In this Months Issue
Dear Key Clubbers,Dear Key Clubbers,
Hello everyone! I hope all of
you are living up your last few
weeks of summer vacation because
I surely am! August can be a pretty
bittersweet month. We get to go
back to school shopping, get new
supplies, etc., but then we end up
going back to the same old routine
all over again. I’m personally really
going to miss summer and being
with my friends, but I’m definitely
looking for ward to the new year!
Especially for Key Club!
Now slowly approaching the
first couple weeks of school, I’m
completely excited for the first
meeting! Recruiting and welcoming
the members back to the wonder-
ous journey through service! All
the new events, opportunities,
along with showing your pride
through spirit!
Now taking a step back from
the future and on to this months
issue of “The Cougar Claw”, we
will be discussing the Kiwanis
Fireworks Booth, our U-Swirl
Fundraiser, two Recognition
Awards for July, the Regional
Professional Development Pro-
gram, the August DCM, and a
special section dedication to our
well-missed member, Ben Misch. I
hope all of you enjoy this months
issue and to have a great summer
as well!
Sincerely,
Tiffanie IgnacioTiffanie IgnacioTiffanie Ignacio

“THE fireworks booth on July 3, 2012, on Cactus and Decatur,
was extremely fun! I think I would have never survived that heat if it
weren’t for the amazing people I met this day. Not only was my Presi-
dent, Mari Pascual, and my Secretary A, RJ Immerman, was there, but
some Circle K members as well! We had fun playing games getting to
know each other, as well as advertise for the fireworks. It was a very busy
and hot day for sure! It was an overall amazingly, fun day spent. I will
definitely be going to visit or volunteer next year, even if I am graduated.
I think I might just join Circle K even more!

“I’M so glad that I took some time out of my day to attend
the U-Swirl fundraiser for our Key Club. It was a great way to escape
the summer heat. Also, I was able to see and hang out with some
friends while enjoying some refreshing frozen yogurt. I am always
more than happy to help my club in any way I can. Fundraisers like
these are great because they help fund our club and gives our mem-
bers more opportunities to bond with one another. “

“Lauren Fairfoot's Key Club career is just
beginning. She has only been a member for a year, and she has
done many events for Coronado Key Club so far! If there are
any events at the Henderson Pavilion, Lauren is always willing
to usher, take tickets, greet, or do any job at any given time. She
has helped at the Pink Floyd Laser Show, the Charlie Chaplin
Premier, and A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes. She has
also attended all of the festivals Coronado has with Vander-
burg, Twitchell, and Wolff Elementary! We are sure to count
on Lauren whenever we help elementary school students.
Lauren also participated at other events like the Walk to End
Alzheimers and Region Training Conference! Aside from being
in Key Club, Lauren was a part of the school's orchestra! She is
a very dedicated member, and once hour sheets are due, she
never misses a deadline! Lauren also had one of the highest
hours out of her class during the 2011 - 2012 Key Club
Term! Congrats Lauren (: “

“The DCM at Silverado park was a great way to socialize with the other Key Clubbers. It was a fun
time spent being able to be a part of the announcements for the upcoming year. Along with the presen-
tation of the Member of the Month and Club of the Month as well. Though our club didn’t win, we
surely are glad for those who did! To also add to the arrangement, thank you to our club advisor, Mr.
Bolin, for preparing the burgers and hotdogs for everyone at the DCM! It was very much appreciated
to him! Overall, the day was very well spent!”

"The Southern Nevada Regional Professional Development Program needed help to send math posters throughout schools through Nevada. Secretary A, RJ Immerman and Lieutenant Governor of 28 South, Nicky Chung, and later on Division Specialist, Calvin Kleber came along to help. Once we got there, Cheryl, one of the lead coordinators of RPDP, had a job for us once we arrived. There was a prob-lem with the assortments of posters. Some of the 7th grade posters had mixed up with the 3rd grade. The four of us got
straight to work with others from Green Valley and Liberty. It wasn't simple as it may sound, but we had to replace most of the posters and re-seal them. The process of reopening, rearrang-ing the posters, reseal-ing, and sending off envelopes was time consuming, but none-theless we knew this would help Nevada schools across the coun-ty. It seemed that we had to go through hundreds or what seemed like thousands of letters to fix, but we handled them quickly. In reality, us volunteers fixed them in about three hours flat. After we took a break and got lunch, we did another process of arranging posters. We positioned posters from 7th and 8th grade posters so that we can seal more posters off to schools
across Nevada. We worked from 8AM - 2PM helping with whatever the Southern Nevada Regional Professional Development Program needed. Through all the fits of work we had, it was worth it. We helped many schools get free posters to help their students get more educated!"

“RPDP was an extremely fun event to attend. The morning started when my mom dropped me off at president Mari's house to carpool with Mari and Lt.G Nicky Chung. When we got there and meet the person in charge we started correcting a mistake that was made the day before. We did this for most of the morning. Then, right before lunch we started making up the posters and putting them in envelopes. I was very glad I attended, and look forward to doing it again!”

“Going to the August DCM was a great way for me to prepare for the end of summer. I was able to catch up with recent Key Club related news that I've missed in my absence. I was also able to reconnect with other Key Clubbers that I haven't seen in so long. And enjoying free food was a nice bonus. I definitely can not wait to kick off the school year with some Key Club spirit!”

