PHYSICAL: Christopher aspect looks like he has some type of disability. At first sight no one can know if he has autism. He has light skin with grey eyes. His hair is brown and has some reddish hair also.

PSYCHOLOGICAL: Christopher is a kid who is really smart. He has many qualities but also many problems. He is a boy that was detected with autistic spectrum condition. He loves his father Ed Boone. He also is really sad and disappointed that his mother Judy is dead and he does not see her anymore. He wants to investigate himself the murder of the dog, because he thinks no one knows what happened, so he wants to discover the truth. Because of some things that happened he lost the trust of his dad.

SOCIAL:He does not like people being around him so much. He is very special in that aspect of life. He is also a very closed boy that has difficulty making friends and talking to them. One thing he has is that he only speaks the truth. He does not tell any lie to anyone. Maybe that is why he does not have many friends.

I AM SAM

Sam has the disability called autism.

Characterization –

• In what ways is Sam more insightful than other characters in the movie? How is this evident to the viewer? Sam always wanted everything perfect in her life. He wanted her daughter to have a really good life and nothing to be in disorder.

• How does Rita’s life parallel Sam’s life? If her life parallels Sam’s, does this make her a dual protagonist? Rita and Sam are parallel in their lives because the both have 7-year-old kids. They both have trouble; Sam lost her and wants to get her back. And Rita´s son hates her. He doesn’t like being with her or doing anything with her.

Movie Analysis

• How do Sam and Rita change? Sam teaches Rita many things about love and life without even knowing it. Sam gave many advices to Rita that made her see her life better and get it right. She also changed everything that made impossible for her and her son Willy to be happy. He was a great teacher for her even if he didn’t even notice it.

Sam has the capacity of a 7-year-old. He has a daughter named Lucy. The authorities take her away, and Sam Works with the lawyer Rita Harrison to get her back.

• Throughout the movie, the viewer becomes privy to only a slight amount of information about Annie, Sam, or Lucy’s mother. Plan and write a background story for Sam, Lucy’s mother, or Annie. What happened to them when they were younger to make them react as they did in the movie? Submit the story in writing or create a film of one to three scenes with a group of classmates explaining the background story for these characters.

Lucy´s mother escaped and left Sam and Lucy alone. Just when they left the hospital with Lucy being a newborn she left. I think that in her family, her

parent’s didn’t like disabled people. Maybe when she married Sam, she felt left alone from her parents. So that’s why she left Sam and Lucy. Her parent’s didn’t talk to her if she stayed with Sam married.

Symbolism—

Throughout the movie, notice the predominant use of color. There are scenes full of blue, of yellow, and of red. In art, these are known as primary colors. What do these primary colorssymbolize throughout the course of the movie? Which color is Sam? (If Sam is different and you read a book about accepting differences and learning to try something new, which color is Sam? Think of his work place aprons and how they also change color.)

Blue- it symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.Yellow- Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.Red- Red is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure.

The primary color the movie has is a blue. In many moments of the movie the screen looks blue.

He now worked on Pizza Hut. The color is red. This means this gives more love, or people get hungrier. It changed a lot of Sam.

Sam in my opinion he symbolizes the colors blue and yellow. He has all these qualities like: loyalty, truth, joy, happiness and wisdom. Even with his disability he has all this qualities.

CRISIS EVENT IN MY LIFE

Crisis events happen all the time. In my life I have one crisis event in particular that happens to me very often and a lot. It is when I have a problem with one of my brothers. They are very jealous and protective of me. They are 3 older brothers that have 25, 22 and 18 years.!! 1. Every time I go out with my friends, they ask a lot of questions. They ask exactly with who am I going or where. With my clothes they are the same. If I put on a skirt they go crazy, they hate that I dress nicely. They tell me to go change, so sometimes I do need to go change but other times, my mom tells me to not care about what they say. !! 2. I really get mad sometimes because I am a girl, that likes to dress nicely and go out with all my friends. So I start to shout at them at home and go crazy. But at the bottom of their opinions I really know that they just want the best for me and want to take care of me. Another thing that bothers me a lot is that if I go out with a boy or someone invites me on a date, they go crazy, more than me. They don´t like letting me to go on the date, but they don't have sometimes any choice. ! 3. It is something they can´t control, their jealousy. Because they are my older brothers, I am the only girl in the family and they know how men are and act around girls. So they are in the correct thing by making me a lot of questions about my life very often.

