INT. WALTONS CABIN, EARLY MORNING (DARK), SEVERAL DAYS LATER3 3

Several days have passed, and Victor has remained that timein Waltons cabin, recovering from illness. Here, he finallycommunicates with Walton, albeit in a startling manner.

Walton is walking about the ship, reflecting.

WALTON (V.O.)My guest was readily ill, and thus,Id left him in the comfort of mycabin to recover, my crewmatesservicing him. Inexplicable,however, was te connection I feltId made with him - from oneadventurer to the next, I supposed.

Walton looks back to the door into the cabin.

WALTON (CONTD)I wonder how hes doing ...

Walton enters the cabin, and he walks to his desk beforechecking up on Victor; Victor is in the back.

VICTORYou are a kind man, but you havehelped the wrong soul. I havebrought forth evil upon this Earth,and as its sole creator, I must ridthe world of it, and then perish.

Walton is startled to hear his guest communicate with him, heturns around.

WALTONVictor! I trust youre better,then.

Victor looks up, to Walton.

VICTORAnd I cannot thank you enough foryour assistance. But I have amission to accomplish and yourassistance has stopped ... (coughsdue to illness)

Walton comes closer to Victor.

WALTONStopped what?

Victor looks away again.

VICTORMy duties are ill-fated, CaptainWalton. Allow me tell you myhistory. Then, only then, will youperceive how my case cannot beresolved, how this soul cannot be

saved.

EXT. ITALY, DAY4 4

Italy in the 1900s, bright and vibrant.

VICTOR (V.O.)I am by birth a Genovese, and myfamily is one of the mostdistinguished of that nation.

Italys government being oppressed, rebels advertising their

campaigns.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)At the time of my birth, however,Italy was only forming as a nation,and my parents had for a long timehad an interest in the UnitedStates of America, particularly dueto my fathers line of work.

EXT. OCEAN, DAY5 5

Large ship, carrying travelers.

VICTOR (V.O.)For that reason, when I was veryyoung, I traveled with my parentsto America, a nascent, butprosperous, well-to-do land ofimmigrants.

EXT. UNITED STATES, DAY6 6

Traveling across the US. Parents in vacation clothes, familytogether, etc.

VICTOR (V.O.)My parents were always the kind totravel, and this new nation was noexception. We roamed the country,far and wide.

EXT. PEASANT TOWNS US, SUNSET/AFTERNOON AND INT. PEASANT HOME7 7

(Later on) Dust Bowl towns of the Midwest, peasants (e.g.farmers). Victor enters peasant home, peasant family,Elizabeth, Victor looks on with awe.

VICTOR (V.O.)At the age of five, when we weretraveling through peasant ruralcommunities in the Midwest, we cameacross one family that cared for abeautiful young girl. She wasseemingly different from herparents - luscious black hair,piercing eyes looking out to therest of the world.

Elizabeth, little.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)My mother always desired to have adaughter, but I continued theirsingle offspring for many years ...

EXT. UNITED STATES DURING DEPRESSION8 8

Depression. Banks closing, people standing in line for food,poverty.

VICTOR (V.O.)Until the American depression. My

fathers job allowed us to remainin economic tranquility throughoutthe period, but we witnessed theeffects of the time up close whenthe peasant familys farm failed tobear sufficient crops and was thustaken away by the bank. Looking tous for help, Elizabeth was handeddown to us.

EXT. VICTORS HOME, BACKYARD, AFTERNOON9 9

VICTOR (V.O.)My mother fulfilled her wish, andeveryone soon grew fond ofElizabeth. She became my more thana sister.

EXT. SCHOOL, AFTERNOON10 10

VICTOR (V.O.)During my school years, I ignored

the majority of my schoolfellows,but Henry Clerval became theexception. I still remember how Imet him...

Henry is sitting on the steps of the school, waiting for hisparents. Victor walks up to him from behind.

VICTOR (CONTD)Hey there. Waiting for someone?

HENRYYeah, my dad. Hes a little late,

as you can tell.

VICTORRight. Say, youre from my mathclass, arent ya?

HENRYMs. Goldstein?

VICTORMhm!

HENRY

Yes! Where do ya sit?

Victor sits down next to Henry.

VICTORRight in front of Miguel. The funnyone, member?

HENRYYes! He is hilarious!

VICTORYup. Hey, do you collect anytrading cards? Pokigo or Yuge-mon?

HENRYPokigo all the way! And you?

VICTORSame one! Show me what ya got.

Sun begins to set.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)So that afternoon ensued until hisparents arrived, and I walked a 5-minute trek home.

EXT. BACKYARD, AFTERNOON11 11

VIctor and Henry are playing in Victors backyard.

VICTOR (V.O.)I learned, oddly enough, thatHenrys family had also come fromItaly, but from Rome, in his case.Henry was a person of singulartalent, with an admiration ofenterprise and hardship. Weremained together through secondaryschool.

