New York News

By: William.S

It has been a busy month for governor ThomasDongan who was chosen by our proprietor theDuke of York. During our last town hall meeting onOctober 14, 1683 in Fort James, Governor Donganpermitted residents of the New York provinceto elect an assembly. Our assembly will assistthe governor and council in governing New Yorkprovince. One of the first acts of our new assemblywill be the passage of the charter of liberties andprivileges. Our assembly has plans to pass thisprovince of New York constitution by October 30.New York is the last English colony to establishan assembly like this. It can pass laws governingus independently just like the house of parliamentback in England. This will be the first of it's kind inthe colonies. This constitution will protect us fromtaxation without representation. Taxes can only belevied by people that are in the general assembly.Every land owner and free man within the provinceshall have the right to elect representatives and vote. Also the rights to our property proposes to divideour province into twelve countries each of whichwill be divided into towns. thank you for reading theNew York News.

New Jersey BreakingNews!!!

By: Liana G

The preprioters of our home New Jersey all wantto make money from our colony. Finally they justdecided to divide our land into smaller pieces andsell or rent colonists to farm. Lots of reporters aredisagreeing and there are lots of people protesting.Since our Preprioters all live in England it was verydifficult to control our fairway. Our solution was topick governors in our colony to rule it. Each of ourgovernors chose a small group to make decisionsfor. most people are agreeing that governers werea great idea. Our preprioters allowed us to electrepresentatives to an assembly. Our assembly helpedthe governor make laws, but sadly it did not havemuch power.

Andrew Braford"sAmerican Weekly Murcury:Conflicts of Philadelphia

By: Taehoon W

The colonist's say that their life had become waybetter than before. One colonist said "Life idreally better now. I was living in a cave dug outfrom the river bank now I live in a real home.Life in Philadelphia is way better now."But inthe other hand, many settlers are worried aboutpickpockets and other criminals in the city. Also weare threatened by French and Spanish privateers. But Franklin says 'do not worry'. Franklin gathered2 batteries of volunteers to defend the city. Thegovernment is a problem too. Working in thegovernment has such a poor reputation many peopleare afraid to be elected or work in the office. Oneman even fled to avoid being mayor. The colonistsalso say the city is very dirty with animals andgarbage. The city's Indians are in danger too. A

group called 'Pixton Boys' are trying to enter the cityto harm the Indians. So Franklin and the militias aretrying to convince them to leave. Would Franklinwould be successful to convince the Pixton Boys? 'How would the city solve all these problems?' thecitizens say. ' Would the citizens of Philadelphia livein peace without worrying about these violent cases?Would they ever have a joyful life?'

New Hampshire NewsTonight New EnglandEastern

By Ethan S.New Hampshire

Hello New Hampshire colonists. In case yourwondering all news of our proprietor is well. Allkids looking for an education can apply for anapprenticeship because artisans and laborersare happy to accept hardworking children. Theexports we shipped out this week included cattle, lumber, fish, and fur. We imported slaves andare starting to see them around. The populationhas been slowly increasing since the birth of NewHampshire. Unfortunately there are disputes inEngland so the government of New Hampshiresigned a merger to be part of MassachusettsBay Colony where the founder of Exeter, NewHampshire John Wheelwright was banishedfor his beliefs which made him a separatist. Thejoining of New Hampshire and Massachusetts hascreated some quarrels over religion. Most of usare Congregationalists. On the other hand, most

colonists from Massachusetts are puritans and wanteverybody else to be puritan too. Massachusetts isworking on a new law stating that all towns thathave 50 or more families need to hire a teacher, partially paid by taxes. As a result, this in thefuture may start a big education system. MountWashington is scheduled to be climbed the first timeby non-Indians in 1642. In addition, our economyis primarily fishing and trading. The town meetingmade and started our first house of worship calledThe Meeting House Green. At the same time, it wasalso agreed that every person shall have one half ofhis ground in upland. Those are the latest eventscolonists.Remember, we are hoping for the schoollaw to get accepted. Let’s pray for a prosperousfuture.

Cod Fishing inMassachusetts

By Matthew L.

Cod fishing in Massachusetts continues to makehistory. Just one hundred years ago about onemillion pounds of fish was exported. Today, thecolony exports more than 20 million pounds. Thefishing industry has provided thousands of jobs forfishermen, shipbuilders, and workers who take thefish and get it ready to be exported.Today, 150 shipsanchored in the harbor. Smaller boats rowed out tothe big boats and brought the cod to the dock wherepeople cut up the fish and left it out in the sea air todry. 75% of the fish will go to Europe and 25% to theCaribbean Islands. This industry should continue tomake money.
