“Grace Moments”
Each Tuesday afternoon, we begin our church staff meetings the exact same
way. Before we pray together, we share with one another “grace moments,”
those moments “Where we have seen God at work.” Something in worship,
something in nature, something in a conversation or encounter, something that
has made us aware of the presence of God and God’s grace in our lives and
ministries.
For me, it’s a weekly reminder that if I am not very careful, I can get so busy,
so hurried, so rushed that my “grace radar” is completely shut down. Most days,
I need to be reminded to slow down and notice the grace of God in my life and
all around my life.
Now I am not talking about, as someone said in staff meeting this week,
“something big” or “miraculous.” As Albert Einstein once observed, “There
are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The
other is as though everything is a miracle.” “Grace moments” are most often
little signs, little actions, little observations that bless our lives in big ways if we
are attuned and open to them. Hearing the laughter of a child, seeing the beauty
of a bird, feeling the coolness of a breeze, really tasting (not devouring in a
rush) a favorite dessert—these and so many more can be “grace moments.”
Being aware of “grace moments” is a reminder that God is at work and seeks to
be made known to us every day, throughout the day. Again, if we will slow
down, have our “radar up” and pay attention.
When was the last time you took the time to take some time to notice a “grace
moment”? I would encourage you to do so especially this time of year as the
earth springs back to life and the signs of God’s good creation and God’s good
presence in this world are all around us. I would encourage you to pay attention
to acts of kindness and mercy and compassion that happen all around us all the
time, but so often get overshadowed by the shadow side of life, the noisier and
often more noticed acts of violence and greed and hatred.
If I asked you to share a “grace moment,” what would it be? Where have you
seen God at work in your life and in the world? May God give you and me the
sense and sensibility to see God’s grace every day, and to give God thanks for
these “grace moments.”
Much grace and peace!
Dr. Jay

Thank you for all your generosity! We are off to a really good
financial start in 2016. After the first quarter, even with one
Sunday missed due to snow in February, our actual income and
actual expenses are almost even. (nearly an exact $2000 differ-
ence) Had we not missed that Sunday in February, we would
be even or ahead in actual income verses budgeted income.
Complete financial statements are available in the church of-
fice for anyone who would like to see them. Just see our office
manager/financial secretary, Tricia, for a copy. On behalf of
our Finance Team, thank you so much for your ongoing gener-
osity! Your faithfulness makes our ministry and witness possi-
ble in this community and beyond.

May Focus: Backpack Food Ministry
More than 21 million children qualify for free or reduced-price
meals through the National School Lunch Program and the
National School Breakfast Program. For many of these children,
school meals may be the only meals they eat. What happens
when they go home over the weekend or over the summer? The
number of children helped during the summer drops down to 2.7 million. This
gap of 1 in 8 summer to school-time participants is the result of various barriers
experienced only during the summer, including a lack of access to meal sites,
insufficient program awareness, and limited resources when schools are closed
For more than 15 years, the Feeding America BackPack Program has been
helping children get the nutritious and easy-to-prepare food they need to get
enough to eat on the weekends. Today, bags of food are assembled at more than
160 local food banks and then distributed to more than 450,000 children at the
end of the week. Our donations go to the Kentucky Heartland center and will
benefit children in our community. With your help, we can provide more food
to more children in need.
Your donations left on the communion rail on May 1st will go to support
the Feeding America Backpack Program.

sistance, medicine and transportation. Thank you
for giving!
THANK YOU!
Dear Church Family,
The Mission and Service
Team (MAST) would like to
thank everyone who helped in
any way on Sunday to make
the Mission Celebration a
fantastic statement of State
Street's intention to serve
others outside our four walls.
On Sunday a hundred of our members joined
members of the Presbyterian Church in celebrat-
ing our combined and individual mission efforts.
We enjoyed beautiful weather, good music and
food, and the fellowship. None of this would
have been possible without the help of many
people---so many that we dare not try to mention
names. But, thank you to all who provided mu-
sic, set up and cleaned up the area, cooked,
worked the games, and to those of you who
came to support this celebration. A special
thanks to the men and the youth who did the
heavy moving of tables and chairs to and from
the parking lot.
Some of you may not have noticed during the
event that several of our friends around the
community joined us for a bit of food and
lingered to listen to the music. The bubble man
was a delight for the children. So even while we
were celebrating our various mission activities
we were engaging in a mission activity.
Thanks to all who were a part of this event!