Victor and Henry pretending to be knights.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)I remember - he would always makemy friends and I act out playsstraight from The Knights of theRound Table, or the Heroes ofRoncesvalles. Often, wed includeElizabeth in them, pretending shewas the fair maiden that was to berescued from the tower.

EXT. FRONT OF VICTORS HOME, SUNSET/AFTERNOON12 12

There is a storm going on. The radio features a newscastertalking about the storm.

EXT. VICTORS NEIGHBORHOOD AND CITY - STORM15 15

NEWSCASTERA storm that has brewed over thePacific Ocean for days has nowentered the greater metropolitanarea of our city and begun to dealdamage. Unrelenting lightningstrikes in the Downtown area havecaused twenty-one deaths,architectural damage and blackouts.Meanwhile, in the suburbs, heavyrain has caused floods in many

neighborhoods, forcing theevacuation of many throughout thearea.

INT. VICTORS HOME, STORM16 16

VICTOR (V.O.)Never had I heard such adistressing message on the radio.

VICTORS FATHERVictor! Come to the foyer!

INT. VICTORS HOME LIVING ROOM, STORM17 17

There is a man sitting on a chair, next to Victors family,Elizabeth, and his brother. A collegiate of great knowledge,he begins to speak.

COLLEGIATEElectricity has been our enemy forlonger than it has been our aid,and tonight, we witness it morestrongly than we would wish to.

VICTOR (V.O.)That man, whose name Ive neverbeen able to conjure up since, wasa crucial influence to the veryfiber of what I believed in.

EXT. RESORT HOME/VACATION PLACE, MORNING18 18

VICTOR (V.O.)Some years, earlier on a trip withmy family to see some relativesthat had come to visit us, from

Geneva ...

Victor is now in the library of a large home, as he begins todive into one of the books on a desk. He walks towards thedesk.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)I ran into my fate. Their newlyacquired home had apparently beensold to them with the contents ofan expansive library untouched, andas an avid reader, I couldnt helpbut take a look.

Victor sits down at the desk, as he picks up one of the bookson the top.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)The writings of Cornelius Agrippa.The sayings of Albertus Magnus. Aninsight into the human body, but arejected one. It delved too deepinto the unknown, but at the time,I read their words with unmatched,immutable fascination. They wereteachers, and I became their

disciple.

Victors father opens the door of the library and walks intothe room.

VICTORS FATHERVictor! What are you up to?

Victor looks up from his book, briefly.

VICTORHello! Im just reading a book, isall.

VICTORS FATHERAh, lets see what youre reading.

Victors father grabs the book from Victor, and looks on thecover.

VICTORS FATHER (CONTD)Cornelius Agrippa?

Victors father throws the book onto the ground.

VICTORS FATHER (CONTD)Victor ... do yourself, and yourfather, a favor. Do not waste yourtime with this trash. This will

never serve you ... it is all lies!

Victors father walks out the room, opening and closing thedoor.

VICTOR (V.O.)Had my father explained to me whatmade these mens writings suchtrash, as he put it, I wouldvelikely not encountered the fate Idid. But my vehement passions keptme going ...

EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD/VICTORS HOME - STORM19 19

Shot of storm combined with COLLEGIATE.

VICTOR (V.O.)... even past the words of thatman. His words about electricity,galvanism; they all overthrew thewords of Agrippa, and Magnus - myteachers, defeated. At the time,his brief, yet utterly poignantwords stopped me from pursuing my

studies.

EXT. VICTORS BACKYARD - YEARS LATER20 20

A couple of years have passed since the storm. Victor is noweighteen years old. Henry and Victor are sitting outside, inVictors backyard, talking about their futures.

HENRYSo where do you think youll beheading for college, Vic?

VICTOROh, well my parents have resolvedthat Ill be heading to Faulkner,up in Wisconsin.

HENRYHey, thats great, man!

VICTORYes, and Ive already got all mypapers filled out for it andeverything, so Im pretty muchready.

HENRYSounds good man ... too bad yourenot taking me with you!

VICTORIts not for a lack of trying ...

HENRYI know, Im kiddin ya. My dad ispretty narrow-minded but ... hey,hes a great father.

VICTOR

That he is.

INT. VICTORS HOME MOTHERS ROOM21 21

Victor in agony.

VICTOR (V.O.)My departure was set, but it washeld back by the first misfortuneof my life. Elizabeth ... my dearElizabeth, had caught the scarletfever.

Mothers room, Victors mother is helping Elizabeth.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)My mother came to her assistance...

FADE OUT.

Mother gasps.

FADE IN:

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)But by the cruel irony of MotherNature, it was Elizabeth the onesaved, and my mother the one todie.

VICTOR (V.O.)

