What is the Collegiate High School (ColHS)?

An accelerated education program that enables students to:1. Dual enroll in college credit classes at BCC,2. Earn college and high school credit simultaneously,3. Complete prerequisites for selected university major,4. Earn the university-transfer A.A. Degree by graduation.

What are the Collegiate High School programs? Traditional Collegiate High School Program

– Individualized 3-year Program of Study for rising 10th Graders.

FastTrack Collegiate High School Program– Individualized 2-year Program of Study for rising 11th Graders.

Both programs require students to: – Complete a combination of BCC & high school classes each year.– Finish prerequisites for selected university major.– Remain on track for A.A. Degree by graduation .– Take summer classes at BCC.

What is an Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree?

Two-year degree for students whose goal is a bachelor’s degree or higher at a university.

Equivalent to freshman & sophomore years at a state university.

Total of 60 college-level credit hours. Combination of general education and elective courses

chosen to meet selected university major prerequisites.

Admission Requirements Traditional Collegiate High School

Completion of 9th grade in 26 credit diploma option. State cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher. Completion of Algebra I or IB by the end of 9th grade. Passing Reading & Writing scores on PERT. Record of good attendance and responsible behavior. Meet program deadlines and requirements. Attend Collegiate High School Orientation.

When do BCC classes meet?

10th grade students: BCC classes (10:50) – (12:05) 1 BCC class M/W; 1 BCC class T/Th. Periods 1,2, 5, 6, and 7 at the high school. Friday: No BCC classes – Period 3 & 4 at the high school for

study, community service & enrichment.

11th and 12th grade students: BCC classes at Beginning and/or end of the school day, or evening. Face to face, online or hybrid. Friday attendance at the high school NOT required.

Bus Transportation to BCC for ColHS students

Provided to 10th graders during ColHS periods pending School Board approval.

Not available in summer or on school holidays. May be used by other ColHS & dual enrollment students

on space available basis. 11th and 12th grade ColHS students responsible for their

transportation to BCC.

FastTrack Collegiate High SchoolAdmission Requirements

A 2-year program for students who want to graduatewith an A.A. Degree. Eligibility includes: 10th grade fall semester in 26 credit diploma option completed. State cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher. Completion of Geometry by the end of 10th grade. Passing college placement scores in Reading & Writing. Record of good attendance and responsible behavior. Possibly Early Admission in 12th grade. Meeting other program requirements.

Early Admission Eligibility Requirements

All subject-area graduation requirements MUSTbe completed by 12th grade except for:

– 0.5 Performing Arts credit

– 1.0 English credit

– 1.0 Math credit

– 1.0 Science credit

– 1.0 Social Studies creditThese requirements may be completed at BCC.

When do BCC classes meet?

Varies according to selected coursework and major. Beginning and/or end of the school day, & in the evening. Campus, hybrid and online classes available. Transportation is student’s responsibility. Early Admission students attend BCC full-time – No

classes at the high school.

Requirements to “stay” in the Traditional or FastTrack Collegiate High School Program?

“C” or higher in Gordon Rule* classes.

Maintain state cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher.

College “Term” GPA of at least 2.0.

All passing test scores after 12 college credit hours or enrolled concurrently in appropriate high school course.

On track to receive diploma and A.A. Degree at graduation.

Qualify for MAC 1105 by end of the 11th grade.

What are key considerations for students?

Additional study expectations with college coursework. Courses designed for adults – no modifications/adjustments. Identification of university major in 11th grade. BCC grades on permanent college & high school transcript. Poor grades can impact scholarships and university admission! Summer classes needed to earn degree by graduation.

Balance college, high school & extracurricular demands.

Must meet HS and A.A. degree completion requirements.

Provide own transportation for classes outside school day.

Key considerations for parents…

Parents may not contact the student’s BCC instructors. School counselor is the point of contact for parents.

Family is under both school district and BCC calendars.

Family is responsible for transportation when classes for 10th graders meet outside ColHS day or on BPS holidays.

Students expected to attend class and meet assignment deadlines regardless of extracurricular obligations!

Parent and student attendance at ColHS Orientation is required.

Student responsible to purchase workbooks and lab manuals.

Getting Started - Collegiate High School or FastTrack

1. Attend the Collegiate High School Information Session.

2. Submit the Student Interest Form by the deadline.

3. Review the PERT Study Guide on the BCC website – www.brevardcc.edu

4. Take the PERT either at your school or BCC.

5. Meet the minimum scores in Reading & Writing

6. Meet the minimum GPA requirement.

And once you receive your acceptance letter….

1. Complete the BCC Application for Admission and Student/Parent Agreement.

2. Attend the BCC Collegiate High School Orientation with your parent/guardian . Turn in your paperwork.

3. Meet with your counselor and complete an Accelerated Education Registration Form ; Call BCC at 632-1111 for a registration appt.

Note: FastTrack Collegiate High School students expected to register for summer classes. Summer enrollment is optional for entering Traditional ColHS students.

1. The lower level pre-requisites for your intended university major completed,
