was Held in our city last week at the Baptist church was one of the and most orderly conventions that has been held in Philadelphia tor some time The President Rev Dixon- of New York deserves much com mendatien upon the manner in moderated the convention There were some three hundred delegates and the sessions were very Interesting On Monday afternoon Mr John S Tower entertamd some one hundred dele- gates at a luncheon at his home in Uermautown In the Evening at the Monumental church the psator Rev Alexander Gordon D D the members bera and friends gave gave a public re to the delegates at which time CityThe SpecialThe which- he Monu- mental best ¬ ¬ == many expressed thanks for the hos- pitality shown them while m the city An informal reception was given at the Cherry Sreet Btpiat church en last Tuesday evening to the graduates- of the high schools and colleges cf the city The honor graduate was Miss Sadie Faucett from the Cherry Street church The reception was given by the Eureka Circle of the church an organization composed of some of the most refined and cultured young per- sona of the church Tne President Miss Clara Saddler is a young lady of rare intellectual ability being a gradu ate ol both the girls high and normal schools nd now a public school teacher A short musical program was rendered including selections by the following Prayer by Rev Ferris of Boston piano solo Miss Mabel Faucett accompanied by Mr Edward Hill violinist welcome address Miss Saddler response Miss Sadie Faucett sola Miss piano solo Prof Undone recitations by Misses Flor- ence shortening the distance between Savannah Ga and Jacksonville Fla 27 miles Begin- ning July 1st 1002 the Southern Rail- way will operate its superb passenger trains from the East through Savan nah Ga to and from Jacksonville Fla Its entire train equipment Includ- ing conductors and othr trainmen running through without change thus establishing Jacksonville its Florida terminus and furnishing