Dying calmly, she left Elizabeth toreplace her ... I indulge a hopeof meeting you in another world,my mother said.

EXT. TRAIN STATION, AFTERNOON22 22

Train departing for Faulkner.

VICTOR (V.O.)These events deferred my departurefor Faulkner, but I was eventually

on my way.

EXT. FAULKNER23 23

Victor walking through Faulkner.

VICTOR (V.O.)Faulkner was the beginning of alife in simultaneous evasion andpursuit. First I met ProfessorWaldman.

INT. CLASSROOM24 24

Victor enters classroom, meets Professor Waldman.

VICTORM. Waldman! Good morning, sir?

WALDMANMorning, pupil. Whats your name?

VICTORVictor Frankenstein.

WALDMANWell, good morning Victor.

Victor and Waldman engage in a conversation in which Vicotrends up showing Waldman what hes learned from Agrippa andMagnus.

VICTOR (V.O.)Confiding in the professor, Idivuldged my knowledge from whatId gained from Agrippa and Magnus.

Victor has a perplexed face.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)His response was not positive.

WALDMANGood God! in what desert land haveyou lived? I little expected, inthis age of modern science, to finda disciple of Magnus and Agrippa.Your studies are invalid,Frankenstein!

Victor places his books back in his bag, disappointed.

VICTOR (V.O.)With much lowered spirits, I nextmet Professor Krempe.

Victor enters Krempes room.

KREMPEMorning, student! How do you do?

VICTORVery well, sir. And yourself?

KREMPEAs great as Ill ever be!

Victor repeats the dialogue, showing Krempe his studies andgained knowledge.

Krempe sits at desk, fretting for an answer.

KREMPE (CONTD)The ancient teachers of sciencepromised too much, and did toolittle. In our day and age, theopposite is the case - littlepromise, but much doing. Modernscience aims not to replicate thepremises of these men, but insteadto filter out only that which isunquestionably real.

Victor listening intently.

VICTOR (V.O.)The professors words changed me. Ifound in him, both an explanationfor that previous knowledge soheavily criticized, as well as aninspiration to delve into that

which was right - the sciences,chemistry in particular.

EXT. FAULKNER25 25

Victor walking through Faulkner.

VICTOR (V.O.)I began to study the human frame,the components of the humananatomy, and fell in fascinationwith the same. The ultimate

creation of Mother Nature, the fuelof this Earth. I loved the human... but I could also make my own,in my own shape. Could I not? Ibegan to carve out the perfecthuman ...

ACT 3

EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD/VICTORS HOME

Victor frustrated on desk.

VICTORIs this what Im cursed with!

Victor throws bottles and miscellaneous items off the desk.

VICTOR (CONTD)Is this why God has put me on thisEarth for? To concoct a horrendouscreature intent on evil!

VICTOR (V.O)Walton ... this is the crux of mystory, the beginning of mydownfall. Could you imagine being

burdened with an agent ofcorruption, vile and reckless?

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)I knew no fear from supernaturalhorrors, from the face of death,from darkness. I was not moved bythese things, but any normal humanbeing would cower in fear at the

first hint.

Lightning, storm.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)I passed days of labour andfatigue, at times questioning myhealth and welfare, but never mypurpose and actions. I becamemyself capable of bestowinganimation upon lifeless matter.

Moon in the dark night.

VICTOR (CONTD)So my ill-fated work began. Throughhard work, I constructed theintricate framework of fibers,muscles and veins that form thecore of the human body, and isresponsible for human function.

Mailman.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)My fatehr responded to my silence

only by inquiring further into myoccupation. Of course, I could nottell him. But in ym mind, I saw mywork as altruistic - if I continuedand suceeded, I might in process oftime renew life where death hadapparently devoted the body tocorruption.

VICTOR (V.O.) (CONTD)Often I glared at the wreck Idbecome, but I defeated that notionwith the idea that this appearance,as well as my fevers and pains,would all dissipate upon completionof my project. I had becomesomething higher than any human - Icould give life!

Victor opens up door into lab (house). Falls onto floorintently, hits the ground.

VICTOR

What have I become? A shamelesswreck, an enemy to humanity.Through my work, Ive favoredDEATH, not LIFE! VICTOR!

Lightning sounds. Lights in house turn off.

CREATUREFrankenstein! I am your son!

NARRATORIt was a dark night. Lightningstruck, the wind blew, and the rain

began to fall. An omen, anindication of evil to come ... allthe precursor to the beginning ofthe end.

Victor stands up, and knocks all the tools on the tableinside towards the monster.

NARRATOR (CONTD)with the final clash of the metaltools on the cold, unassuminglaboratory floor ...

Back, suspenseful shot of the monster. The monsters face isnot shown, but Victor cowers in fear on the ground in frontof him ad the creature ominously enters.

NARRATOR (CONTD)... the monster awoke.

FADE OUT.
