Head Boy and Head Girl Speak:

    Our Journey through Cygnus…

It was just a week before the summer holidays, when I joined the school, May 2015. I was a bit late on the first day to the school but

walking through that corridor, I realized that this is a new

beginning and the stories that will be created here will stay

with me forever. As a person, I am an introvert and take time to

open up and talk. But to my utter surprise on the very first day of the school in 2016, I was able to express myself freely without any

hesitation. Cygnus changed a lot in me. Over the years, I saw

myself growing up from a shy, introvert boy to a confident and

self-assured boy. The school boosted my confidence and groomed me into an impressive personality. I was fortunate to have some of the best

teachers ranging from Smita Ma’am to Hadrian Sir. From pillow fighting on school

trips to playing football in the school, or listening to the rock music as a part of

Cygnus Fest, I have created priceless memories with my friends. The day I was

elected as the Head boy, I knew I do deserve the post and thus I promised myself that I will work hard to rise to the expectation of all those who selected me and will

carry on with my duties diligently till the day I hand over my position to my

    successor.

From being the Vice-Captain of Pegasus House to the Head boy of the school,

the journey was surely memorable for me.

When I joined Cygnus in 2011, little did I know that it was the

beginning of the most exciting journey of my life! Everything here

is so much fun, from the sorting of students into houses to the numerous events we have…With every passing year, Cygnus

has not only increased in its strength but has also offered us

many new opportunities be it academics or non-academics.

The school provides an excellent platform wherein the students

can uncover their talent in varied and diverse areas. I discovered my niche for acting and oratory skills by participating in various

competitions and by being a part of the organizing team of the

various events. I was the Vice-captain of my House and the Head Girl of the school

which helped me to learn from my mistakes and understand and imbibe the

qualities of a leader. The trip to Singapore exposed me to things that I probably would have never known: the international platform, interaction with the students

of other countries, visiting places of importance and above all managing activities

on our own. Over the years at Cygnus I have become a more informed person.

I have always been passionate about design and now I can relate to different artists from FreidaKahlo to Georgia O’ Keefe because my school introduced me to these

renowned artists in my ART class. This has helped me to develop diverse opinion

about the prevalent and futuristic designs. I have been able to acquire the “21 st

Century Skills” like making films and videos, engineering and construction skills

and oratory skills which will help me in varied ways in the future. But, most importantly…….

I have been able to develop friendship that will last for a lifetime! In these

eight years, I carved a multi-faceted personality all thanks to my time at

    Cygnus!

    Outbound Field Trips

    Creative Hands at Sculpture….

Travel is a great teacher. It teaches one about life. There are numerous gems in the form of varied experiences

stored in it. Cygnus World School organizes outbound trips every year to provide the students a chance to witness

the outside world and interact and get acquainted with it. The students of Grade I to XII visited various places: Ravines, Vasad, Camp Dilly, Orsang Resort, the Little Rann of Kutch, Manhar resort, Mount Abu, Igatpuri and

Dev's Camp respectively. They had fun on various rides, enjoyed trekking and various adventurous sports such

as rappelling, zip lining and rock climbing. They had fun on slides, and enjoyed trampoline, swinging plank, and

rope climbing. The students tried their hands at pottery and enjoyed the Magic Show as well.

    Sculpture is the branch of

    the visual arts that operates

in three dimensions. Sculpting helps students

    develop self-discipline.

    Making a sculpture requires

    a lot of patience and

industry. Sculpting helps the students in developing

    their observational and

    manipulative skills. We are

    glad to share that Students

at Cygnus World School are truly utilizing this

    facility by creating

    delightful sculptures. NE

    LITERATURE FESTIVAL

Books are the best companions. Inculcating reading habit right from the beginning helps a child in varied ways. It adds on to the existing vocabulary, helps in the interpretation of the text without help and learning different

expressions. One such competition was Blind Date with a Book wherein the students of Grades I and II were given a book to read and were asked to present the story in front of the class.

Literature fascinates all! It gives wings to imagination and helps us to create a world of our dreams. It is not just a

series of books in the library, but it celebrates human emotions and sentiments. Cygnus World School brought literature to the forefront by organizing a Literature Week for the students of all grades. The activities were a fusion

of extraordinary performances in activities like Stick Figure, Life Time Tale in Pictures, Martian and quirky

competitions like I Found Poetry, Retweeted Poetry, Spin a Yarn! (Picture a Story), Rap it up!

The festival also celebrated the amalgamation of art and reading with many activities including Mass Reading, Book

Poster, Readathon, Cartoon Heros and many more. It is rightly said that some things are learnt better outside the restrains of the classroom. Thus the celebration of Literature inspired the students to analyze and re-think what

they already know and bring an innovative spin to the mundane and monotonous.

    Book Worms

The tiny tots, the students of Grade I and II talked about their favourite book, gave a brief description about the author and the reason for their choice of the book. It was heartening to watch young students pouring their heart out

eloquently and with self assurance. They made use of varied props to bring home the point. They brought stick puppets, charts, flash cards and 3D objects, soft toys, models, charts, placards and many more.

    CYGNUS FEST

Cygnus Fests are known and appreciated for uniqueness. The year 2018 witnessed two distinct themes: Fairy Tales

Retold for the primary and Hiraeth-The Voice of One’s Spirit for the secondary. The Primary fest incorporated the

reinterpretation of the cherished age old fairytales with a contemporary overtone. The Secondary fest put forth the eternal conflict between the good and the evil, King Revana and Kshayar, and the ardent search for the seven

virtues exhibited by the seven Masters!!! The beautiful and innocent Masya and the Messiah girls proved that we all

have the power to resist evil and come out as a winner in the constant struggle between virtues and vices.

