Police have closed down a can-nabis growing site in Partridge Green.

At 12.52pm on Sunday, Febru-ary 22, following information from members of the public, police ex-ecuted a Misuse of Drugs Act war-rant to search a disused warehouse on the Star Road trading estate,

Partridge Green. Inside they found 100 baby cannabis plants and some 250 mature plants.

Later the same day a 41-year old Brighton man was arrested at his home address, on suspicion of cul-tivation of cannabis. He was later released on police bail until May 20, while enquiries continue.

A two tone dress, sold at Roman Originals has seen the entire world divided after a photo of the dress went viral.

The dress, which is exclusively produced by Roman was much dis-cussed as to wether it was blue and black or white and gold.

The dress was confi rmed to be blue and black and varying views were due to diff erences in how the brain perceives colour and lighting condi-tions.

Roman has seen a surge in sales of the £50 dress since the image went

viral.Nicola Ferdinando, store manager

at Roman’s Horsham branch said: “It’s been crazy in here, people were coming in on Saturday queuing up to buy the dress. It’s been great fun and there’s been a real buzz.”

Roman Originals have produced a gold and white dress in the same de-sign for comic relief which was sold in a charity auction.

You can still buy the dress, mod-eled by District Post director, Davey Pearson, at Roman in Swan Walk, Horsham.

It was announced in the news on February 26, 2015, that Lance Cor-poral Joshua Leakey, 27, 1st Bat-talion, The Parachute Regiment, has been awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) for his heroism in Af-ghanistan in 2013.

He received this honour at a cer-emony at Lancaster House, London on Wednesday, February 25.

Josh is the fi rst Old Blue (former Christ’s Hospital pupil 1999 -2006) to receive a VC since the First World War.

Head Master, John Franklin said: “Christ’s Hospital congratulates Josh on receiving the VC, an award

of the highest valour. We are im-mensely proud of his achieve-ment.”

Josh’s former houseparent com-mented: “Josh was a hardworking and lively pupil. I remember think-ing that if I was ever on the battle-fi eld, Josh would be the dependable person I would like by my side.”

After leaving Christ’s Hospital, Josh went on to study Military His-tory at Kent University.

Three Old Blues have won VCs and one won a George Cross, the most recent was Lieutenant Colo-nel Wilfrith Elstob in March 1918 at the age of 29.

Former Christ’s Hospital pupil awarded the Victoria Cross Around 130 people gathered last

Saturday, February 28, to show their concern about possibly los-ing a much cherished open space if a development of 165 houses, a care home and staff accommoda-tion is allowed on the fi elds to the north of Broadbridge Heath.

Horsham District Council’s cur-rent planning policy says that there should be no development north of the established edge of Broadbridge Heath village as this would en-croach on the strategic gap between itself and Warnham.

The Horsham District Planning Framework, which extends plan-ning policy into the future, has not yet been formally approved and so a developer has taken this opportu-nity to argue that the district cannot formally demonstrate a 5 year land supply for new housing.

The developer claims it can ignore planning policy and build north of Broadbridge Heath as long as “any adverse impacts of doing so would signifi cantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefi ts.”

The original application to build was refused by HDC last June but the developer has appealed.

The decision of the planning in-spector at a hearing that has started this week is likely to depend on how lawyers for HDC and the developer can persuade him to interpret plan-

ning law and overturn two of the original objections that were made.

Broadbridge Heath Parish Council will be speaking against the devel-opment.

Parish councillor Jonathan Eng-land, said: “It is hard for Broad-bridge Heath Parish Council to add technical arguments to HDC’s objections that the development would bring harm to the envi-ronment and the listed building, Swan Ken, but this show of sup-port should allow the Parish Coun-cil to demonstrate signifi cant harm felt by local residents if these well

loved, widely used fi elds were lost under buildings and roads.

“The Parish Council will also point out that the infrastructure to be provided to mitigate the 2000 houses in the West of Horsham Development is not yet in place and proven to be eff ective. Indeed, the infrastructure providers, West Sussex County Council, are pres-ently underfunded by £14M. We will argue that further develop-ment in Broadbridge Heath during this period of uncertain infrastruc-ture delivery will signifi cantly harm Broadbridge Heath.”

Horsham District Councilor fi nds a new lease of life through Brit Chiro

I came to Brit Chiro as an emergen-cy with my back locked. I couldn’t move. I’d been having back pain for some time and knew it was get-ting worse when I couldn’t bend to put my socks on in the morning but did not really pay enough attention to the symptoms.

I lead a hectic lifestyle running my own building company, being a District Councillor and Chairman of Horsham District Council. My life now consists of sitting at dif-

ferent desks and computers, jump-ing in and out of cars dashing from one meeting to another. As a young man I was in heavy engineering and abused my back getting into awk-ward positions and too much heavy lifting.

Brit Chiro & Charlene were ex-tremely professional giving me an initial consultation, x-rays to my back and then treatment allowing me to move again and releasing all the pain. All on the fi rst visit.

I had been attending osteopaths and other chiropractors for years but none had ever taken x-rays but pulled me and twisted in all direc-tions.

Since going to Brit Chiro, I now

have full movement again and can nearly touch my toes!

Seeing a vast improvement in my overall wellbeing my wife vis-ited Brit Chiro as she had been com-plaining for many years of pains in her neck shoulders and right arm. Again x-rays revealed that at some stage in her life she had had some trauma to her neck and is now un-dergoing treatment. After just a few treatments the pain has gone and she is slowly getting full movement back in her shoulders and arms.

It is very satisfying to watch busi-nesses like Brit Chiro grow in the Horsham District and Horsham Dis-trict Council are pleased to support and encourage business in Horsham.

A woman sought for questioning over shoplifting in Horsham town centre has been arrested.

The 21-year old local woman was arrested on Sunday, February 22, and, in agreement with the shop, has accepted a process of commu-nity resolution.

Her arrest follows a public ap-peal by Sussex Police for informa-tion on Friday, February 20.

Enquiries to trace two other sus-pects were also made during the appeal, one for a man suspected of theft from WH Smith on four oc-casions in July, November and De-cember last year and February this year. He is described as white and elderly, wearing a black coat with

a white motif on the back shoulder area.

The other was a white man in his late teens with ginger hair, who is suspected of stealing various items from the Co-op in North Parade on four occasions, two in February last year and two in April last year.

PC James Munden stated: "These enquiries are part of Operation Re-tail, an ongoing initiative aimed at reducing and detecting shoplifting in Horsham District. We currently have a new radio scheme in place in Horsham town centre and we would welcome new shop mem-bers. It allows members to com-municate with each other and the police.

