ThemoveoftheentireDepartmentafterthesummerof1997wasanexcitingbut

WhilsttheDepartmenthadremainedanenclavewithinUppsalaUniversity,intense
academicinteractionsbeganimmediatelyatKI.Duringthemonthlymeetingsbetween
theKIleadershipandallDepartmentPrefects,about25atthetime,HansWigzell

Agroupofoutstandingseniorscholars,allwithastrongclinicalbackground,joinedthe

throughR01’satNIH’sNationalCancerInstitute.Finally,thestructureofMEBwas
intendedtofosteranethosofintegration,solidarityandintensecollaborations.
Unfortunately,thepliabilityandboldnessdescribedaboveisbecominglessandless

BecauseexpansionoftheDepartmentcontinued,itbecameapparentthatourneeds
