    Former Governor and EPA Administrator ChristineTodd Whitman offered the keynote address.While the forum recognized the substantialimprovements made in the energy sector, expertsand policymakers must continue to find innovativeapproaches to ensure a future with cleaner energysolutions for New Jersey. A panel discussion aboutthese possibilities was held featuring BillOSullivan, NJ Dept. of Environmental Protection;Toby Hanna, Environmental Resources Management;and Mark Duvall, Director of ElectricTransportation and Energy Storage at the ElectricPower Research Institute.

    On April 29th, CongressmenFrank LoBiondo and Jon Runyanwere the featured speakers atShore Medical Centers SpringExecutive Leadership Forum.

    The event was attended byregional leaders including

    State Senator Jim Whelan,Freeholder Frank Formica, andAmbassador William J. Hughes.

    The Congressmen discussedseveral key issues facing theregion. In particular, theyspoke regarding Sandyrecovery efforts, impacts ofh e a l t h c a r e r e f o r m o nbusinesses, and the NextGenAviation Park which offers

    many job opportunities to theregion.

    Ocean City, NJ, once again hosted the AnnualSouthern New Jersey Spring Heart Walk onMay 18, 2013. The Salmon Ventures Team

    (pictured left) participated in the event, whichentails a 5-mile walk of the Ocean CityBoardwalk, and helped raise a grand total ofover $375,000 for the American HeartAssociation.

    Each year the American Heart Association hoststhis event to raise awareness and funding forthe prevention and treatment of heart disease,stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. Thesediseases, the nations number 1 and number 3killers, claim more than 865,000 American lives

    a year.

    Since 2006, Salmon Ventures has been a majorforce in providing outstanding leadership for theHeart Walk. SVL employees serve on theExecutive Cabinet, help organize county eventsand recruit companies and government agenciesto participate and sponsor the annual event.

    In May, the Lexington Institutevisited the Federal AviationAdministration (FAA) William J.Hughes Technical Center and theNextGen Aviation ResearchTechnology Park in AtlanticCounty.

    The goals of the Lexington Instituteare to inform, educate, and shapethe public debate of nationalpriorities in areas such as nationalsecurity, education reform, taxreform, immigration, and federalpolicy concerning science andtechnology. By promot ingAmerica's ability to project poweraround the globe, we not onlydefend the homeland ofdemocracy, but also sustain theinternational stability in whichother free-market democraciescan thrive.

    On April 24th, the RichardStockton College of New Jerseyand the Aviation Research andTechnology Park (ARTP) in EggHarbor Township signed aMemorandum of Understanding(MOU) a l lowing formaldiscussions about the ARTPbecoming an auxiliary collegeorganization.

    The ARTP is a nonprofitcorporat ion tasked withdeveloping and eventuallyconstructing a facility on thecampus of the Federal AviationAdministration (FAA) William J.Hughes Technical Center inAtlantic County, NJ. The ARTP'smission is to leverage the coreexpertise at the FAA Technical

    Center with academic andprivate sector expansion ofaviation technologies, makingthis area the epicenter of thetransformation of the NationalAirspace System. The researchpark is expected to generatemore than 2,000 high-payingjobs.

    Dr. Edward H. Salmon, board

    president of the ARTP said,Development of the Park willbring year-round technologyjobs to South Jersey. ThisMemorandum of Understandingis an important step in theprocess of cooperation andsupport between Stockton andthe ARTP.

    Stockton College has supported theARTP since its inception, withPresident Herman J. Saatkampserving on its board, of which he ispast president. After the FAAapproves assigning the lease forthe parks site to ARTP, Stocktonand the ARTP intend to enter into amore complete agreement ,according to the MOU. That futureagreement would include goals

    and responsibilities for bothparties.

    The MOU outlines the goals todevelop 400,000 square feet ofoffice space and to pursue aviationresearch and development. Itbrings the prestige and resourcesof the College to assist in creatinga world class technology park inthe region.

    The 2013 Annual Meeting of MACRUC was held at the HotelHershey in Pennsylvania from Sunday, June 23rd throughWednesday, June 26th. This was the 18th Annual MACRUCEducation Conference that includes the followinggovernmental jurisdictions: States of Delaware, Kentucky,Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania,Virginia, West Virginia, District of Columbia and the U.S.Virgin Islands.

    There were 28 MACRUC Commissioners in attendancerepresenting all eleven members except the U.S. Virgin

    Islands. In addition, NARUC President Phil Jones ofWashington State, FERC Commissioners Phillip Moeller andTony Clark participated in the program.Presentations:http://macruc.narucmeetings.org/meetings.cfm

    The 2013 MACRUC Conference had 452 participants whichdid not include spouses and family members. This 2013conference had the largest attendance ever.

    The results of the MACRUC Election for the coming year were: The Honorable Gary Brown of New York waselected President; The Honorable Robert Powelson of Pennsylvania was elected 1st Vice President; The

    Honorable Todd Snitchler of Ohio was elected 2nd Vice President; The Honorable Patricia Acampora of NewYork was re-elected Secretary/Treasurer.