"We are also setting up a new website in place which has been put together with the local Community Safety Partnership and which will be live from March 2015. This will allow members of the Shopwatch schemes to see photos of known off enders. If anybody would like any further information on how to join please contact us at the Horsh-am Neighbourhood Policing Team by emailing [email protected].”

Anyone with information re-garding the suspects should email [email protected] or call 101, quoting serial 295 of 20/2, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Award-winning, Horsham-based landscaping business, Living Landscapes, are to sponsor and build two gardens at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

Both gardens will be in the Sum-mer Gardens category of the pres-tigious show, the largest fl ower show in the world, which celebrates its 25th anni-versary this year. The show is set to open on June 30 and runs until July 5.

Approximately 140,000 visitors attend the show each year, covering 34 acres of land and taking 11 months to organise.

Tecwyn Evans, Direc-tor of Living Landscapes, said: “We’re thrilled to be at Hampton Court this year, creating the Living Landscapes Healing Urban Garden (HUG garden) and the Living Land-scapes City Twitchers garden.

“We’re working with two great designers: Rae Wilkinson, from Billingshurst, has designed the Healing Urban Garden, highlight-ing how green space boosts the wellbeing of people living and

working in urban areas; while Ox-fordshire-based Sarah Keyser has designed the City Twitchers Garden, a wildlife-rich, relaxing, city gar-den.

“Sponsoring show gardens is a great way for Living Landscapes to invest in the garden design indus-try, providing an opportunity for

talented designers to gain valuable show experience

at one of the world’s leading fl ower shows.

Equally, it’s reward-ing for us to bring their ideas to frui-tion.”

Last year, Liv-ing Landscapes won

silver gilt awards for the ‘Al Fresco’ gar-

den at the Hampton Court Flower Show and

the ‘WellChild Garden’ at the Chelsea Flower Show. Working to impeccable standards again this year, the business is hoping to add to its medals collection.

The gardens will be built over two weeks prior to the show’s opening. The next few months of planning and preparation will be crucial. For more information, please contact Catherine Goddard, or visit www.livinglandscapesuk.com.

Light at the Edge of the World

You will have seen landscapes that look like photographs, where the artist has attempted to recreate with the pallet what the eye sees. Andy Waite is diff erent – he sees the landscape but transforms it into a very contemporary view that makes his work highly sought after.

Now visitors to Horsham Museum & Art Gallery can see recent examples of his work in Light at the Edge of the World: The Art of Andy Waite. This

stunning exhibition is being sup-ported by Toovey’s Auctioneers and Valuers, who take pride in encourag-ing talent as well as sponsoring more historical cultural works.

The exhibition, will enable the public to see over 20 works by the Arundel-based artist who is making a name for himself throughout the South East and London.

Andy’s paintings contain multiple layers of artistic expression, drawing inspiration from surrounding views.

Visitors will be bowled over by the impact of the oil paintings, not only the colours but also the techniques, as together they create a visual de-light. Though very contemporary in approach, creating abstraction out

of the landscapes, they also echo old masters at their most revolutionary, notably Turner and Constable.

Light at the Edge of the World: The Art of Andy Waite runs from Satur-day, March 7, to April 26, at Horsham District Council’s Horsham Museum & Art Gallery.

The oil paintings are for sale, and thanks to the Own Art Scheme an in-terest free loan up to £2,000 is avail-able to help purchase Andy’s pic-tures that you will want to see again and again.

Horsham Museum & Art Gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. The Museum is also open on Good Friday and Easter Monday, 11am to 4pm. Admission free.

Henfi eld resident, Greta Coleman, 83, joined other carers, patients and MPs from across the political parties in Parliament yesterday, Wednes-day, February 25, for the launch of the British Lung Foundation’s (BLF) idiopathic pulmonary fi brosis (IPF) patient experience report launch.

Greta met with her MP, Nick Her-bert, to discuss the realities of care for those living with the disease, highlighted in this new report. The report draws from fi rst hand expe-riences of patients and carers and makes it clear that there is a lack of consistency between the best prac-tice standards and the realities of care for those living from IPF.

Greta Coleman, who attended the launch on Wednesday, said: “IPF kills so many people every year in the UK and the number has been rising for decades, yet still no one

knows what causes it and still there is no cure.

“I was happy that my MP came along to support those aff ected by IPF and I hope this launch will help us raise awareness about this terri-ble disease.”

Ruth Fleming, IPF Project Man-ager at the British Lung Founda-tion, also stated: “IPF is a devastat-ing lung condition which severely impacts the lives of those aff ected, their families and carers. We need to take huge steps to improve awareness among both the public and policy makers in order to make real inroads in improving patients’ lives.

“The launch of this report is one of many ways the British Lung Foundation has been campaigning to highlight the needs of IPF pa-tients and carers across the UK and help give IPF the prioritisation it deserves.”

Last month, the National In-stitute for Health and Care Excel-lence (NICE) published their qual-ity standards on IPF, designed to improve care, after considering feedback from the BLF submitted on behalf of IPF patients and carers following an online survey.

Sports players from across the district will benefi t from the newly refurbished multi-purpose out-door playing surface at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre, thanks to a £42,000 investment from Horsh-am District Council.

The extensive refurbishment programme has seen the old play-ing surface replaced with a more durable, porous surface that will allow year round play.

The Centre is managed by Places for People Leisure and the newly resurfaced courts can now be hired for tennis, 5-a-side football and netball and are fully fl oodlit for evening use. One off and regular bookings can be arranged by calling the Centre on 01403 211311.

Cllr Jonathan Chowen, Cabinet

Member for Arts, Heritage and Lei-sure, said: "I am pleased that our team at Horsham District Council & Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre were able to move swiftly to rectify this problem as these facilities are well used by the sporting commu-nity. I would also like to thank the many users for their patience while this work was carried out."

Emma McCormick, Centre Man-ager said “We are pleased to wel-come back our regular users to the courts and hope that they enjoy the new playing surface. The courts are a vital playing area for lots of local clubs and are also an integral part of the Centres activity programme providing playing spaces for chil-dren’s holiday activities and 50+ activity days.”

Saturday, February 21, saw the Transition Horsham Seedy Saturday held in the Friends Meeting House for the sixth time.

There was early interest in the seeds available, perhaps encouraged by a bit of sunshine. Many attendees had collected seed from their gardens and allotments so that they could be swapped for others, with some being given away for free. For a donation of 50p, people were also able to pick up any of the seeds they wanted.

