Open since 2009, Quick Care Automotive is a locally owned and operated automotive repair and maintenance facility providing south Coweta County with an option that has not been here be-fore. Quick Care believes in offering high quality products and services at affordable prices. They feature Valvoline products, but are not a Valvo-line franchise, and perform most automotive re-pairs with high quality NAPA auto parts. Quick Care’s owner, Walter Quigley, is a hands-on man-ager and an ASE certified technician with 25 years automotive experience.

Quick Care Automotive gives their customers a level of service not seen in several decades. Can you remember the 50’s and 60’s? Back then you could pull into a gas station and for the price of a tank of gas have your tires checked, windshield

cleaned, a look under the hood to check the fluids, belts, and be told about any notable problems. Today, in 2011, Quick Care provides that same level of friendly customer service.

Team Quick Care’s skilled, knowledgeable pro-fessionals with 50 years combined experience provide not only quick and efficient service but help customers become aware of any potential issues that may need to be addressed. This ser-vice is provided free of charge. Walter said, “If you aren’t aware your vehicle needs something corrected, it could result in a more costly repair.” He acknowledges, “people look at this service two different ways: some are grateful. Others believe it is simply a way to make more money, and they, if not informed and a problem occurs later, wonder why no one said anything during their

service.”

Quick Care performs an array of automotive di-agnostics at no charge and provides written quotes for repairs. One of Walter’s philosophies: “if you take care of folks, they’ll take care of you”. Quite often his philosophy leads to complimentary re-pairs. An example: when a customer’s vehicle ar-rived for a timing belt/water pump replacement, the outside driver’s door handle wasn’t working. Upon completion of the repairs, the customer was surprised and excited to discover the door handle was also fixed – at no additional charge.

Walter suggests if you’re looking for a place that cares about you, your vehicle, and your safety and would like to experience service that is supplied beyond the price, consider giving Quick Care Au-tomotive a visit.

A stay in the hospital, even a short one, would not usually be considered much of a vacation for most

of us, but I recently got a chance to see how things work from the patient’s point of view. My three days at Piedmont Newnan Hospital made me realize just how blessed we are in America to have such good quality health care. But it wasn’t just good medical treatment, they made me feel as much like a valued customer as a

patient. They really seemed to care.

My family had called ahead so there was a nurse waiting for me as our car pulled up in front of the emergency room. I was immediately taken inside, triaged, then quickly moved into an area where my treatment be-gan. There was no undue waiting or filling out pages of forms about who would pay them. Perhaps bringing my own nurse with me helped a little! My daughter, Jennifer, a Nurse Practitioner, navigated me through the system until I was assigned a permanent room.

Piedmont Newnan has established a team approach which engenders quality health care as well as “patient friendly” service. They were constantly asking how they could make me more comfortable in any way. Each of the staff would introduce themselves when enter-ing the room and discuss the reason for their visit, whether to draw blood, give medicine or just clean the floor. Even a person from the kitchen came in to ask how they might improve food, which was, by the way, very good! Dur-ing a shift change, the outgoing nurse fully discussed my treatment with the arriving staff, and me, in order to avoid possible misunderstandings and mistakes. The result has been a pleasant experience provided by a staff who really made me feel like they cared about my well being.

Let’s face it. We, in America, can get about as good a medical care as exists in the world today. Our problem, however, lies in the “cost” of that care. I don’t believe in socialism, in medicine or anything else, but I hope we can someday find a way to continue this high level of healing in some way that’s available and affordable to all our citizens.

Post script: A diagnosis of a possible mild stroke was soon dismissed. The “real” stroke is expected immediately upon the arrival of the hospital bill!

Gardening Tips

Check potted plants and hanging baskets daily for the proper moisture level.

Water early, unless using drip irrigation, to avoid evaporation. Watering at night is some-

times recommended to conserve water, but this practice may lead to disease, mildew, fungus,

etc. Drip irrigation is best because it doesn’t waste water, can be directed exactly where needed,

and doesn’t evaporate quickly as spraying does.

Deadhead (remove spent blooms) and groom plants regularly to promote good sanitation and

healthy plants.

When pruning plants, dip pruners in disinfectant before moving to other plants to prevent the

spread of diseases.

Pinch tips of chrysanthemums until the Fourth of July to make bushier plants, more blooms,

and hold back blooming time for later Fall color.

Pick flowers early in the morning when the sugar and moisture levels are high. Take a bucket

of water to the garden and place cut flowers in it as soon as they are gathered. Soak cut flowers

in water (stems) for several hours or overnight in a cool shady location before arranging them.

A little lemon-lime soda (or sugar) and a teaspoon of bleach in the water will help to feed the cut

flowers and keep the water clean. Floral preservative solutions are also commercially available.

Freshly picked tomatoes should not be stored in the refrigerator.

