THE DOWER HOUSEThe Dower House is believed to date from 17th Century with mid-19th Century extensions. The property is Grade II* listed and has been described as a ‘remarkable assembly of late Tudor and Jacobean styles’. The Property boasts many attractive features including chamfered stone framed casement windows, a crenelated parapet and a brick tower.

The property is approached through a pair of wrought-iron gates, along an impressive gravel drive sweeping through the lawns and terminating with a large turning area in front of the house.

Beyond the outer entrance hall is the elegant reception hall with an outstanding Jacobean staircase. From this room are the four principal reception rooms, the drawing room, dining room, library

and study. The kitchen/ breakfast room is well equipped and opens out into a wonderful orangery which in turn gives far-reaching views over the garden and grounds beyond. There is a well-appointed breakfast room beyond which is a laundry room, wine store, cloakroom and store room. There is also access to the self-contained first floor flat.

Over the first floor are six bedrooms and six bathrooms of which four are adjoining. Off bedroom six, a door leads through to a two bedroom self-contained flat. There is a door leading to a spiral staircase which give access to bedroom 7 on the second floor and the ‘tower room’ on the third floor. In all, the internal residential square footage amounts to approximately 9,365 sq ft.

OUTSIDEThe Dower House has a brick built three car garage opposite the front door to the property, beyond which is a shed for storage and a machinery store near the entrance gates.

To the southern side of the property is a tennis court and a strip of woodland.

The garden and grounds have been maintained to a high standard and provide an impressive setting for this fine country house with far-reaching views stretching over the open countryside. The formal and structured gardens are to the south and west of the property. There is a sunken stone terrace on the southern side, which is partly enclosed with stone steps leading up to the main area of lawn.

There are expansive areas of level lawns to the east, south and west of the property, the majority giving excellent views south over the adjoining farmland. We believe the garden, known for its spring display of bulbs and flowering cherry trees has, in the past, been open to the public.

COTTAGEAVAILABLE BY SEPARATE NEGOTIATION

Pear Tree Cottage can be approached directly from the village road or via a path with a pedestrian gate from the main property. It is Grade II listed and built of brick with part tile hung elevations under a clay tile roof. In brief, the property is over two floors and comprises drawing room, sitting room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and cellar. Over the first floor are two double bedrooms. In addition, there is a small garden to the rear which is fully walled and mainly laid to lawn.

This property may be acquired by separate negotiation, or kept by the current owners.
