Dear Parent, Carer and Student,

Thank you for your interest in Peripatetic Music

Lessons at the Cottesloe School. We are delighted

to share with you the musical opportunities that are

available to all of our students, which are taught by

specialist instrumental teachers.

The Government recognises the many transferable skills that

learning an instrument instills, as it engages every aspect of the

brain all at once. Benefits range from developing spatial

intelligence, improved memory, achieving better grades and

enhancing social and cultural interests.

If you wish to take up or continue lessons in an instrument,

please contact the relevant teacher directly, or, if you have any

questions please contact a member of the Performing Arts Team.

We hope your son/daughter will enjoy the opportunity to learn an

instrument and join one of our many extra-curricular ensembles.

Miss Mayhew Mrs Pinto Head of Performing Arts Head of Music

Qualifications and teaching experience:

I have a degree in Music, and a Licenciate to the London College of Music and Media. I have over 15 years of vocal coaching experience, and a vast experience of training children to get into Theatre schools such as Guildford school of acting and Mountview.

Repertoire and exam opportunities:

I believe that all students should learn every style. So we do a lot of Pop and Musical Theatre, but I also like to sneak in a bit of Classical here and there to make sure that their technique is well rounded. I enter students for LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) exams. These are recognised by UCAS, and wherever possible my aim is to get the older students (Years 11, 12 and 13) through the higher grades (6,7 and 8) so that the points can be used for University applications.

Prices for lessons:

£75 per half term for private lessons, £35 per half term for group lessons. Please note: exams cannot be offered in group lessons.

Qualifications and teaching experience:

I have a Bachelor of Education degree and have taught GCSE and A Level in schools for over 17 years, and for over 20 years as a private piano teacher. I enjoy teaching both complete beginners and those who have already started learning. My aim is to help students develop their love of music, whether that is playing purely for pleasure or through taking piano examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. I have a 96% pass rate with 30% students achieving a merit or distinction.

Repertoire and exam opportunities:

Students play all kinds of music – popular, classical, film sound tracks and some written by myself. They can sit Associated Board exams including the Prep Test for those who just want to try out the exam experience. In the past some of my students have played at concerts, in productions and passed exams from Grade 1 up to Grade 6, played in bands, written their own compositions or gone on to study music at university.

Prices for lessons:

30 minute individual lessons cost £15 each. I invoice parents every half term, which may be for 5 to 8 lessons, depending on the number of weeks.

Qualifications and teaching experience:

I have a degree in music from Manchester University, and a post-graduate teaching qualification from the Royal Academy of Music, London. I have taught in a broad range of schools and music centres, and enjoy passing on my love of music and cello playing to all those I teach. I also play professionally in a string quartet and in orchestras. In my younger days I played in a string ensemble that performed with Kanye West at the Brit Awards.

Repertoire and exam opportunities:

Many students work towards exams, whilst others choose to develop their playing and musicianship in other ways. Students play the classical cello repertoire, but also music from films and musicals, pop songs and own compositions.

I encourage students to perform both in and out of school in ensembles/bands and find opportunities that suit them. This might be in a Youth Orchestra, or string ensemble or could be playing duets with a friend or in band.
