Sermon A Lonely Place Rev. Bill Hudson
Affirmation of Faith: A Brief Statement of Faith
In life and in death we belong to God.
Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God,
we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel,
whom alone we worship and serve.
We trust in Jesus Christ,
fully human, fully God.
Jesus proclaimed the reign of God:
preaching good news to the poor
and release to the captives,
teaching by word and deed
and blessing the children,
healing the sick
and binding up the brokenhearted,
eating with outcasts,
forgiving sinners,
and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.
Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition,
Jesus was crucified,
suffering the depths of human pain
and giving his life for the sins of the world.
God raised this Jesus from the dead,
vindicating his sinless life,
breaking the power of sin and evil,
delivering us from death to life eternal.
With believers in every time and place,
we rejoice that nothing in life or in death
can separate us from
the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Almighty God, we pray for your blessing on the church in this place.
Here may the faithful find salvation, and the careless be awakened.
Here may the doubting find faith, and the anxious be encouraged.
Here may the tempted find help, and the sorrowful comfort.
Here may the weary find rest, and the strong be renewed.
Here may the aged find consolation and the young be inspired;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever,
Congregational Amen McNeil Robinson

The Lord gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless.
Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted;
but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,

they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.

Children’s Zoom Sunday Meets Update
Sunday Zoom!! 1/31, we had a very exciting Sunday Zoom Meet with five young disciples.
Mrs. Smekal started us in our studies with Jesus' parables. We talked about the parable of the
Sower from Matthew 13:3-9. Who is the Sower? Who/what are the seeds and how can we see the
outcome of the seeds in our lives today. At the end of our Zoom session Mrs. Williams helped us
create a "Ten Commandment Sunflower" (a seed from the Sower can create a beautiful reminder
of God's love for us). Kaori Hongo
Youth Tone Chimes Choir (YTCC)
This week the weather prevented us from meeting in person outside. However, we met through
Zoom and talked about the instruments and watched a short video of how they make tone
chimes!! At the end we did some music theory games to see how many notes we could name on
the music staff!! Kaori Hongo
Youth Choir Update
On February 1 we had our first Virtual Youth Choir Rehearsal!! We met for an hour and warmed
up with some "sitting" warm-up exercises and short songs. During our time together we did a
short worship service on the story of the Fishes and Loaves. The choristers lead the readings and
the responses and had fun practicing their Mute buttons!! We are looking forward to singing
together and growing spiritually through song and word. Kaori Hongo

Winter Warm-up Meals for CWRU Grad Students
Kefta. Bechamel covered chicken. Cabbage stew. These were Mae Elassal's beautiful dishes
at the Falafel Cafe for January 29, Winter Warm-up Meal when Church of the Covenant and
CWRU's Office of Graduate Student Life teamed up again to serve 64 hot take-away meals for
graduate students across all CWRU programming.
We remain grateful for your generosity, Covenant, as we serve CWRU's campus community
together at this most unusual time. From behind Mae's counter, I heard an abundance of
thank you's and saw smiles masks cannot hide.
Peace be with you, Rev. Shelley Nelson-Bridger, UPCaM