FOREVER IN OUR MEMORIES..
BEN MISCH
"Ben Misch has been a very dedicated member throughout his
first year of Key Club. No matter what, I would always see him at club
meetings avidly listening! He would always ask questions and sit front row
at meetings since he was such a dedicated member! Ben always, always
tried his hardest to help his community, and I emphasize that greatly! He
always got his hours done and stuck through Key Club until the end!
He will be surely missed for his hard work, dedication, and his love of
service! Ben will not be forgotten, for he has provided a legacy for future
leaders to follow. I hope members this year will go follow the same path as
he once did. Ben Misch truly made Coronado proud by always helping
out his community through thick and thin. I hope the best for his family
and give my condolences! He will never be forgotten and will always be
part of the Coronado Key Club Family."
- MARI PASCUAL
PRESIDENT
“When I first heard of Ben Misch's passing, I was at a party, scrolling
through Facebook on my phone. I saw a picture dedicated to Ben, and
stared at the picture, because I recognized the boy. I showed Tiffanie, and
we were both shocked. We couldn't believe it. I didn't know Ben personal-
ly, but I always remembered seeing him during Key Club meetings to-
wards the end of the year. He would always sit in the front row, and as far
as I remember, he participated in as many events as he could. I loved how
dedicated he was. By looking at him, one could tell that he was a nice boy;
hardworking as well. He was only 14 and had so much time ahead of him.
It's a real shame knowing that someone so young passing away. Rest in
peace, Ben Misch.”
- ELAINA XIE
VICE PRESIDENT
“This is a been a sad couple months for Coronado Key Club and the
Coronado community. As you may know we lost Ben Misch just a couple months ago. I had the immense privilege of serving him as his class representative this past last year. It saddens my heart deeply to think that only a couple months ago, he was asking questions and be-ing an active Key Club member. He always made me laugh and put a smile on my face on the worst of days. Ben, while I only knew you for a short bit, I will miss you dearly.
- RJ IMMERMAN

[[SEPTEMBER 6, 1997—JUNE 23, 2012]]
“I've known Ben Misch since elementary school, and to hear about his
passing was definitely saddening. He was hilarious, a very smart student,
and most of all, a dedicated Key Clubber. Ben's devotion to the club really
showed to us. If we ever needed help at an event, he was there. He was
always the type of person to show happiness and care for people no matter
what. Ben will be greatly missed!”

“Ben Misch was always a quiet kid, he seemed so harmless,
and meant only good for his community. I really wish I could have
gotten to know him better, gotten closer, and maybe build a close
friendship. I noticed he was a unique person, that had a one-of-a-
kind way to get around things, and try to be happy no matter the
circumstances. He will forever be missed, and will be in all of our
hearts here in Coronado High School .”
-SERGIO LINARES
TREASURER
“Why has Key Club become such an impact towards our lives? I
honestly wondered the same thing too. But after hearing the passing of
Ben Misch on June 23, that question be came more clear to me than
ever. It truly showed me that being a part of the Kiwanis organization,
you are surrounded by amazing strangers who came to do the same
thing- giving back to the community. That everyone in this organiza-
tion is family. Ben was such a dedicated Key Clubber, one who took
his time for Key Club and giving back seriously. I loved his spirit and I
couldn't believe of his passing. I didn't know Ben on a personal level,
but being a part of his life still affected me greatly. They say that rough-
ly 160,000 people die everyday, but to think one, who is dear close to
us, was chosen. Thank you Ben Misch for giving a great impact to my-
self and others, you were an amazing person. May you Rest in Peace

“I remember Ben Misch as a bright and cheerful key clubber just start-
ing out in his freshman year. He was a friendly person and was genu-
inely dedicated to service events and the principles of key club. Further-
more, I remember offering to room with him during a school trip over-
seas in order to get to better know him. Unfortunately he passed before
we could get to know each other and I remember hearing the news
with his grieving family. Ben was ultimately a great young person who
had yet to discover his potential later in life and accomplish
the opportunities life holds had he not been taken from us so early. All
of key club will remember Ben and continue to serve
with remembrance of him.”
-JONNBY LAGUARDIA
SAA/SERVICE EVENT CHAIR
“Ben Misch was an active Key Club member and remem-ber seeing him many times around school and at Key Club meetings. I’m very regretful that I didn’t become better acquainted with him. From what I’ve read and heard about him, he seemed like a wonderful person. My parents said they were familiar with his parents as they are all pediatricians. I would have loved to meet him because we at least had our parent’s professions as common ground. I think the saddest thing about young deaths is the loss of what they could have done in this world. Ben Misch may you forever rest in peace.”
-RACHEL OSHIRO
SOPHOMORE REPRESENTATIVE
“Though I never talked to him, he was a key clubber that
stood out to me. He was such a dedicated member that there was
no way I couldn't notice him. I remember that I always sat a row
behind him at meetings with him in the very first row ready to
listen to the day's agenda. It's a small word though, is it not? I never
talked to him, but I recently just found out that his mother is my
doctor. Wow. I wish I talked to him and got to know him because
he seemed like such a wonderful kid with a big heart. .”
-BRENDA TRAN
JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE
“Ben Misch. Although I was not that close to Ben, I can tell
that he was a boy full of joy and happiness. I would always see him
with a positive attitude and a gigantic smile on his face. In addition
to that, his laughter was contagious and that always brought a smile
to my face. He's one of kind and I don't think anyone can replace
the joy he brought into our club. Having him pass away is a HUGE
loss for us, but he will always be remembered by his fellow Key
Clubbers. RIP Ben Misch, one of the brightest members of our Key
Club.”