Follow the manufacturer’s directions for fertilizing or use half-strength. Don’t fertilize when

the temperature is extremely high. This stresses plants. Water before and after fertilizing during

summer months to protect plants.

Wait until Fall to divide and replant or to plant new plants and shrubs.

Quick and Easy Re-Design IdeasAre you ready to start at design project, but

overwhelmed by all of the new, expensive choices for interior decor? We all get a little tired of our homes and it’s tempting to throw everything out and start all over, but who can afford to do that?

You can spiff up your place with a few quick and easy ideas - some are even FREE!

Edit and de-clutter - Organization is FREE! Put away the stacks of maga-zines, unread books and children’s school paper. Remove everything from your kitchen counter tops and put them in an “easy to get to” box. Then bring the items out as you use them. You may be surprised at what you can do without, that you didn’t even notice was taking up space before.

Move Your Art Around. FREE! Shake things up and move the art over your fireplace to your bedroom. Create a family photo wall in your hall-way. Put a favorite piece in your master bath. We spend a lot of time in there getting ready for work and bed. Why not have something beautiful in the bath?

Lighten Up — Just like we change our clothes from winter to summer, we can do the same for our homes. Change the throw pillows to a brighter, fresher color. Remove the heavy throw and change the rug from a heavy winter look to a light airy jute or sisal.

Rearrange Your Furniture. FREE! Place your sofa on an angle. Create a reading nook in your bedroom. A dresser can be used in a foyer, dining room or family room. They don’t always have to be in a bedroom.

Bring In Some Fresh Flowers. You can use FREE flowers from your yard or ask your neighbor for a few cuttings of their beautiful hydrangea bush. Don’t feel like you have to have a fancy container for them. Use one of the ones that you’ve been saving under the kitchen sink, a cute jelly jar or float a large blossom in a bowl of water.

Rotate Your Family Photos. FREE! Remove all the family photos and replace with only 1/2 of the collection. Then every 6 months rotate them for the ones that have been in storage. Let your table tops breath for the summer.

Paint. One of the cheapest, (although not always the easiest), ways to give a room a facelift is to change the color with paint. I say not the easi-est because, the prepping and clean up are always the most dreaded part of painting. However, it is great at the end of the project to look back and enjoy your new look. It’s instant gratification!

Newnan’s H.e.l.P. spay Neuter Clinic To Partner With

Georgia Heartland Humane society

Free Spay Neuter For Qualified Coweta Resident Pet Owners

Newnan, GA - May 5, 2011 – The Newnan Coweta Hu-mane Society affiliate, H.E.L.P. Spay Neuter Clinic is proud to announce a new partner in the fight against pet overpopulation in Coweta County. An exciting new program has been announced specifically for Coweta County residents meeting certain income restrictions. Jerry Ginn, Georgia Heartland Humane Society Presi-dent; Barbara Grosse, Georgia Heartland Humane Society-Senior Advisor and LouAnn Jones, Executive Director, HELP Spay Neuter Clinic have met with a core group of Georgia Heartland Humane Society volunteers recently to develop a program that is targeted to help Coweta County residents help their pets. Initially funded by anonymous donors, Georgia Heartland will seek grant funding and donations to facilitate this as a sustainable, ongoing program. Due to the specific direction of the donors regarding the startup money, the free spay/neu-ter surgeries are ONLY for dogs at this time. Georgia Heartland will be seeking additional funding sources, in-cluding grants that will hopefully expand this opportunity to pet cats as well in the near future.

• Coweta County residents who meet low income criteria, or who are on public assistance may be eligible for free spay neuter for dogs only.

• The program will offer a surgical package that includes the Rabies vaccine and Distemper/Parvo (DHPP) vaccine.

• Appointments for pets under these programs can be made by calling the H.E.L.P. Clinic at 770-304-7911.

H.E.L.P. Spay Neuter Clinic has hosted several similar campaigns recently which demonstrated the need in our community for low cost or no cost spay neuter. “We are pleased that we are able to provide this vital community service, while offering a quality experience for all pets en-trusted to our care.” says Jones. “We are also extremely excited to partner with our friends at Georgia Heartland Humane Society to work toward stemming the tide of dogs and puppies who face euthanasia at local animal control facilities. We commend them for their dedication and commitment to the people and pets in our commu-nity.”

The H.E.L.P. Spay Neuter Clinic, a 501(c)(3) organization, holds as their mission to provide a non-lethal solution to the companion animal over-population. They offer a unique blend of quality surgical services at a stationary clinic, combined with an active transport program where they travel to a central point in outlying counties and bring animals with appointments to the clinic. The H.E.L.P. Spay Neuter Clinic operates as an outreach affiliate of the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society. Individuals, foundations, or companies desiring to make a tax deductible donation to assist H.E.L.P. in continuing and expanding the number of residents and their pets they can help are encouraged to contact Jones at 770-304-7911 Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.
