It has been extremely invigorating working at Ignite. Meeting wonderful artists from all over Australia and the world, has been a fantastic highlight and they have been a truly talented group.

It has been incredible to make friends with some of these artists and to look at art from an international perspective. Something we get very little exposure at a regional level. A few highlights have been working with Wendy from Hong Kong:]

Wendy Lau

Founding Designer & Artist

Wendy specializes in design, fashion products and illustration, themed around nature and animals. Wendy was fascinated with our resident Eastern Water Dragon. She arrived in whale season and fashioned incredible moving sculptures of whale tails.

and

Andrew Christie

from Sydney, who has managed to create miniature cameos of the local “All Girl Surfers Club, using his 3D Printers, and he is now working with: -

Sprung!! Integrated Dance Theatre (Northern Rivers NSW) for dancers with and without disability. Creativity, Quality, Integration, and Collaboration.

His jewellery is to die for…

I will be going to Sydney to see the Masters of modern art from the Hermitage at the NSW Art Gallery Monet ● Cézanne ● Matisse ● Picasso ● Gauguin ● Kandinsky ● Pissarro ● Malevich ● Denis ● Bonnard

And I’ll be in heaven ...

this exhibition is on till 3rd March 2019 so plenty of time to get along to see it.

Hint: if you soak some your charcoal sticks in a jar of baby oil for a week, the sticks absorb the oil and become harder and less messy, you can draw nice fine lines. Wrap the ends in a bit of aluminium foil and this will stop you getting an oily hand

MEMBERS PROFILE

DI BELL

I’ve always been interested in the arts so in 1998, while still living in central Queensland , I joined the Rolleston Painting Group. We had wonderful times together learning to draw and paint in the Carnarvon Gorge area. Thanks to the Flying Arts organization in Queensland, we got to participate in twice yearly workshops with some marvellous tutors who were flown out from Brisbane or Sydney.

I really enjoyed my time as a regional rep for Flying Arts and their fabulous workshops like the one on Magnetic Island in 2005.

In 2000, I went to McGregor Summer School at Toowoomba to do Drawing and Painting for Beginners with fabulous tutor Sharon Muir. This gave me the kick start I needed and haven’t looked back since. I also joined Maranoa Artists Inc. in Roma and just loved being involved in their workshops and annual Easter Art Competitions. In 2006, I went to Italy with Gold Coast teacher Lucja Ray and that was an experience of a life time.

We moved to Ballina in 2005 and I am still passionate about becoming an artist. I’ve had tuition from lots of wonderful art teachers in this region; Lesley Ryan, Maria Heaton, Greg Masters, Michelle Dawson , Ron Curran, and Kellie O’Dempsey to name a few!

I’m sure being an art student is for life and I’m still devoted to celebrating life through creative fine art. Being able to share this passion for art with others is a privilege and I hope you enjoy artistic expression as much as I do.

There are a number of

great exhibitions on

in the next few weeks.

Make sure you don’t miss them.

EDITORS REPORT I must firstly apologise if I have offended anyone with my choice of cartoons etc, that I have used in the newletters….but I think some are hilarious and others interesting, and worth sharing. Great work from Mary Richards (President), Di Bell (our past president) and Lesley Ryan, who have all done a wonderful job with their reports in the newsletters during the year. I am also very pleased that our BACCI members have contributed some wonderful stories on travel and inspiration, and some very heartfelt artists profiles. Thank you, and remember if you are travelling over the Xmas break, or have an exhibition coming up, I would love you to send in some photos and stories so I can share in the next newsletter. It is your special contributions that make the newsletters interesting. Behave over the Christmas break!! Deb McFarlane
