Frequency of watching English TV program is the activity of the students

in watching English TV programs at home. Vocabulary mastery is the mastery of

the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus in the academic year

2013/2014 in antonym and synonym of the short text. Students’ frequency in

watching English TV programs can influence to students’ vocabulary mastery.

The purpose of this research to find out the correlation between frequency

of Watching English TV programs and Vocabulary Mastery of the Tenth Grade

Students of SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus in the Academic Year 2013/2014.

This research is a correlation research which can be categorized into

descriptive quantitative research. Variable X is frequency of watching English TV

programs, and Variable Y is vocabulary mastery. Then, the data are analyzed by

using Pearson Correlation Product Moment Formula to know the correlation

between frequency of watching English TV programs and vocabulary mastery.

The result of the research shows that: the frequency of watching English

TV programs of the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus in the

Academic Year 2013/2014 is fair (the mean is 45.11). On the other hand

vocabulary mastery of the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus

in the Academic Year 2013/2014 is poor (the mean is 38.17). From the

calculation, it is found the coefficient correlation between frequency of watching

English TV programs and vocabulary mastery is 0.58. Which is categorized

medium correlation, in the level of significance 5% and N=35 the critical value is

0.334. It is shown that rxy = 0.58 > rtable 0.05 (35) = 0.334, the null hypothesis (H0) is

rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is confirmed, because the coefficient

of rxy is higher than the coefficient on the table of critical value.

This research comes to the conclusion that the correlation between

frequency of watching English TV programs and vocabulary mastery of the tenth

grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus is significant. Thus, I suggest that

English TV programs can be alternative media to learning English. The students

should keep studying so that students can improve their English ability. It is also

possible for those who want to make further analysis of frequency of watching

English TV programs and vocabulary mastery to obtain detailed information.

Frekuensi menonton acara TV Inggris adalah aktivitas siswa dalam

menonton program TV Inggris di rumah . Penguasaan kosakata adalah

penguasaan siswa kelas X SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus pada tahun akademik

2013/2014 di antonim dan sinonim dari teks singkat . Siswa frekuensi menonton

program TV Inggris dapat berpengaruh terhadap siswa penguasaan kosakata .

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan antara frekuensi

Menonton program TV Inggris dan Kosakata Penguasaan Siswa Kelas Kesepuluh

SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus di Tahun Akademik 2013/2014 .

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasi yang dapat dikategorikan ke

dalam penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif . Variabel X adalah frekuensi menonton

program TV Inggris , dan Variabel Y adalah penguasaan kosakata . Kemudian ,

data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Pearson Product Momen Korelasi Formula

untuk mengetahui hubungan antara frekuensi menonton program TV Inggris dan

penguasaan kosakata .

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : frekuensi menonton program TV

Inggris dari kelas Mahasiswa Kesepuluh SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus di Tahun

Akademik 2013/2014 adalah wajar ( rata-rata adalah 45.11 ) . Pada penguasaan

kosakata sisi lain dari kelas Mahasiswa Kesepuluh SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus

di Tahun Akademik 2013/2014 adalah miskin ( rata-rata adalah 38.17 ) . Dari

hasil perhitungan , ditemukan koefisien korelasi antara frekuensi menonton

program TV Inggris dan penguasaan kosakata adalah 0,58 . Yang dikategorikan

korelasi menengah , di tingkat signifikansi 5 % dan N = 35 nilai kritis adalah

0,334 . Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa rxy = 0.58 > rtabel 0,05 ( 35 ) = 0,334 ,

hipotesis nol ( H0 ) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif ( Ha ) dikonfirmasi , karena

koefisien rxy lebih tinggi dari koefisien pada tabel nilai kritis .

Penelitian ini sampai pada kesimpulan bahwa hubungan antara frekuensi

menonton program TV Inggris dan penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK

Muhammadiyah Kudus adalah signifikan. Jadi, saya menyarankan bahwa program

TV Inggris dapat menjadi media alternatif untuk belajar bahasa Inggris . Para

siswa harus terus belajar sehingga siswa dapat meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa

Inggris mereka . Hal ini juga mungkin bagi mereka yang ingin membuat analisis

lebih lanjut dari frekuensi menonton program TV Inggris dan penguasaan

kosakata untuk mendapatkan informasi rinci
