BVE PVT ~ Our Parent Volunteer Team (PVT) is a partnership with BVE. To-gether we can make awesome things happen! It’s more than just the events they plan for our students and families, it’s about trying to create a school
community that extends what we’re all doing through enrichment programs, clubs, etc.
Our current volunteers have worked very hard on fun events for all of us this year, but in order for us to reach the next level, we need even more volunteers to join them! While there are current positions open on the PVT, please know
that there is a job for everyone ~ it doesn’t have to be a year long commit-ment, you can volunteer for a specific project or two.
The current open positions are: Secretary Room Parent Coordinator Volunteer Coordinator
If you are interested in any of the open positions, or joining the PVT in general, please contact our
PVT at: [email protected] or send a message via their Facebook Page.

Please join us in celebrating all of our BVE staff. It is TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK and we want to applaud our teachers and the dynamic support teams that
help provide instruction for our kids. THANK YOU for helping express your appreciation throughout this week!
Psychologists from Harvard University have put together a list of elements that are suggested to be the key to raising successful child in today’s world. Although these elements are quite simple, they are really important to remember, and are outlined verbatim, as in the published article, below:
Spend Quality Time: Be there. Not just physically, but also emotionally. Listening to your child and making conversations really help you to bond with each other. Also, turn off all of the electronics and give them your time without any disturbance. Doing things together will teach your child to be a more caring and considerate person. A Practical Things You Can Do: Play their favorite game together.
Become a Role Model: Children learn from things they see and experience. Many parents may not notice
how much of their behavior young kids actually see and understand. This is why you should really think about your words and actions. When you make mistakes, admit them and apologize. Another important thing is respect, which can only be earned. So, always be honest, show that you are human too and hu-mans make mistakes. Also, try to see everything as a lesson and a chance to grow and become a better person. A Practical Thing You Can Do: Talk about problems and finding solutions.
Teach Them Values: It is important that your child communicates with others and learns to share at a
young age. Taking other peoples’ feelings into consideration and being selfless is a really important fea-ture and can become beneficial in the future. The Harvard study found that caring about others is as im-portant as one’s own happiness. This is something that parents need to teach their children consistently, because sometimes the message is not received quickly. A Practical Thing You Can Do: Make them take responsibility for their actions and stick to their commitments. Do not just let them quit a sport or end a friendship. It is always easier to just give up, but it is not always the right thing to do.
Teach Them Gratitude: Teach them to appreciate people and things in their life. Tell them about history
and difficult times, so they can understand how [fortunate] they really are to live in this time with plenty of opportunities. Teach them not to take their life and possibilities for granted. The study has shown, that people, who practice gratitude in their everyday lives, are more helpful, generous compassionate, and forgiving. What is most important—they are more happy and healthy. So, it is definitely a key fea-ture in a [successful] person. A Practical Thing You Can Do: Teach them to show respect and apprecia-tion for people (family, teachers, neighbors, etc.) by being a role model and not taking things for granted in your life.
Show Them the Bigger Picture: It is a commonly known fact that children care about a small circle of fami-
ly and friends. This is absolutely normal, but the difficult challenge is to teach them to empathize with people outside of their circle. Children need to learn that it all starts with one person and that they can make a big difference in someone’s life. A Practical Thing You can Do: Teach them empathy—to reach out to a classmate in need and to not have prejudices. Kindness to all people matters.
Bottom line: Keep it simple—remember the low tech aspects in a high tech era.

NATIONAL BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY! May is fast approaching, and plans are in motion to support biking to
school and active families! May is National Bike to School Month, and kids
across the state will be biking to school and around their neighborhoods.
We hope that families will pursue being active together, no matter their proximity to school. We
recognize that not every family can bike to school, so minutes spent biking to sports practice, the
library, or just around the neighborhood can also be an excellent way to get exercise and some
family bonding time in! Have fun and remember, SAFETY FIRST ~ Wear those helmets!!
