Beijing and the surrounding area have been grappling with

record-breaking levels of air pollution in recent days. PM2.5

measurements are taken on a scale from 0 to 500. Over the

weekend of Jan 12-13, Beijing saw levels over 700.

Plasticizers were found in Chinese liquor

Three types of plasticizer (DEHP, DIBP and DBP) were

found in four bottles of Jiugui liquor .

The amounts of DBP reached 1.08 milligrams per kilogram,

260 percent higher than the China domestic industrial

standard of 0.3 milligrams per kilogram.

Investigation revealed the reason of high level of

plasticizers, they are dissolved from the plastic pipelines

and plastic sealling-membrane.

China grew to 3.53 billion RMB from 1.92 billion in 2006.

In 2011, with the further development of environmental-friendly new

energy industries, such as biogas, bio-oil, etc., the market annual

growth rate of industrial process analytical instruments in China

reached a new level of 15%.

1. Typical Research Groups A comprehensive research group of

Modern Spectra Process Analytical Technology

(MSPAT) led by Professor Hongfu Yuan , was

formed at Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 2006.

The group has concentrated their efforts on process monitoring,

optimization and control by using various spectral technologies

including portable and online NIR, Raman, NMR, UV, fluorescence

spectroscopy and x-ray spectroscopy. They have developed a number

of near-infrared instruments with independent intellectual property

rights and done a lot of fruitful works for popularization and standard-

setting of NIR technology in China.

Mechanics , Prof. Guoan Luo at Tsinghua University, Prof. Siliang

Zhang at East China University of Science and Technology

The group of professor Qinhan Jin at Zhejiang University are also

of PAT in China.


2. Typical Application Examples of PAT

• 1) Petrochemical field

Sinopec petrol pipeline blending system project (annual

production reaches tens millions tons of gas), by using an online

NIR analysis system for blending optimization and a control

software system, has been providing in real-time the data of

composition and properties of the raw materials and finished

products.


An on-line NIR analysis system developed by Professor Yuan’s group is used

for gasoline blending at Guangzhou Petrochemical, China

Every year one system directly creates a benefit of 12.64 million

RMB. Now, more than 10 sets of such systems are in use in

petrochemical industry, and another more than 20 sets being used

in other fields in China.


Professors at Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics developed a regional / three-dimensional environment monitoring system based on a series of real-time online optical monitoring technologies for environmental pollution. Dozens of pollution indicators can be monitored in real-time by this system.