This year, the stalls around the seed tables were heavily focused on the local environment. The Mid-Sussex Beekeeping Society in par-ticular impressed, bringing out both their clear and creamed honey for sale and free taste sessions.

A very enthusiastic Wetlands and Wildlife Trust had information and membership packs and two members from Chesworth Farm Friends were around to talk about the farm trails and show pictures. Warnham Nature Reserve also had many photographs of the reserve on display. Horticul-tural societies were similarly well represented, including Southwater with its collection of seeds and jars of honey and Horsham Horticultural Society which worked with Horsham in Bloom to produce a stand.

The Green party were also in at-tendence, making themselves avail-able for discussions and questions, especially on the subject of the anti-fracking movement.

In what proved to be a fun and friendly event, seeds were ultimately somewhat thin on the ground. Or-ganisers hope to encourage Horsham gardeners to save their seed for next year, so be sure to look out for a po-tential Tradition Horsham Autumn workshop in the future.

Horsham’s Seedy Saturday Success

Shoppers in Horsham will get the chance next week to win a brand new car worth £15,000, to celebrate Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambu-lance’s Silver Jubilee.

The red 1.2 Mini One three-door hatchback has been kindly donated by Barretts of Canterbury and boasts tyre pressure monitoring, a That-cham 1 alarm system, ISOFIX child seat system, front foglights, on-board computer and more.

The car will go on show at Swan Walk Shopping Centre from Mon-day, March 2, until Sunday, March 8, when visitors may buy a raffle ticket for the draw.

The charity has helped thousands of people and saved numerous lives after attending more than 25,000 call-outs over the last 25 years.

Katie Eeles, Air Ambulance Head of Promotions, said: “The service we provide today would simply not be possible without the kind support of the public.

“The need for our life-saving ser-vice will never go away, and your support will help to ensure that we can continue helping patients who need us for many years to come.”

The charity is very grateful to Bar-retts of Canterbury, a Kent-based family-run business famous for its motor dealerships based in Canter-bury and Ashford.

Tickets for the WIN A MINI raffle cost £5 each and can be purchased online at www.raffle.me.uk. The draw will take place on December 15, 2015, making it a perfect Christmas present for one lucky winner.

Police warnof telephone fraudstersSussex Police are reminding resi-dents not to be taken in by a cur-rent wave of crime in which phone callers posing as police officers ask for bank and card details.

There has been a recent rise this month across West Sussex in this crime type. The fraudsters call the intended victim claiming to be from the Police. They tell the victim that their card details have been fraudulently used and that they need to act urgently to protect themselves.

Some recent variations in the methods include asking the victim to assist in a police investigation, telling the victim that there is a corrupt member of staff within the bank and asking for help in iden-tifying them or introducing them-selves as police officers and saying that they have detained two men who had in their possession vari-ous cloned credit/debit cards, some in the name of the intended victim.

Considering the almost expo-nential growth in flats and apart-ments within the town centre, I have begun to wonder what the shape of Horsham retail and high street will be in the coming dec-ades.

In previous articles I have noted that the town centre is frankly far more on the edge and to the south-ern side of the town. This has been ideal for those dropping in from the Southwater end and may ex-plain why so many councillors see no problem with Horsham town centre access.

For those who live in the north of town though the centre has become a bit of a trek; especially if you are close to the far end of Holbrook east. It really is easier to get to the County Mall than Swan Walk.

As development spreads out to the North one cannot help but wonder if the economic drag of coffee shops and restaurants will not follow suit and pull towards the truer center of the town. You need only look to the developments around Albion way, Park Terrace East, East Street, and other thor-

oughfares to see how the nature of Horsham town centre had evolved over several decades, and outside of the Carfax as a central meeting point, the towns retail success has tended to follow the footfall and local staffing levels of businesses.

Pulling those staff levels towards the North, encouraging hubs of en-terprise and new office locations leaves a lunchtime vacuum to be filled with staff who are more likely to see a location closer to the office than the Forum or West Street.

Maybe in the next 20 years we will see market stalls on Fitzalan Road and Godwin Way. It is not hard to paint the journey to this devel-opment. First will come the wish to reduce the viability of Crawley Road as a rat run, then further re-development occurs in response to the increasing pedestrianisation of the route.

After that come the cafes and shops in response to cheaper lo-cations and abundant community. If this appears far fetched have a close look at businesses that have moved from East street to occupy industrial units at the end of Craw-ley road. With all the debate we have waged over the surrounding development, or is that surround-ing the over development, of Hor-sham town we may have taken our eye of the ball and locally scored an own goal through this progress.

What is the future of Horsham town centre?

GACC - Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign

Brendon Sewill, GACC chairman said: “For years residents have had to endure the frustration of an answerphone listening to their aircraft noise complaints, even Heathrow Airport have humans answering the noise complaint lines, but now Gatwick have seized upon a new way of logging complaints, they will only record one a day.”

In 2013 Gatwick Airport intro-duced new flight paths. The re-sult was a six-fold increase in the number of number of complaints, up from 2,696 to 16,910 in the lat-est twelve months.

So Gatwick has hit on an ingen-ious solution. If a person com-plains more than once a day only count it as one complaint!

According to Brendon: “The new departure flight paths have been narrowed so that people un-derneath are suffering a constant stream of aircraft overhead. Some of the complaints which are copied to us are heart-rending. People who had chosen to live in a quiet rural location have suddenly found their peace shattered by a con-stant stream of whining aircraft overhead. Some are on the verge of despair. Others are having to contemplate moving house, suf-

fering a loss of many thousands of pounds.

“The constant roar of aircraft starts at 5.00 am and continues until 11.00 pm. Every aircraft that goes over is a source of annoyance. Yet people are to be ‘forbidden’ to complain more than once a day!”

Gatwick say they are introducing the new system because some peo-ple have taken to using an App to automatically record a complaint about each aircraft. Yet the only quoted instance of that happening was at Heathrow. Even if true, the answer should be to publish three sets of figures: the number of peo-ple making complaints (as pub-lished at present); the number on the one-a-day basis; and the total number of complaints.

But in fact the Gatwick excuse won’t wash. In the past year the number of people complaining has also risen six-fold, from 535 to 3,285, showing that the average number of complaints per head has not increased.

A few years ago Gatwick took an elderly lady to court for complain-ing too often, and the case was thrown out. Now they have found an easier solution: don’t reply to people who complain often, and keep the number of complaints se-cret. But as Sewill added: “fiddling the figures will only make people more angry.”