    Cygnus Olympics Sports Week

The school organized the Sports Week for the students

of Grades V to IX and XI. The entire week had an

electrifying zing to it. The students enthusiastically

participated in all the sports events. The winners were

filled with joy and the rest resolved to put up a great

show next year. The Sports Week culminated with the

Pegasus House lifting the House Trophy.

with the Torch Relay by the sports achievers. The

students of Grades I to IV participated in the event

with full gusto! The event witnessed interesting races

such as Scoop and Smile, Stack it Up, Penguin Race,

Obstacle Race and many more. The winners of the

    THE POETS AND WRITERS CLUB

The Gift of Magi Just a dollar and eighty seven cents For Christmas it was all to be spent All Della Could do was cry

No gift for Jim, how much ever she’d try.

Her hair and his watch, they treasured

Their value for them couldn’t be measured.

Her beautiful brown hair flowed like water

And his forefathers’ watch shimmered like a quarter.

For his gift, she sold her hair, For a watch fob ever so extraordinaire

He sold his watch, like a fool

To buy her comb studded with jewels.

By the door she sat in his wait,

For, she knew her Jim was never late.

In the hallway, she heard his sound, And in her hand, the fob she found.

When he entered, he was shocked

On her hair, his eyes were locked

Didn’t believe what he saw was true

What to say, he had no clue.

A weird look she saw on his face

Of all emotions she expected there was no trace. He kept a white packet in her hand,

His expression was unreadable and bland.

On hearing his side of the tale,

The colour of her face became pale

Although their gifts weren’t wise, They were the real Magi.

Warriors From high above the battle ground

    Everyone seemed to be sad

And the ground was covered with

    A colour of blood red.

    The air was filled with

The cling-clang of sword And the families of warriors

    Were praying to the Lord

    The men were filled with

    Love for their state

    They did not worry

    At all for their fate

    The war ended finally

    Much to my relief

The side which had lost Was in a deep grief.

    Many people had fallen into

    A long long sleep

    And their families could

    Nothing but weep.

    Where are you my son

Finding me somewhere? You don't know if I am the one

Who will help you reach there.

    You look beyond the horizon

You look at sea You look at the sun

    But you can't find me.

How will you? When you don't know

That I am within you That I am, who you are.

    Those skies, which are blue

And those people around you That one sun and the moon

    You will learn soon,

That everything around you and within

Editor-in-Chief & Sports Prefect speak…... If there is something great in you, it will not appear and

come to you on its own. One has to toil hard, without

great efforts and perseverance achieving ones goal is a farfetched idea. This belief has inspired me deeply to

focus on myself and improve my skills and personality

and carve the best version of myself. I believe in living a

balanced life and thus have given equal importance to

both sports and academics. I cannot be kept in a small box as I love to explore and learn new things. It may

sound better but in my opinion, “Trying to be better than

someone is not success, improving oneself is”, so I would

advise my juniors to find out their uniqueness and follow

    them in dreams and person.

The only limit to your impact is your

    imagination and commitment.

Q1: What is the best part about your job and what do you hope to achieve by being a teacher?

Ans: The best part of being a teacher is to witness in front of one’s eyes the future of a nation taking shape. I want to be a role model for my students, inculcating in them necessary life skills. Q2: Do you feel that you have had an impact on the students who you’ve taught? If so, in what way? Ans: Yes, I believe I have had a deep impact on all the students who I have taught. I have seen them grow with the values and principles instilled in them during the course of time. Q 3. Can you recall any specific significant moments in your life that has had great

bearing on you as a person? Ans: People instead of moments have always inspired me. I get inspired by the amount of work we, women, can do at any given point of time. I am particularly in awe of our Director, Ms Bhavani Raghuraman, her energy and positivity is simply infectious.

Q4.So was there a teacher who inspired you, or who stands out in your memory? Ans: Ms Vandana was my all time favourite teacher. She taught me Child Psychology during the BEd course. She had a special ability of breaking complex information into simple and easy form. (Interviewed by Abbas Mithiborwala, IX-B)

“When our children joined Cygnus World School, they got a very pleasant surprise, an excellent balance of academics and sports. They got a chance to pursue the sports of their choice. Lot of extra Curricular activities impart the practical knowledge required in life. My elder son Vishwam Bhatt (VI-C) is very happy to join football team and regularly attends practice sessions. Cygnus Team also took care of my younger son Vidit Bhatt (I-C) and helped in completing the pending course. We are happy with our decision to join Cygnus World School”.

“We moved to Baroda from Delhi last year and praise from few colleagues made us choose

Cygnus World School. We haven’t regretted the decision. Personalized attention, emphasis on all round development, complete involvement of teachers in each facet of the student are the few distinguishing points”.

“We are very much thankful and impressed with the continuous support, care, warmth

and encouragement extended by all teachers , Head Secondary and Principal Madam. The school truly is an epitome of excellence in world class education and focuses on all round development of a student. Indeed, a home away from home ...!!!"

“My family is very impressed with the Cygnus team. All the activities are carried out in great details. I was particularly impressed by the idea of collecting funds by selling paintings of the students for Adivasi community. Also, when we joined the school, Miti Bhatt (IX-B) was welcomed positively by all the teachers. For my Son Shiven Bhatt

(IV-C), extra classes were taken by the teachers to complete the pending course. So, right from the security in the school to the team organising the annual functions, I salute the enthusiasm of the Cygnus team. Please keep it up”!
