I N T R O D U C T I O N

2005 Annual Report of the Enterprise Zone and Related Programs

In 2005 forty-eight (48) companies were certified for Enterprise Zone and related incentive benefits. Thirty-three (33) pre-applications were received and reviewed in anticipation of certifications in 2006. The gross floor space of all the projects certified in 2005 was 2,414,706 square feet. In addition,1,350 jobs were retained and 1,149 new positions were projected by certified businesses.

The most active municipalities for 2005 were the cities of Waterbury, Bridgeport and Norwalk with a total of 18 new certifications. These represent 499,541 square feet and 310 new jobs in these distressed communities. There are an additional 7 pre-applications for 2006 currently in the pipeline for these communities.

Attached is a complete tabulation of activity on these programs by project type and municipality.

QUICK FACTS

1. This year 48 companies located or expanded in eligible municipalities and were certified by DECD for incentive benefits under Enterprise Zone related programs.

2. 2,414,706 square feet of new or leased building floor space was certified under the Enterprise Zone Program in 2005.

3. 1,350 jobs were retained and 1,149 new jobs were projected by certified businesses.

4. During the 2005 Legislative Session, Enterprise Corridor Zone benefits were extended to the City of Torrington and the Town of Winchester.

5. The Enterprise Zone Program website was accessed approx. 27,000 times in 2005.