Multiple complaints about new flight paths may not be all counted

Mark Kelly - Horsham

I am both saddened and surprised to hear of the closure of Horsh-am's HMV store. Whenever I have been in there in recent times it has seemed quite busy, and I as-sumed that business was good.

I shall miss going in there and being inspired to buy an album. There was always a good choice, and the staff were friendly, en-thusiastic and knowledgeable. I've had some good musical chats there while being served.

Presumably the store has be-come a victim of online retailers such as Amazon, and also of down-loading. Personally I enjoy going into a store and buying my music

from an actual person. I like that personal interaction. Also I prefer to purchase a physical item, rather

than a download. So, I say a sad and fond farewell

HMV. It's been fun.

A sad goodbye to HMV

If you’re in need of marketing in-spiration I am running 2 master-classes at this year’s Horsham Mi-crobiz on Saturday, March 14.

If you haven’t attended this event before, it is a must have if you’re starting a business or looking for inspiration for your existing busi-ness. At Microbiz you can network, attend all of the seminars on off er and talk to potential new supplies for free. You only have to stump up for your refreshments.

If you do come to Microbiz this year, and are looking for some mar-keting inspiration, you may be in-terested in booking a place on one

of my marketing masterclasses. I am running two 35 minute market-ing masterclasses: at the fi rst ‘How to become the go to expert in your sector’ you will discover step by step how you can generate more sales for your business by becoming The Sought After; not The Seeker. I will take you through the 8 step process I have used myself and that I share with my clients. It’s a must attend talk if you want to stand out from the crowd and be a genuine expert, paid handsomely for your eff orts. This masterclass starts at 10:50. At my second masterclass ‘You’re 7 steps away from powerful PR on a zero budget’ you can learn the inside secrets on how to use PR – social media, twitter, print publi-cations, blogging and more to make more sales. PR is changing and you need to be aware of all the free

things you can do to create a noise and buzz about your business. This masterclass starts at 1:40. My sem-inars are usually very well attended and fi ll up quite quickly so please book your place beforehand to avoid being disappointed. At Microbiz you can buy any of my books for just £10 each – a signifi cant saving on the Amazon price. I will be signing cop-ies of The Ultimate Small Business Marketing Book, The 15 Essential Marketing Masterclasses For Your Small Business and my latest book; The Ultimate Guide to Writing and Marketing a Bestselling Book – on a Shoestring Budget. Hop onto Ama-zon and read the reviews.

If you’re planning on visiting Mi-crobiz this year, here are 4 tips to help you gain the maximum benefi t from attending.

1. Allow at least a couple of hours

so you can browse the exhibitors engage in a spot of networking and attend one or more of the free seminars. In all likelihood you will be there for several hours. It really is that enjoyable.

2. If you are looking for new sup-pliers, make sure that you spend time with the exhibitors that fl oat your boat. Ask each one to expand on the benefi ts they can off er you, the customers they attract and whether they have any special Mi-crobiz off ers. (If you don’t ask you won’t get!)

3. Take a pad and pen to any sem-inars you attend. You don’t want to miss out on some great advice and, whilst you’re at it write down your burning questions beforehand. If you are not able to ask them at the seminar try and catch up with the speaker afterwards. I often end up

having coff ee and a chat with sev-eral members of the audience.

4. Don't pitch your services to the exhibitors. There's a time and a place and trying to sell to a busi-ness that has paid to exhibit is un-likely to go down well. Much better instead to ask if you can arrange to catch up after the event.

If you are planning on coming to Microbiz this year do come and say hello to me won't you especially if you’re a reader of my monthly Dis-trict Post column. The doors open at 10 AM and close at 4 PM and the venue remains unchanged - the Drill Hall, Denne Road. The date: Saturday 14th March. Entry is free.

If you want to book on one of my seminars or any of the others go to www.horshammicrobiz.co.uk but do not delay. Places fi ll fast. I hope to you there!

A Dark Reflection warns viewers of the dangers of aerotoxic syndrome

investigating an in-flight safety in-cident which has not been released to the public. As they begin to dig deeper a pattern of denial emerges and they discover they are not the first to ask difficult questions.

They discover the industry has an engine design problem resulting in toxic air in the cabins, and they dis-cover the darker side of the aviation industry.

The film also stars, Paul Antony-Barber, Stephen Tomkinson, Mark Dymond and Marina Sirtis.

Director, Tristan Loraine ex-plained to The District Post how the air you breathe onboard all but one currently flying commercial pas-senger jet aircraft is provided from the compression section of the en-gine in a process known as ‘bleed air’.

This air is contaminated with py-rolised synthetic jet engine oil com-bustion products as a feature of the system design.

The bleed air is cooled by air con-ditioning but it is not filtered before entering the cabin, and this air is used on almost every pressurized aircraft you fly on.

Contaminated air exposure is under-reported and Tristan aims to bring this issue to the public and media light.

Tristan said: “I’ve flown hun-dreds of people on airplanes and I’ve watched them walk off planes after breathing in the air and I couldn’t tell any of them.

“I think it’s a breach of peoples’ human rights. If they know the dangers, then they can make an in-formed decision to fly, the aviation industry has to fix this problem.”

Plans to make A Dark Reflection began with a meeting in December 2012, and principal photography began in June 2013. Filming primar-ily took place in West Sussex in and around Horsham with scenes also being shot in Jordan.

Horsham residents will see many very familiar locations including South Lodge Hotel and Horsham town centre.

The film made use of a co-opera-tive film-making model making use of a variety of businesses, services and individuals as well as financial investment to complete the film.

Tristan added: “We could never have made the film without the help of local businesses including Sussex Lighting, who provided the lighting for the premiere, and South Lodge Hotel, who could not have been more accommodating.”

The next production from Fact Not Fiction films will be a docu-mentary called ‘Aerotoxic’ which will be released in 2016.

Tristan said: “The message I re-ally want to get across is, would you not want to pay an extra 50p on your ticket to breath clean air? If you would you must tell the airlines about it. We are trying to make air travel safer and the local commu-nity is too by supporting the film.”

Another screening of the film is to take place at The Capitol at the end of April followed by a Q&A with director, Tristan Loraine.

To book tickets visit www.the-capitolhorsham.com or call 01403 750220 for further information. You can also visit www.adarkreflection.com for more information on the film.

