President's Message Greetings CFDD Portland Chapter Members!

Spring is finally here and hopefully more dry and warmer weather!

Thank you to Stefano Gaggini from Schnitzer Steel for his presentation on “Executive Management’s Assessment of Credit Risk” at the March Education and Annual Meeting. It is always interesting to get another perspective on credit risk, particularly from upper management’s point of view.

At our annual meeting, we elected the Board of Directors for the 2016-2017 year. I am excited with the incoming slate of officers and know they will do an excellent job for our chapter.

In addition to the election of the Board of Directors, it is also time we start forming our committees for the 2016-2017 year. Serving on a committee has several benefits such as earning Roadmap points for certification and “Dollars for Scholars” points. Serving on a committee is also a great way of giving back to the organization, as well as provid-ing new ideas and fresh perspectives. A committee sign-up sheet was emailed to the membership a few weeks ago and will also be on the tables at the April educational meeting. The committee descriptions are published in this month’s Creditline. Thank you in advance for your participation!

The 2016 Credit Retreat was a great success with an array of outstanding programs and speakers. We had a mix of CFDD and NACM Northwest members attending and many of our sessions were very interactive. As of this writing, we have gained one member as a result of attending the retreat and hope to have a few more. I would like to thank the members of the Credit Retreat Committee Brett Hanft, CBA; Charlene Gothard, CBF; Tawnya Marsh, CBA; Marilyn Rea, CCE; Molly Spearing; and Teresa Silva, CCE; plus Lori Kimball, CBF; and Kathy Hamilton, CCE; from the Salem/Albany Chapter for all their hard work in making this retreat a success. Outstanding job everyone!

I look forward to seeing you at the April 14 meeting.

Sincerely,

Barbara Davis, CCE CFDD Portland Chapter President

CFDD Portland Chapter Scholarship Spring is here! This means you don’t have long to take advantage of your "Dollars 4 Scholars!" All

applications to use your funds need to be in to me by the end of May. As of June 1 we start a

new year and your accruals from this past year will be available.

Remember you can use these funds for conferences, educational classes, testing fee’s etc., and they can be used in conjunction with any other awarded scholarship.

CFDD National conference is coming up September 21-23 in Louisville, Kentucky. We have scholarships available for the registration costs of that conference. If you are interested in attending this conference please get your scholarship registrations in to Tawnya Marsh, [email protected] by August 1.

If you have any questions regarding scholarships or how to fill out the applications please feel free to contact me! I can help you through the application process and also tell you what is available to you.

I hope you are all enjoying spring!

Thank You to NACM Northwest Foundation I wanted to write my sincere thank you note to the NACM Northwest Foundation for my recent scholarship to attend the 2016 CFDD Credit Retreat. This retreat was especially helpful to me as I will be re-writing our company’s credit policy this year. Three years ago, we had a system change and have not updated our policy to reflect the many changes we are now working towards. The retreat was helpful in aiding me in the way I had been thinking about writing a policy. I kept thinking about the WHOLE THING, and now have a better understanding and approach to the daunting task at hand; taking it section by section. There was so much credit knowledge in the room and I’m always impressed by my peers and their vast knowledge and sharing of credit information. They are a great resource and we are lucky to have them. Thank you to the committee for putting this together and the speakers for taking the time to present and share with the attendees.

That being said please do not hesitate to apply for the many scholarships that are offered. Our continued education is so important to our daily lives/jobs and we are lucky to have so many opportunities.

With Thanks,

Molly Spearing, LaCrosse Footwear, Inc.

Congratulations!
