The piano students of Dr. Beth Laytart presented a spring recital at the Cynthiana Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 28. Seventeen students participated, including Lucy Barry, Corrie Bascom, Kara Bracken, Meliah Carrel, Michaela Carrel, Ava Craig, Andra Gaunce, Elijah Harris, Amy Johnson, Anna Blake McDaniel, Morgynn McDaniel, Mary Hollis Partin, Olivia Partin, Harry Smith, Ross Smith, Jared Thomas, and Josie Vaughn.
Each year’s recital has a theme and stu-dents choose their recital pieces accord-ingly. The theme was popular music. The younger students performed children’s songs such as “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” “I’m a Little Teapot,” “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” and “You are My Sunshine.” The older students per-formed from movies such as Twilight, The Wizard of Oz, The Lord of the Rings,
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Peanuts, The Sting and The Phantom of the Opera. Students also performed popular hits recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis, Billy Joel and Tanya Tucker.
One senior was recognized at this year’s event. Corrie Bascom, daughter of Raymond and Kathy Bascom of Paris.
Seven other students were recognized at the recital for the publication of their original piano compositions in the music magazine, “Piano Explorer.” These stu-dent composers included Kara Bracken, Ava Craig, Anna Blake McDaniel, Mary Hollis Partin, Olivia Partin, Ross Smith, and Jared Thomas.
The recital was a success and each stu-dent presented an excellent performance that was indicative of a good year’s hard work and study.