Bungalow in popular residential development

Starting the new year in a new home is a dream come true for Adrian Gage and his fiancee, Ju-dith Mitchell, who moved to Mar-ringdean Acres in Billingshurst at the end of their whirlwind 2014.

Adrian said: “We had been look-ing for a fam-ily home in this part of West Sus-sex and just a week af-ter set-ting eyes on Mar-ringdean A c r e s , we’d re-served our three bed-room house.

“Within an-other eight weeks we’d sold our property to a cash buyer, had a great holiday touring Italy where I proposed to Jude and we’re getting married this September in Midhurst - it was a crazy time!”

Adrian, a London firefighter, and

Jude, an occupational therapist working in Chichester, decided on a new home after having looked at the costs involved with redecorat-ing and upgrading existing prop-

erties and they also wanted the benefits of joining

a new community.Adrian added: “We love the

village and have tried some of the res-t a ur a n t s but we can also hop on the train to Hor-

sham, as home is

only a few minutes’ walk

from Billing-shurst station.”

Jude said: “As we were new to the area we

were keen on finding somewhere with a good community spirit and lots of young couples had already purchased homes here. Mar-ringdean Acres was by far the most professional looking, homely and

pretty development.”Having seen the outside of the

house under construction, Adrian put down a deposit before Jude had seen the inside!

“She fell in love with the outside look of the house and had seen the high standard of finish in the show home but was at work on the day when we could first see inside. We agreed to reserve it anyway - fortu-nately, Jude loves the house inside and out!”

Adrian’s oak furniture fits per-fectly into their new home which is finished with oak doors, which provide a warm, natural finish to the home, a feature almost every visitor comments on.

Properties at Marringdean Acres, a development of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bed-room houses from FABRICA at A2Dominion, have proved very popular and Adrian and Jude are al-ready welcoming more new neigh-bours.

Prices for a stylish four bedroom semi-detached home start from £375,995. For further informa-tion, contact the Sales & Marketing suite at Marringdean Acres which is open from 10am to 5pm daily on 01403 784875 or visit www.henry-adams.co.uk. Sat Nav RH14 9HD.

Vet before you let – what to look for when choosing a letting agent

It seems that every week there is an-other story of a letting agent failing its clients in some way, be it as a re-sult of malpractice, fi nancial negli-gence or incompetence.

Giraff e Residential, in New Mal-den, Surrey (an area widely covered by Leaders) is the latest agent to have let its clients down, after closing without warning at the end of last year. The company ceased trading due to “large fi nancial diffi culties” and had no funds or assets to make payments to clients who were owed money, includ-ing tenants’ deposits.

Trading standards and police are currently investigating the company. In the meantime, other local agents including Leaders have been assisting landlords and tenants as much as pos-sible with their tenancies.

Leaders’ Horsham senior branch manager, Kathy Taylor, said: “Over the 30 years Leaders has been in the lettings industry we have seen far too many cases like this. I’m aware that in Kingston, Surrey there have been four such cases in the last 5 years, where agents have closed suddenly without returning thousands of pounds worth of tenants’ deposits. Ultimately it is the landlord who is legally liable to re-

turn their tenant’s deposit at the end of the tenancy, even if their agent has lost or misappropriated the money.

“With letting agents not formally regulated by the government, it is up to the public to look into the compe-tency and trustworthiness of their agent before renting or letting with them. But there are so many diff er-ent bodies and organisations govern-ing standards in the industry that it’s no wonder most people are completely bewildered by it all.

“A common problem in the industry is small agents rapidly building their portfolios and business on the basis of cheap deals, which means they are simply not able to sustain a good service to all their clients for the long-term. Eventually something has to give, more often than not it is the service levels, or the business itself, that fall down, leaving behind a trail of badly let down land-lords and tenants.

“To keep it simple, our ad-vice is to look at the following important factors when vet-ting your agent:”

1) How long has the agent been established and do they have a good local reputa-tion?

2) Does the agent have professional, knowledgeable staff and well-presented offi ce and literature?

3) Does the fi rm have enough ex-perienced staff to provide a good qual-ity service to all its clients through all stages of the lettings and manage-ment process?

4) Is the agent willing to put you in touch with existing clients for an endorsement, preferably clients who have used the company for a long time?

5) Does the agent have systems in place to ensure it complies with the law at all times?

6 ) Is the agent a member of any self-regulating

organisations such as ARLA, TPO and

SAFEagent?For advice

Fifteen Horsham gymnasts in national finals

Horsham gymnasts dominated the regional finals

Saturday February 28 - South League Premier Div 2

West Hampstead 3 - 4 Hor-sham Men’s 1st XI

Despite missing five key players, including top scorer Matt Hough who is out with a broken thumb,

Horsham led at the break, but after going behind grabbed two last gasp goals to bring home the much needed points.

John Burroughs opened the scor-ing from a Jack Dean pass and then enabled Freddie Campbell to com-plete a dazzling 60 yard run into the D to reverse stick Horsham to 2-1 up at half time. Hampstead then scored twice, leaving Hor-sham trailing, but with five min-utes remaining and only ten men on the field player coach Dominick Male converted a Joe Humphreys inspired short corner to equalise.

With 30 seconds on the clock, fol-lowing a Humphreys and Camp-bell build up John Burroughs took a free hit from the five metre line, rounded two opponents and hit a reverse into the bottom right to win the game, the umpire imme-diately signalling full time.

John Burroughs told the Dis-trict Post: “The result shows our strength in depth – our replace-ments were fantastic, especially Andy MacIlwraith and Rob Turn-bull. In the pre match huddle we spoke about everyone putting in 100% and the boys really did that for the full 70 minutes.

“It was a great feeling to hit the winning goal and now we’re aiming to carry that momentum forward to our important last few games, when we’ll hopefully get some players back from injury.”

Tomorrow (Saturday 7) third in the table Horsham - 39 points, with a game in hand and still firmly on the promotion trail - re-turn to Broadbridge Heath to take on tenth placed Barnes, whom they beat in November’s away match. Barnes have just two wins and 15 defeats this campaign, in-cluding losing 3-0 last week. Hen-ley remain top on 50 points with Banbury second on 45, those two teams clash tomorrow at Henley when Horsham will be eagerly awaiting news of the result.

Horsham went a goal down after three minutes and suffered an-other half way through the first half, yet when former Wimbledon player Fran Crossley then scored against her old team thoughts of a close encounter were entertained. But, it was a false dawn.

