Here are some of the words of wisdom you will find if you go to Crown.org and read the article, “Ask Chuck: Filling a Void with Material Things.” Guard Your Heart. We must intentionally guard our hearts through self-control. Here are a few ways:

Check your friends. Do they cause you to want? Fast from social media. Adopt a “capsule” wardrobe. Recognize your fear of missing out (FOMO). Understand that children benefit from fewer toys. Figure how many hours you must work to afford the item. If you have a true need, can you find it used or borrow it? If you think you will need it in the future, can you trust God to provide it then? Deposit the money you want to spend into a savings account.

If this whets your appetite, you will learn a lot more during the next Crown class! Join us in room 7AB during the Sunday School hour, 9:15 a.m. -10:15 p.m., Sundays in October and November 4 and 11. Please sign up in Fellowship Hall after worship on September 9 or 16. Blessings, Your David Chapel Financial Ministry

Beverly Sonnier, content editor for LifeWay’s YOU curriculum line,

isn’t a stranger to doing new things. Six years ago, she became

content editor of YOU—a LifeWay Bible study curriculum that

seeks to meet the unique needs of young adults in urban and

multicultural settings. She also launched an annual writers

development conference for YOU writers of color.

Last month, Sonnier was making history again—this time by becoming the first female to win

the Black SBC Denominational Servants Network “Hall of Fame Servanthood Award.” “I’m

honored and humbled to be the recipient of the award, and even more so to be the first

female recipient,” Sonnier says. “I’m blessed to work and collaborate with gifted fellow

employees across divisional lines.” Sonnier implemented the YOU Writers Conference to

help train and equip current and aspiring Christian writers of color with skills, strategies, and

models for publishing. “I enjoy the enthusiasm of each participant

and their desire to enhance their individual writing skills,” Sonnier says.

“To date, almost 50 writers have been added [through the

conference] to the LifeWay writer pool. That’s exciting!”

Ken Braddy, manager of adult ongoing Bible studies, shared news of

Sonnier’s award in an email to employees who work on LifeWay

ongoing curriculum lines. “Beverly is a strong advocate for everyone’s

product lines,” Braddy said. “She’s a sought-after conference leader

and has a growing reputation as a church educator. We’re blessed

to have her.”

YOU curriculum will celebrate its 10-year anniversary this fall. “I

believe God is using YOU to reach, teach, and equip people in urban

and multicultural environments and beyond to impact His kingdom,”

Sonnier says. “It continues to assist churches of varying size throughout the country in their

mission of making disciples.”

WOMEN’S ENRICHMENT MINISTRY aka D.I.V.A.S. – Divinely Inspired Virtuous Anointed Sisters

Twenty-eight D.I.V.A.S of David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church participated with approximately 3,000 other women in the Desperate for Jesus Conference at the Oak Cliff Fellowship Church in Dallas, Texas. The day was filled with prayer, phenomenal speakers, powerful praise and worship, including fun and fellowship with women from all walks of life. We were encouraged to anchor our souls in the Lord, even while riding through a storm. As the conference got underway, participants were ushered into the sanctuary, which quickly filled with lots of chatter and enthusiasm. We were greeted from the stage with numerous prayer warriors who offered up strong, fervent prayers that resonated love and passion for God’s people. Chrystal Evans Hurst led the audience into a powerful praise and worship service. Chrystal is the author of She’s Still There and co-author of the best-selling book, Kingdom Women, with her father Dr. Tony Evans. The women of David Chapel are currently studying this book in their small group Bible Study that meets on Tuesdays. As the Spirit continued to sweep the sanctuary, the Praise Dancers opened with an awe-inspiring praise dance to the Lord. The young ladies performed in unison with poise and dignity, while the young men left the audience mesmerized with their captivating, acrobatic moves. Anita Carmen brought life to her personal journey of incredible challenges while inspiring women all over the building to confront their own challenges with faith and strength in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Anita is author and the Founder and President of Inspire Women.

Anchored, cont. from page 8

Inspire Women is a ministry that inspires women to connect with God’s purpose and invests in women for service through scholarships, ministry grants and leadership training. Her latest book, Rising Above the Storm, is encouraging and provides practical insights for anyone who wants to rise above any storm. Evangelist and Gospel Vocalist Beverly Crawford set the sanctuary on fire as she indulged and inspired the audience with her earth-shaking new single, “Mine is On the Way”. Beverly is not only known for her musical accomplishments, but also for her appearance in numerous productions, including Bishop T.D. Jake’s play, Woman, Thou Art Loosed. She is a licensed, ordained evangelist, ministering to God’s people worldwide. Eleanor Webb mounted the stage and created a world of excitement in her practical, down-to-earth style of speaking. She delivered a powerful stirring message that it is okay to take the crumbs as long as you are taking it from the Master’s table (Matthew 15: 21-28; Mark 5). Eleanor is a principal in the Lancaster Independent School District, near Dallas. She strives to empower students to make choices that will demonstrate a respectful and responsible character. The Real View Panel Discussion Unfortunately, even good things come to an end. As the day’s events began to wind down, Dr. Tony Evans, Dr. Lois Evans, and guest speakers Anita Carmen and Eleanor Webb engaged the audience in a question and answer session. The panel was led by Emcee Pricilla Evans Shirer. The audience submitted their questions in writing before the session began. Questions ranged from intimacy in marriage, infidelity, to every-day Christian living. The panelist responded candidly with scriptural and practical answers, at times engaging the audience in humor. The D.I.V.A.S. experienced a God inspiring two-day trip filled with encouragement and empowerment. Relationships were built and acquaintances were established through laughter and a fun game of “To Tell the Truth”. We left the conference restored and reminded that though the storms may rage in our lives, our souls have been anchored in the Lord. He will keep us in perfect peace when we keep our minds on Him and we trust in Him (Isaiah 26:3). Get ready, get ready, get ready. Don’t miss next year! Mark your calendar and save the date for another glorious, fun-filled time at the 2019 Desperate for Jesus Conference. The 2019 event will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 with featured guests Lisa Harper, Valorie Burton, Sherry Hill, and Vicki Yohe.
