The Coordinate Plane
Objective:
Graph points on a coordinate plane.
A coordinate plane is formed when two number lines intersect.
The number lines separate the coordinate plane into four regions
called quadrant.
An ordered pair of numbers, such as (3, -2), used to locate a point in the coordinate plane.
X-coordinate corresponds to a number on the X- axis.
Y-coordinate corresponds to a number on the Y-axis.
The origin is at (0,0).
When locating an ordered pair, moving right and up on
a coordinate plane is in the positive direction.
Moving left and down is in the negative direction.
Steps to graph an ordered pair:
1. Start at the origin.
2. Move left or right on the X-axis to find the X-coordinate.
3. Then moveup or down to find the Y-coordinate.
