Atonement starts in Ex. 29:33 with the ceremonies of consecrating the priest and this is the first time you will find the word atonement but atonement started back in Gen. and I will cover that in the chapter "The First Shedding of Blood" but it will take too long to explain here and which can be confusing. This is the start of the tabernacle and burnt offerings beginning with Aaron as a Priest for Israel. The word Atonement appears in 7 verses in Ex., 43 verses in Lev., 15 verses in Num., and once in 2 Sam., 1 Chron., 2 Chron., Neh., and in Rom.

Romans 5:11 (KJV) And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Note: This is speaking of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and this is the only verse is mentioned in the N.T.. Atonement is a covering over of our sins, to pardon our sins, to forgive or purge away.

General or Unlimited Atonement - This type of atonement suggests that Jesus Christ died for everyone which cannot be true or all would be save. If Christ died for everyone than their salvation was lost somewhere in their lifetime. We know that salvation is a free gift and cannot be lost once saved. So the question is if Christ died for all than why are people going to hell or where did they lose their salvation? So we look at this verse about believing in Christ to be saved. In John 1:12 " But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" and so if all we atoned for than this verse would be contrary to salvation because all are saved.

Limited Atonement - This type of atonement is more of the Calvinistic view of the doctrine of Atonement. This view suggests that only the elect are atoned for and that Christ only died for the elect and not the lost. If Christ did not did for the lost than why is the lost going to hell. If Christ did not die for the lost then the lost had nothing to reject and the law of God's elect unjust. So the lost could say at judgment, "why did you not die for me and I would have believed". If atonement is limited to just the elect than why preach the gospel because the elect are saved anyway. Which makes Matthew 4:17

"From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" and in Mark 16:15-16 "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned". In this, Christ cannot condemn the lost for rejecting him.

Sufficient Atonement - This type of atonement only states that Christ fulfilled the law only. This is getting out of the general part of doctrine and moving to a deeper understanding of atonement.

Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Note: We are the ungodly and in due time Christ died for us.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

Note: Christ here fulfilled the law which requires a perfect sacrifice to cover sin.

2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

Note: If you read these verse it suggests that Christ died for all which will prove unlimited atonement but no two verses will contradict each other.

Sufficient Atonement in simple terms that anyone can understand it fully.

God is the Heavenly Banker that owns the bank. Christ is a bank with an account for everyone and each person born in time. The Holy Ghost is the gatherer of the people to come to the bank and get his account from Christ. So the Holy Ghost searches the heart of every man, woman and child on earth. God says to the Holy Ghost, "Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually" and because of this I even I the Lord have promised my Son that He will not come back empty handed. So I have written a book of names in the Lamb book Of Life.

Philippians 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

So God sent the Holy Ghost to touch every heart that is written in this book to REPENT and come to Christ. So he enters the bank and excepts Christ's free gift of life account. The lost look in the window and they may even enter the bank to look around. A servant of the Lord will ask him, "Come and take out an account of life". Some ponder the thought, some will laugh at the other and will study the Bakers manual(Holy Bible) but will not except an account.

Others will set up faults bank and calm they are connected with God's bank and even hand out faults accounts. Only the ones touched by the Holy Ghost get official accounts and the rest reject the accounts. This is also election and how it works. You wear your account on your heart and in your soul so when you die the right angel will take you home or

take you to hell.

And this is why it is sufficient for everyone but only the elect will except Christ.

Have you?