Wimbledon’s Sophie Bowker sub-sequently struck two killer blows in as many minutes to give the hosts a 4-1 cushion at the break. Two second half goals confirmed Wimbledon’s

dominance, quickly putting the re-sult beyond any shadow of doubt. With three games to play Horsham remain bottom with ten points – Bedford (9th) have 12 and Ipswich (8th) are on 14. In urgent need of a win to provide a chance of avoiding relegation the ladies have another tough fixture tomorrow (Saturday 7) when third placed Harleston Mag-pies from Norfolk visit Broadbridge Heath. Harleston beat Horsham 3-0 in October’s away game and defeat-ed Bedford 5-1 last Saturday.

Meanwhile, East Grinstead, un-beaten with 12 wins from 15 games, top the table with 39 points, nine ahead of current runners up Sev-enoaks. Grinstead have scored 46 goals and let in only 11, both statis-tics far superior to any other con-tender.

The Eastbourne Half Marathon is the second in the Sussex Grand Prix series. The course takes the runners up a hill almost as high as Beachy Head at about mile 3 and over vari-ous bridges around Sovereign Har-bour between miles 10 and 11.

Eight Horsham Joggers completed this year’s race, Steve Nicholls com-ing 19th overall out of 1354 finish-ers in a time of 1:24:23, followed by Carol-Anne Davies-Jones 1:40:40, Alan Pettitt 1:46:15, Paul Yokom

1:47:32, Janine Littler 1:49:07, Char-ley Crocker 2:22:39, Paul Chandler 2:47:15, Amanda Avery 2:47:15.

Horsham Joggers were also in attendance at the 34th Bath Half Marathon, with eight runners from the club completing the fast and flat two-lap course.

Alison Gormley was the first Horsham Jogger home in a time of 1:36:50, followed by Michael Thorn-ton 1:44:42, Emma Catlow 1:49:21, Liz Farrell 2:00:30, Marion Luff 2:06:09, Elisabeth Scott 2:09:33, Colleen Conti 2:16:35, Caroline Bransden 2:18:07.

Race ace Sam Osborne to ride for MSG RacingMotorcyclingElayne Nunan – Motorsports Reporter

The pace is hotting up for rising motorcycle race star Sam Osborne as he prepares for the 2015 season with exciting changes in place.

A stunning first season saw Sam’s talent spotted by top race-tune team MSG Racing and this year he’ll be riding their Suzuki GSX-R 600 in Thundersport GB.

Sam, 23, from Billingshurst, made his debut at Brands Hatch last year in Hottrax Motorsport Champion-ship and quickly carved out a repu-tation as a consistent place taker and talented, determined competitor.

Up against experienced riders, at the end of the season accrued points saw him ranked level 1st with his closest rival and with final positions decided on most wins, he came 2nd

in his class (Modern Classic Pre-In-jection 600).

Now the ambitious move up to a faster class (Pre-National Sport 600) and also to a bigger club will put Sam’s track skills and daring to the test, with the potential to take him further than he dared dream last year as a rookie.

Thundersport is just one step down from British Superbike Cham-pionship (BSB) and he’ll be riding with some very experienced riders including BSB Super Stock ace King-sley Ruddy.

“I snapped up the chance,” says Sam, a carpenter. “It’s what I’d al-ways wanted – to be on a modern bike with no expense spared. It’s a big change riding a bike 15 years newer than my old R6, which was held together with gaffer tape and cable ties.

“I’ve tested it twice now at a damp Brands Hatch and a frosty Cadwell Park, so I’m still getting used to it, with all its advanced technology, also running a race shift gearbox for the first time. I’m still working out how late I can break and how much power I can put down without high-siding.

“MSG have put their faith in me and I’ll be riding their bike with their support track side – all I need now is financial backing to get through the 2015 season, as each weekend costs around £1,000 for track fees, tyres and petrol.”

Thundersport’s nine-race calen-dar starts at Brands Hatch Indy this weekend [March 6-7].

Horsham Hawks U12 54 – 45 Brighton Cougars U12

BasketballDave Smith - Sports Editor

This match saw last season’s league champions up against last season’s cup winners and after a tight and competitive match it was Horsham Hawks who came out on top, in doing so extending their current winning run to six matches.

The match started slowly with the big Cougars team leaving Hawks Josh Tavolieri and Harry Rose to battle for rebounds; Hor-sham however held a narrow two point lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second period Hawks took a hold on the game by going on a 16-7 run including six quick points from Charlotte Wilcox and four from Miguel Venturini to ex-

tend the lead to fourteen. Brighton however fought back to score three unanswered baskets of their own and to close the half time score to give Horsham a 30-22 lead.

Despite high energy play from Amy Wilcox and Jamie Coulson Horsham’s defensive woes contin-ued in the third quarter as the Cou-gars moved the ball quickly and ex-ecuted well to go on their own 14-6 run setting up an exciting finale.

The Hawks however dug deep and responded superbly to go on a 10-5 run early in the fourth quarter with Josh Lea-Clayton and Antonio Lozzi setting up team mates and running down the clock to seal the victory.

Next up for the U12 Hawks is an away fixture against the Crawley Cagers.

Scorers: Josh Tavolieri – 16, Charlotte Wilcox – 14, Josh Lea-Clayton – 10, Antonio Lozzi – 4, Miguel Venturini- 4, Harry Rose – 4, Jamie Coulson – 2, Amy Wilcox.

Unbeaten run ends at home to ArundelSaturday February 28 - Sussex County League Div 1

Horsham YMCA 2 – 3 Arundel

FootballTom Norris- Football Reporter

Horsham YMCA’s three game un-beaten run came to a disappoint-ing end as they were beaten 3-2 at home to Arundel in Division 1 ac-tion at Gorings Mead on Saturday.

After impressive victories over Crawley Down Gatwick and Selsey, and then a battling three points away at title chasing Eastbourne Town on Tuesday evening, Peter Buckland’s side looked to have regained their form in time for the season run in.

But their recent good work was undone against a hard working Mul-lets outfit at the weekend, who came from behind to win and avenge the 6-1 defeat suffered in the reverse fixture in August.

New recruit Sam Schaaf netted for the second time in as many games to put the hosts ahead after just eight minutes, but the visitors turned the game around before the break thanks to goals from Brad Jordan and Adam Bibb.

Anthony Hibbert made it 2-2 with seventeen minutes left to play, but just sixty seconds after the hosts’ leveller, Arundel’s Scott Tipper headed his side back in front and they held on for a victory.

