Day 1: FoundationsUsing the work of Brené Brown, participants will take part in an experiential learning opportunity on the roles of courage, compassion and connection in student achievement. The Foundations course encompassess the results of over 12 years of research and equips participants with strategies to use in their home and schools the very next day. Finally, the physics of vulnerabiliy will be discussed leading participants to redefine courage for themselves and their students.
Day 2: ApplicationsDay 2 addresses the “how” of creating a Wholehearted Classroom. Specific ideas on how to create an environment of trust to support and develop an atmosphere that supports vulnerability, authenticity, and even failure will be discussed. Time will also be spent working with school specific strategies (both classroom and school wide) that can coincide with specific curriculum’s such as Daily 5, Morning Meetings, etc.
Day 3: InterventionsThe final day of the workshop will begin by reviewing material, sharing successes, troubleshooting, and working collaboratively to support each participant in their learnings. The latter part of the day will be working on a student study. Based in part on the book, Leverage Leadership, this five part learning series will provide principals and district administrators with specific skills for working with teachers in ways that impact student achievement: fostering a relentless commitment to offer individualized, frequent feedback to teachers about their instructional practice, and building the capacity to offer skillful feedback and direction to teacher teams. Video clips and role playing will be used to demonstrate and practice effective principal/teacher coaching sessions.
