HERO

In The Dark Knight, Batman is the hero. He has to protect the city of Gotham from the Joker and Two-Face. He stands for justice and is constantly protecting citizens from danger.

Damsel in Distress

Rachel Dawes is the damsel in distress in The Dark Knight. Batman has to save her from the Joker in a few separate occasions in the movie. She is used by the Joker to lure out Batman.

Devil Figure

The Joker is the devil figure in The Dark Knight. He is the main antagonist of the film and never does a good deed. He murders and commits crimes. Batman has to fight him to save Gotham.

Loyal Retainer

Alfred is the loyal reatiner. He is Bruce Wayne’s butler and he helps Bruce in his times of need. Even though he is the servant, he is heroic himself.

Commissioner Gordon helps Batman fight crime. He helps Batman whenever he can, and tries to help Batman bring down the Joker.

Lucius Fox works for Bruce Wayne, and provides him tools to be Batman. He helps Batman get weapons to fight crime including the Batmobile.

Evil Figure With the Ultimately Good Heart

Harvey Dent is a good man who becomes evil because of Rachel dying. The Joker uses his anger to make him into a villain. He is still a good person, but has been manipulated.

The Task

Batman’s task is to save Gotham from the Joker and Two-Face. He also has to save Rachel Dawes from the Joker.

The Fall

Batman’s fall is at the end of the movie when he takes the blame for all the crimes committed by Two-Face. He is now considered a villain by Gotham.

Batman has to triumph over the Joker despite great odds.

The Unhealable Wound

Batman’s unhealable wound is the death of his parents in front of him. This marks Bruce Wayne’s loss of innocence.

Haven vs. Wilderness

Batman’s haven is the Batcave where he spends time getting ready to fight evil and regain health.

Black is used in the movie in Batman’s costume to symbolize protection and mystery.