YM manager Buckland comment-ed: “I am very disappointed. I think it just about sums up where we’re at as a team this season. It was very typi-cal of the YM we are at the moment, and that’s inconsistent. You just wouldn’t recognise the same play-ers after Tuesday night’s [3-2 victory over Eastbourne Town] performance You just wouldn’t think it was the same group out there. I may be a bit at fault in the first half because we went 4-3-3 and I thought that we’d really take the game to them.”

Goalscorers – YM; Schaaf (8) Hib-bert (73) Arundel: Jordan (22) Bibb (38) Tipper (74)

YM Team: Fox, Carden, Crane (O’Carroll 86), Doherty, Evans, Hib-bert, Dugdale, Gedling, T. Smith (D. Sullivan 66), N. Sullivan, Schaaf (J. Brown 62).

Hornets long Kent trip ends in heavy defeat

Tom Vickers gets stuck in the Kent mudMcCreadie almost gets to Nwachukwu’s cross

Saturday February 28 – Ry-man League Division 1 SouthFolkestone Invicta 5 – 0 Horsham

FootballDave Smith - Sports Editor

This was always going to be a dif-ficult match, the Hornets never have much luck on the Kent coast and Folkestone Invicta are right up there in the league chasing promo-tion, however it ended in another heavy and damaging defeat for the Hornets who have now let in nine goals in their past two matches.

To make matters worse fellow promotion strugglers East Grinstead and Ramsgate picked up good wins and Redhill came away with a draw from Tooting and Mitcham leaving the Hornets six points adrift of safe-ty with an inferior goal difference.

Manager Anthony Storey admit-ted that he needs to settle on his best eleven after using twenty seven different players since he and Cliff Cant took up the reigns in January. However Williams reclaimed his place in goal and the return from in-jury of Hamilton and Gilbert as well as manager Storey giving himself a start meant that again the play-

ers were shuffled to come up with a starting eleven.

The match was played mostly in torrential rain and on a pitch that consisted of thick mud but it was bad luck and not the conditions that led to the opening goal after a quarter of an hour.

Storey was somewhat harshly ad-judged to have handled in the area and even though Williams saved brilliantly from the spot Invicta striker Draycott was able to put in the loose ball. Nine minutes later it was 2-0, again Williams pulled of a great save only to see the rebound put in by a Folkestone player, this

time it was Jordan Wright who re-acted quickest to find the net. The match was all over just over the half hour mark when Ashley Miller net-ted to give his side a comfortable 3-0 lead that they took in at the break.

The second half was much the same as the first and Horsham can consider that they were fortunate the score line was not more em-phatic than it was. Lively Folkestone striker Draycott added another two in the sixty fifth and eightieth min-utes to complete his hat-trick before he missed a penalty in the final min-ute to leave the score at five and the Hornets with a long miserable jour-

ney back home.Tomorrow, Saturday 7, the Hor-

nets make the same journey to play Folkestone’s very near neighbours Hythe Town. If any chance of Ry-man League survival for Horsham is to remain the same journey cannot lead to the same outcome.

Goal scorers – Folkestone: Dray-cott (15, 65, 80) Wright (24) Miller (31)

Horsham Team: Williams, Ober-steller, Hamilton, Gilbert, Byrne, Storey, Vickers, Branford, Mc-Creadie, Nwachukwu, Camara. Subs: Lockyer, De Andrade, Hughes, Welch, Izokun.

Ever improving Heath notch another winSaturday February 28 - Sussex County League Div 1Eastbourne Town 1 - 2 Broadbridge Heath

FootballDave Smith - Sports Editor

This was the fourth time the sides have met this season with East-bourne Town winning the previous three so the expectations of a win were not too high.

However this has been a season where Heath have exceeded all ex-pectations and they now sit in ninth spot in the table when the target before a ball was kicked this season was to survive in this first year in di-vision 1.

Heath’s performances at this higher level are made all the more remarkable given that Heath’s line-up for this match included eight players who came through their Youth Section, six of them start-ing at Under 7 and playing their way through the ranks.

The match was played in atrocious conditions that produced an even contest settled by goals from Jake Holmes and Ollie Moore before Town pulled one back late in added time.

Both sides started brightly on the sticky playing surface. The hosts Joe Dryer shot wide from distance and George Robinson had an effort

comfortably saved by Heath keeper Michael Chester. For Heath, Ollie Moore had a shot from distance just past the post and Tiago Andrade had a good effort blocked.

The breakthrough came midway through the half when following a huge kick from keeper Chester Jake Holmes chased after the ball and as the Eastbourne keeper Greg Nessling came off his line Holmes chipped the ball over his head into the net.

The teams continued to trade ef-forts on goal but Heath took the one goal lead in at the break.

Eastbourne started the second half strongly with the wind and rain behind them but Heath were solid at the back and keeper Chester, aided by his defence, kept Town at bay.

With minutes remaining Heath sealed the win when Sultan broke away, picked out Andrade who played the ball into the path of Moore who rounded Nessling to run the ball into the goal. Deep into in-jury time Town’s Dominic Clarke scored from a corner but it was too little too late to prevent Heath from winning their twelfth league match of the season.

Heath Team: M Chester, Alfi-eri (Sebuliba 46), Bevan, S Chester, Flack, Waddingham, Moore, McDer-mott, Holmes (Robinson 46), An-drade, Sultan (Mobsby 85).

Bears narrowly lose out to DorkingTuesday March 3 - Sussex County League Div 1Broadbridge Heath 0 - 1 Dorking Wanderers

Due to injury and unavailabil-ity Heath manager Steve Paint-er was forced to make several changes from the side that won at Eastbourne Town last Saturday, Brendan Sebuliba made a wel-come return to the club at right fullback, Harry Balfour took over as centre-half and Danny Mobsby made a return from injury for his first start since October.

In a match that the quality of the play was limited due to the state of the surface there was not much to

excite the crowd. High flying Dorking has the divi-

sions leading scorer in Tom Tolfrey and he and fellow front man Char-lie Pitcher both looked lively. The Bears defence remained solid how-ever and when an attempt was on target Heath keeper Michael Ches-ter was equal to it.

If anything the standard of play dropped further in the second half due to the ever deteriorating pitch and the numerous disruptions to play for minor infringements awarded by the referee.

When the Dorking winner came in the eighty second minute it was a disappointment for the Heath defence given how well they had played throughout.

A Dorking free kick to the far post found unmarked substitute Liam

Hunter, who placed a header past Chester to give his team the lead. Despite a response from Heath that saw Tiago Andrade execute a per-fectly timed overhead kick which Campbell saved brilliantly given the quality of the shot, Dorking held on to the single goal lead that now makes them three points clear at the top of the table.