Dear  Monica,  

First  of  all,  I  want  to  congratulate  on  your  pregnancy.  It  is  a  pleasure  for  me  that  you  have  invited  me  to  your  baby  shower.  I  am  really  happy  for  you  and  Tom  your  husband.  I  knew  it  wasn’t  a  piece  of  cake  but  it  was  some  thing  you  both  wanted  so  much,  so  you  fought  for  it.  In  one  hand,  I  am  pleased  to  tell  you  all  about  my  life  and  what  happens  in  it.  I  haven’t  seen  you  since  last  summer!  

  When  I  last  saw  you,  you  had  just  tied  the  knot  with  Tom.  However,  our  experience  at  Cancun  was  awesome.  Because  of  this  I  think  I  learned  many  things  about  life.  Each  opportunity  you  have  to  be  with  your  friends  and  family,  you  should  take  it.  Everyone  has  to  keep  an  eye  out  for  another.  We  had  a  lot  of  fun  that  is  why  I  wanted  to  start  something  new.

  This  new  thing  I  wanted  to  start  was  helping  kids  with  problems.  This  project  was  similar  to  the  one  we  saw  once  when  we  were  kids.  First  I  got  my  wires  crossed  because  I  had  confusion  with  my  Hirst  kid.  He  was  a  really  troubled  child.  So  then  I  went  back  to  square  one.  I  had  a  new  idea,  to  help  kids  with  difHiculty  in  their  language.  At  that  point  I  had  nothing  else  to  do.

  In  spite  of  this,  I  went  to  a  school  for  kids  with  special  needs.  This  school  was  really  different  that  any  other  schools.  For  example,  in  every  school  there  is  just  a  teacher  by  class.  But  on  this  one  they  had  more  than  one.  When  I  went  to  visit,  I  was  left  with  a  ball  and  a  chain!  They  left  me  for  an  hour  with  the  kids;  I  didn’t  know  what  to  do  with  them.  I  was  bushed  after  that.

  As  a  result  of  that,  I  really  decided  to  go  with  just  one  kid  at  a  time.  This  was  a  tough  decision  for  me,  because  I  get  too  attached.  Then  I  got  a  new  kid.  His  name  is  Christopher.  He  is  such  a  nice  15-­‐year-­‐old  boy  who  needs  help.  He  is  really  putting  an  elbow  grease  in  this.  He  wants  to  learn  to  communicate  better  with  other  people  and  society.  It  wasn’t  an  easy  job,  but  I  want  to  help  him  get  a  better  life.

  In  my  opinion,  I  think  that  Christopher  is  a  really  nice  boy  with  good  intentions  to  learn.  He  has  a  lot  of  trouble  but  he  will  nail  it  at  the  end.  According  to  my  thoughts,  he  will  learn  many  things  in  less  than  a  year.  On  the  other  hand,  I  will  tell  you  more  when  I  go  to  see  you.  But  it  has  been  really  nice  telling  you  all  of  this.

How can I help a kid like Christopher fit into society?

How can I help him develop his language in such a way that other people may understand what he tries to express?

Christopher is a boy with many problems in his life. He is 15 years old and has a syndrome that prevents him of doing many things that other kids do. Some of this thing can affect him emotional. For Christopher to fit into society he has to work a lot. He needs to really control himself and make a very strong effort to try and fit in society.

