes.”
“Do you think you worked very hard on the team?” Davon said, “I try my best on the team
and off the team.”
I asked Davon, “ How tall are you?” Davon said, “I am 6ft tall”
My last and final question for him was, “If a fourth grader approached you and said that you
inspired them to play basketball, what would you say?” He responded with, “Thank you. I am
blessed.”

What is a Leap Year?
By: Mya Wood and Brianna Cronin
A leap year is a year containing one additional day added to keep the calendar
synchronized with the astronomical, or seasonal year. A complete orbit of the
Earth around the sun takes exactly 365.242189 days to complete, but the Gregori-
an calendar uses 365 days. The leap day is an extra day added to February, the
shortest month of the year.
Leap years were invented by Roman general Julius Caesar over 2000 years ago. The Julian calendar only had one
rule: any year evenly divisible by four would be a leap year. This produced way too many leap years, not corrected
until 1500 years later. With the introduction of the Gregorian calendar.
If the year is divided evenly by 100 it isn’t a leap year, unless it is evenly divisible by 400. The Ancient Rome cal-
endar added an extra month every couple years to maintain the correct seasonal changes.

Social Media
By: DANIELLE TOUGHILL AND SABRINA BARRILE
Have you ever wondered what type of Social Medias are out there? Well here you go. The most popular
social media is Facebook. On Facebook you can find new friends or old friends that you don’t see very
often. Plus you can make new friends. Don’t you want to know what people are up to? Well you can on
Facebook. In 2nd place is Twitter. Twitter has a lot of breaking news, trends, learn information, find
different companies, and most famous people use twitter. If you want to be the craft queen of the
neighborhood you’re in luck! The perfect social media for you is Pinterest. There are so many things
such as recipes, DIY’s (Do It Yourself), clothing, decorations, crafts, and millions of ideas for you to cre-
ate and enjoy. Then there is google plus+ in 4th place. Google plus is mainly for people who need emails
for things such as YouTube. This is where you can post updates, have live hang outs, message friends,
sell products, and mainly meet new people. It’s like Facebook, but it’s really not. In 5th is Tumblr.
Tumblr is mostly a blog, re-blog like post. Tumblr is like Facebook and Twitter combined. In 6th place
we have Instagram. If you’re a fan of sharing photos then I think this is the perfect social media for you.
There’s mostly kids on there, though. Parents are usually on Facebook and probably wouldn’t even think
of Instagram. Of course you shouldn’t keep anything from your parents and it’s totally great if your par-
ents have Instagram. If you’re trying to get a message out instead of typing out a huge paragraph why
not post a photo that perfectly describes it! You can also show who you really are. Post quotes or nice
photos to show your true inside and how you feel. For example posting a photo of the sun showing
you’re bright and happy. Finally, let’s all be honest. It’s just plain fun! Now in 7th place is Flickr. This is
a place where you can share your photos and videos, where there’s the best storage, groups, and it’s
active. For example you can share photos and videos without keeping them on your device so you can
keep them there instead. Also groups and active people can be great if you want to communicate with
more people. Finally, coming up in 8th place is, you guessed it, Vine. Vine is a 6 second video sharing
app. I know what you’re thinking. Six seconds? Yep, and they can be very entertaining whether it’s com-
edy, drama, a short movie, really anything. All in six seconds. Pretty cool app.
The following is how many users are joined on the Social Medias.
Facebook-1,100,000,000 users
Twitter-310,000,000 users
Pinterest-250,000,000 users
Google Plus-120,000,000 users
Tumblr-110,000,000 users
Instagram-100,000.000 users
