A MINDSET OF SERVICE There’s a lot of traveling, delivering, and visiting going on in our readings today. In Genesis Abraham cares for the needs of three mysterious travelers. The psalm responds, celebrating the kind of righteousness that Abraham practices. Then, in his letter to the Colossians, Saint Paul describes his own ministry as almost like a delivery service: he, God’s steward, brings the word of God to their community. Finally, Luke’s Gospel shares the well-known story of Mary and Martha, and the different ways they welcome Jesus into their home. Amid all this coming and going, we are invited to pay attention to the ways we tend to the needs of others. Each of us can ask, How am I present to God and others in my life? Copyright © J. S. Year of Prayer
Deanery Wide Bible Study
Lectio: Prayer ~ Finding Intimacy with God Prayer is one of the essentials of a thriving faith — why is it so elusive? Though prayer is one of the essentials of a thriving faith, we often feel as if we’re talking to ourselves—or, worse, as if we’re talking to no one at all. How can something so vital to the Faith be so elusive? Now, with the clear teaching and artistry of the Augustine Institute’s Lectio series, Dr. Tim Gray, a nationally renowned Bible scholar and Catholic speaker, masterfully uses the discipline of Lectio Divina to show you how to make prayer an effective effort of love and intimacy. In six video sessions, Prayer: Finding Intimacy with God captures the secret to opening our hearts and minds to Scripture as the means to hear from God and then respond in conversation, basking in his presence and resolving to live in and through his love.
WHEN: Monday evening – 7-8:30pm Beginning September 9, 2019 (6 sessions ) WHERE: Our Lady of Mercy parish hall COST: $30 for workbook Registration Deadline: August 16 TO REGISTER or for more details call: Annie Ferrera (519) 384-5449/[email protected]