After the game Painter said “On the balance of play Dorking de-served the points but I’m very dis-appointed at the way we defended the free kick, their player should not have been allowed a free head-er”.

Team: M Chester, Sebuliba (Legrange 70), Bevan (Robinson 30), Balfour, Flack, Mobsby, Moore (Greig 55), McDermott, Holmes, Andrade, Sultan.

Promoted Green and Whites aim to be championsSaturday February 28 – London 3 South East

Horsham 1st XV 10 – 0 Folkestone

RugbyRichard Ordidge - HRUFC

Horsham secured promotion back to London 2 South East with a hard fought win at home to Folkestone having last played at this level in 1998-99. Following Dartfordians loss to Heathfield & Waldron, Hor-sham now require two wins from their final four games to secure the league title.

For the second week running Horsham prevented one of the best sides in the league from scoring a point in a disciplined performance, and have now conceded just one try in their last four games. With eleven positional changes to the starting line-up due to a mixture of selec-tion preferences, injury and illness Horsham showed the strength and versatility of their first team squad.

Horsham started strongly with Arun Thompson and scrum-half Josh Mills both threatening but Folkestone gradually came back into the game and had a couple of pen-alties awarded when Horsham were penalised for holding on however

both kicks were off target. The game reached half time with the score at 0-0, and Horsham having nothing to show for their superior play.

It looked to the home support as if Horsham might rue the failure to take the chances in the first half because Folkestone started the sec-ond period looking more purpose-ful. Horsham brought on fresh legs from the bench, including captain Paul Talbot, to snuff out any revival from the visitors, and eventually on 55 minutes the Folkestone scrum was penalised and Bell was success-ful with his penalty strike at goal. Horsham’s scrum was now in the ascendancy and the balance of play was now firmly with Horsham. Tu-hakaraina made a powerful break through several tackles without really finding any open space but the succession of penalties being conceded finally took their toll on Folkestone as the referee reached for his cards and outside centre Ollie Walton was sin-binned for not re-leasing a tackled player. Bell had an-other penalty attempt at goal which rebounded back off the crossbar but as Horsham continued to press the mood was soured when Tuhakaraina suffered a bad injury and was later revealed to have broken his fibula.

Johnny Ordidge then made a break and went through several attempted

tackles to win a penalty, and Adam Fullerton for Folkestone was yel-low carded taking them down to thirteen players. Bell then kicked for the corner to create an attacking position and on 74 minutes man of the match Whiting picked up from a dominant five metre scrum to score which was converted by Bell to seal the win.

Horsham coach Nick Stocker was happy with the result but not overly happy with the performance: “We had the better physicality and played more of the rugby but our performance impeded a bigger score line. We played in their half for most of the time but didn’t string enough phases together, got iso-lated, kicked down their throats and gave away the ball too easily. We have been playing with a degree of tension over the last few weeks and I am hoping that this will be released with promotion now secured and we can now put in some performances which will put sides to the sword.”

Horsham’s next game is away to Gillingham Anchorians tomorrow (Saturday 7).

HorshamTeam: James Whiting, Gibbs, Ordidge, Tuhakaraina, Nwa-chukwu; Bell, Mills (Rush 60); Brady (Talbot 48), Fisher, Barber; Green (Goward 53), Jonny Whiting; Price, Thompson, Tredgett (capt) Horsham clinched promotion in awful weather conditions

Second half errors sink BoroSaturday February 28 - London 3 South East LeaguePulborough 6 - 22 Old Dunstonians

RugbyMartin Read – Sports Reporter

In squally conditions rendering the pitch slippery and ball handling challenging Pulborough led by six points at the break, courtesy of pen-alties by Simon Burfiend and Tom Hoey. But, with the wind behind them the visitors ran away with the second half.

A converted try – Old D’s gaining the line from the side of a maul, fol-lowed a penalty, putting Boro four points adrift. Then a bursting run over the line from a visitor’s sub, avoiding three tackles en route, in-creased their advantage to 11 points following the successful kick, before an unconverted try closed out the game at 6-22.

Boro skipper Seth Wise said: “We played well in the first half but didn’t put the points on the board when we needed to. We looked good for a los-ing bonus point but that didn’t mate-rialise when we fell off our tackles.”

Now ninth on 29 points – eight ahead of Park House and seemingly uncatchable by Hastings & Bexhill on 11 and Lewes with six, Boro still need a win, three teams facing relegation. Tomorrow (Saturday 7) they visit Uckfield (seventh), looking to do the double after despatching them 22-8 at home in November. Then Boro’s last three games will be against Hast-ings & Bexhill (at home), followed by away matches against second placed Dartfordians and Park House. Earlier in the season Boro beat both Hastings and Park House but lost comprehen-sively to Dartfordians.

Folkestone helps seal Horsham’s fate

The Kent coastal town of Folke-stone had a big impact on the sporting hopes of Horsham’s foot-ball and rugby teams last weekend.

Horsham Football Club, who sit bottom of their league table, made the trip down to Folkestone FC last Saturday and lost 5-0. The result leaves them effectively seven points adrift of safety given their inferior goal difference and relegation to the Sussex County League, where they

would play their landlords Horsham YMCA, is looking a distinct possibil-ity.

Meanwhile Horsham Rugby Club played hosts to Folkestone RUFC last Saturday and won the match 10-0 securing promotion with four matches remaining and leaving them favourites to be crowned as league champions at the end of the season. Horsham’s Rugby 1st XV will now play in the London 2 South East league, a level they have not been at since the 1998-99 season.

Horsham FC go back into Kent this weekend to play Hythe Town who are situated a few miles down the coast from last week’s opponents Folke-stone, while Horsham RUFC have a

shorter distance into Kent to travel as they visit the Medway town of Gillingham.

Although both teams are taking a similar course in their travels of late they are taking a very different course in their fortunes this season.

Yasmin Hooker produced a great perfor-mance in the Open 200 backstroke finishing runner up despite a couple of weeks of illness.

The 12 years girls were dominant with all-rounder Rebecca Barber who claimed six gold medals and

Ethel Whyman and Ellie Smith won another ten medals between them.

The junior boys also made a strong showing with Hamish Milne-Skillman and James Hartley in the 200 Breaststroke winning golds and multiple silvers from them and team-mates Dan Jones and Sam Hawkins. Lauren Pedal took gold’s in the 15 years 50 & 100 breaststroke with club mate Anya Elvin taking