For every person in the world, it is hard to fit in society. It can be in so many things, that you can´t imagine them all. Some of them are the way a person looks, their body, the way they eat, the way they act, the religion they have or in many occasions also the traditions they have and follow. This is a very difficult thing for every one, not just for Christopher. In other occasions, kids that have some kind of disabilities also struggle to fit in the society we live in. it is really hard for them because they do not follow what everyone does day by day.

For him to express himself and other people understand him well he has to gain it. What I mean with this is that it has to be a way that everyone knows well and he learns it too. It doesn’t need to be literally speaking but in other way. In my idea, it could be writing all that he has to say. For example, if he wants to ask a question to someone he writes it and he or she answers to him speaking. It is a great way to communicate and have a language that all the people can understand.

I think that everyone deserves to have a way to communicate themselves and have the right to it. Even if they have different culture, traditions, religion, skin color, body, or even race. No one should be discriminated.

WHAT I FELT RESEARCHING ABOUT AUTISM AND ASPERGER´S?

When I was researching about Autism and Asperger´s, I felt sad. I think it is a very special and hard topic to study and learn about. By looking for them I found out a lot of things. I found the things that happen to the children with those disabilities. When you see a kid with a disability on the street or any other place many people look at them like they are wired people. In my case, before I knew about the disabilities and

investigated about them I saw these kids really rare. Now that I know well about the topic, I know what is going on with the kids and respect them. I think it was a great thing that we learned and investigated for ourselves about autism and aspergers disabilities. We now have compassion, respect and empathy for other people. Even if they don´t have any disability we have to give values and respect them.

WHAT I LEARNED WHILE MAKING THE CARDS FOR “THE SYSTEM”?

When I was researching about the PECS system, I liked how they invent it. For the PECS company, they needed to investigate a lot about the disabilities, ways of learning, different ways of understandings and many other things. It is a great way of teaching kids with different disabilities such as autism and aspergers, because they learn to communicate with other people. With this system they can express better themselves, asking for things or showing their feelings. When I invented my own system, I thought about it many times. I thought first about the kids, about how they thing, their ways of communicating, drawing or showing their feelings. With all this information I created a new system combining all of them. My system works with a chalkboard the the kids carry with themselves wherever they go. If they want something they just draw it and they now communicate better.

CONFLICT EVENTS

Solving conflicts is a really difficult thing to do. Christopher managed conflicts in his own way. It can be a choice you make on how to solve it good or bad. This also reflects the way you are and the way you think. People can see you through this type of things. Conflicts come very often in people’s lives.

One problem many people have, is that they make a problem in every thing. For example if someone steals a pen from him or her, he or she makes a really big problem and that is not ok. It comes in different occasions.

In my life, I have conflict events every single day that passes. One day I didn’t have a permission from my mom to go to a party that I really wanted to go. I was going crazy because all my friends were going but me. I started to get really mad at my mom and had a fight with her. Since that occasion, I knew that I had to change my attitude to solve my problems.

4.Personal and unique style

Having a personal and a unique style is really important. The way you act, speak walk, talk or write is the only thing that can identify you. Each person has their own style of each thing. If another person starts acting the way other is, it copying. It’s not right. Acting the way another person is acting or doing something the same way is like if you don’t have a personality.

If nobody had a personality and did the same as everyone it would be a world full of copies. It would be so boring nobody would be smiling or anything. That is why everyone should be the way they like even if people disagree with their way of thinking. Everyone is unique and nobody should come into their lives to criticize them.

-NARRATIVE:

At about 10:00 or 11:00n hours, I went outside my house and I saw Christopher holding the dog. He was going crazy and didn´t know what to say. With what I saw, he murdered the dog. He is guilty. -said Mrs. Shears.

I didn´t kill the dog!! I found him with a garden some kind of fork in the ground with a lot of blood. I went in shock. I did not know what to do. I was really scared. Now I want to find the murderer myself. -Said Christopher.

The police officer that went to the crime scene saw the dog in the boy´s arms holding him with a lot of blood around the dog and the boy. The murder weapon was a garden tool, some king of fork.
