Walk Winding onto Castlelaw Hill Length 6 miles

Dogs on walk Archie, Finlay, Gina, Jerry, Otis, Solo, Tim

Archie was in a bit of a funny mood today. Turns out that he missed his breakfast and

possibly more importantly missed Anne-Louise this morning. Perhaps deep down he is a

mummys boy. Right from the outset he kept stopping and looking over his shoulder as we

climbed out from Bonaly as though Anne-Louise would miraculously appear. It got so bad

that at one point I had to put him on the lead otherwise we would have been all day

    getting anywhere.

Even the appearance of a young puppy near Bonaly Reservoir did little to spur him on. I

had not spotted it in time to get the dogs to heel so Jerry out front was in there with his

nose. And although a little way behind Tim made short work of getting there too. Finlay

was not interested he was still hurtling along the track in search of the little stream that

goes under it. I managed to get the rest to heel but that all fell apart when it turned out

one of them had stolen the puppys ball. I found it bouncing on the track with no one

admitting to the crime. Rather than throw it back to the owners and risk pandemonium I

walked back and gave it to them. Meaning their puppy was once more surrounded by

    inquisitive noses.

On we went by-passing the reservoir to Finlay and Solos disgust. They looked at me from

its banks as I kept along the track heading for the open hillsides. I almost let them in for

the steam Finlay was after turned out to be awash with mud. Several dirty dogs emergingfrom it. But we would visit it on the way back.

So we pressed on over the shoulder of Capelaw Hill. An erratic sky which could bring more

sun or heavy rain. It turned out we got both sometimes at the same time.

Otis had taken a liking to Gina. He has with all female dogs it seems. And he followed her

like a lovelorn puppy. She did manage to break away for long enough to have a chase withJerry. Racing up the steep hillside tearing through the heather.

Lines of ant like people dotted the sky as they made their way along various hilltops. More

people about than I have seen in some time. A dog with one couple came racing down

Capelaw Hill as we dropped toward the gate and the meeting with another track which

would take us all the way to Castlelaw Hill. They whistled to it but with little impact. It

was enjoying the attention of all but Archie who was slow to catch up. By the time hereached us we were through the gate waiting for him and the other dog had run back up

    the hill.

Once we had conquered Castlelaw Hill, under a dark band of cloud like a very low roof

which ours head were about to bump against, Archie finally sprung to life. With the rain

starting he raced in the hilltop grass and heather getting Gina, Otis and Tim to play as

well. As I scrambled down the steep path carved into the side of the hill they ran on withJerry joining them. Finlay and Solo leaving them to it and setting the pace. Too fast for

me as I carefully picked my way between holes and dips and slippery gravel.

Now we were heading back and Archie was up with the rest. Finlay and Solo were

overjoyed when we stopped off at the reservoir. As though we were not all wet enough

anyway. Gina who we now know can swim did not manage with so many other dogs vying

to swim toward the circles left by thrown stones. Looking somewhat cleaner we headedback down the wide track and through the woodland at the edge of Bonaly to return to

    the car.
