A crow and a frill-necked lizard lived in a dry land. No rain fell. There was very little food.

The crow, who often complained, cawed loudly. “We must leave this place,” he said.

But the lizard, who was more patient, had an idea. “We will look for a cloud and ask it to bring us rain,” she said.

“I fly all over the sky,” said the crow. “There is no such thing as a cloud. I have never seen one!”

“Don’t worry,” said the lizard. “First, we must dig in the sand.”

“You are a fool!” cried the crow. “There is no rain in the sand.”

The lizard began to dig. She labored for three days and three nights. She made a huge hole in the sand.

On the third day, the hole filled up with cool, clear water from below.

The crow said, “Let’s drink!”

“Wait,” said the lizard.

In no time, the hole became a big lake. Drops of water rose up from the lake.

The crow flew into the sky to take a look.

“We made a cloud!” he cried.

It rained all day and all night.

In time, the land became green and rich. Many plants grew and seeds fell to the ground. With the plants came insects for the lizard to feast upon.

The lizard and the crow live there to this day, and the crow never complains.
