MESSAGE FROM THE GUILDS CO-CHAIRMEN Welcome back to everyone! We hope all of you had a wonderful summer and are ready to have some fun with The Guilds. Some of you worked very hard during the summer holding fundraisers, attending workshops and planning for the coming year. Now we are looking forward for everyone to “Catch the Spirit,” our theme for this year. This theme will surely inspire all of us to continue to introduce the arts and the Center to our families, friends, neighborhoods, schools and communities. An important event that occurred during the summer was “Summer At The Center.” Always heartwarming, it featured forty-three at-risk youths who attended a two-week learning experience, culminating with their spectacular final performances. This is an event that changes lives and one that The Guilds enthusiastically embraces and supports. We should be very proud of what we help make possible. We have already experienced a fabulous Membership Conference on October 8th in the lobby of the Concert Hall. Many thanks go to Co-Chairmen Carol Hunter and Mary Shebell as well as their outstanding committee. It was an inspiring day featuring Jason Holland, Vice President, Community Engagement and Alaine Haubert, Principal, American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. We also heard from Talena Mara, Vice President, Education and Judy Morr, Executive Vice President. But the inspiration did not stop there: we were treated to “I Dreamed a Dream,” sung by Kyla Stone, a Six Days of Broadway alumna. Following that we had two artists of Disney’s The Lion King: puppeteer, Michael Reilly with his bird Zazu and puppet supervisor, Drew Hirschfield with the puppet Mufasa. A fabulous brunch was also served. So if you did not attend this year, put it on your calendar for next Fall. We are so pleased to share with you that the new Pas de Deux chapter started with an organizational meeting on October 19. At this meeting, Whitney Kofford, Gillespie School of Dance Administrator, was our guest speaker and gave us an overview of the School. The purpose of this chapter is to help raise funds for the new American Ballet Theater William J. Gillespie School of Dance at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, particularly its scholarship program. The School started with 187 students ranging from 3 to 14 years of age. What a fabulous addition to the Center and The Guilds! The Guilds’ first ever social media event is underway and started on September12 and concluding at 8:00 am on November 12. We have five Dream Catchers representing The Guilds during this non-event, and all will enter Disneyland at 7:00 am on November 12 and ride the carousel. We have been given this opportunity by Festival of Children’s Foundation and Sandy Segerstrom-Daniels. We are one of 43 organizations participating, and we will receive 100% of all funds we raise. So if you have not yet donated to this event, please contact Marilyn McCorkle, our team leader, or Eileen Cirillo, Gail Daniels, Marjorie Gorum or Christina Rice. We are extremely excited about this wonderful opportunity. You can help us raise money, never leaving your home or going to a meeting. Any donation is gratefully accepted. Plans are underway for The Guilds 2016 Annual Spring Celebration “Celebrate Creativity” which will occur on April 1 at the Island Hotel, Newport Beach. This year the event will have a beach theme with the tag line “Catch Our Wave.” It is such fun to work on this event, and now is the time to sign up. Contact Special Events Chairman, Marilyn McCorkle to volunteer on a committee. Thank you, to the entire membership for all of your outstanding accomplishments. We feel honored to work with such a dedicated group of people and look forward to a fantastic year. Dear Friends,

It is always a pleasure to greet members of The Guilds and to welcome new members to the Segerstrom Center family.

Our 30th season is well underway, and I hope you have already enjoyed many performances. Center audiences were thrilled by the West Coast premiere of a spectacularly danced production of Raymonda, featuring the legendary Mariinsky Ballet and Orchestra. Disney’s The Lion King was a smash hit, playing to packed houses and entertaining entire families. We also created a festival atmosphere to complement our new Latin Jazz Weekend. There were many performances in the concert hall and three evenings of free community parties on the plaza with music, dancing, food trucks and lively crowds. Of course, there is much more to come, and I look forward to welcoming you often as the season continues.

Our American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School is in full swing. Classes for the first 36-week program began in September. I’m happy to report that enrollment has exceeded our expectations – we now have 187 young dancers attending classes. We’ve also added three weekday morning classes for adults taught by the school’s principal, Alaine Haubert, which are proving to be very popular. A special thank you, to Pas de Deux Chapter for adopting the School as your special project and raising funds for scholarships. These scholarships will ensure that this world class training program is accessible to as many children as possible from communities across Orange County.

I hope you have all read about the Center’s important new initiatives: the Center for Dance and Innovation, Center Without Boundaries, and the dramatic transformation of our plaza made possible by a generous gift from Julia and George Argyros. The Plaza will soon become an attractive and welcoming public gathering place with many new audience amenities and free performances and events throughout the year. Our goal is for the Julianne and George Arygros Plaza to become an irresistible new community town square, a place to enjoy with your families, friends and visitors to Orange County.

These bold initiatives will help the Center reach its full potential to present thrilling performances and invaluable education programs while effectively engaging all of the wonderfully diverse communities of Orange County. This important new role for the Center as a cultural and educational as well as a civic resource for the entire county is at the heart of the vital future we all seek for the Center.

Please accept my sincere appreciation for your continuous work on behalf of the Center. Your commitment has enabled us to grow, to become a leader in the performing arts world and to make important and lasting contributions to the Orange County community.

Sincerely,

President

Fifty members and guests enjoyed hearing Tim Dunn share on his contributions as the Center’s Director of Public Relations, as well as highlights from his career. We were pleased to have Sandy Bass and Marjorie Gorum, The

Guilds Co-Chairmen, join us for this Back Together Again social. Chairman Judy Kelley and Programs Chair, Linda Miller highlighted some of the planned events for another exciting year of “Let the Party Go On...and On!” By noon, the sun was shining again! Our next event will be October 20 at Antonello’s Ristorante for lunch and a performance by Cheryl Gates, violist with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. We are all looking forward to another successful, fun year.

Cabaret celebrated the end of summer with a fabulous summer party, hosted by Joan Hill, at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club. There was a splendid barbeque and Duffy Boat rides in Newport Harbor for members and friends, which made the day special. Another spectacular event was “A Day at the Races” arranged and coordinated by Barbara Jacobson. Members and guests dined and watched the

thoroughbred horses from the Vessels Club at the Los Alamitos racetrack. Whether winning or losing, everyone really enjoyed the day. A Happy Hour at the Solita Restaurant in Huntington Beach brought out new members, and the Savannah Chop House in Laguna Niguel was a perfect setting for our Frugal Gourmet with excellent food, music and camaraderie for members and guests. Cabaret members now look forward to another superb Holiday Party, while watching the Newport Harbor Boat Parade. Come join us on December 20th!

Richard Rodgers launched its 2015-16 season with our membership luncheon on September 9. We welcomed guest speaker Laurie Barber from the Segerstrom Center, as well as The Guilds Co-Chairmen Marjorie Gorum and Membership Chairman Carol Hunter. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our members and our Membership Chairman

Betty Jean Bowers, we gained 11 new members for our chapter. On October 9 we held our “Welcome Fall” luncheon at the Salt Creek Grille in Dana Point. Five of our new members introduced themselves. In turn, we introduced six of our former Chapter Chairmen, thanking them for all their efforts on behalf of Richard Rodgers. We were entranced by Jim Long’s program “Range of Light,” a visual and musical work of art featuring the Sierra Nevada range in its many moods. One of our guests was so impressed with the entire event that she became our 12th new member this season. In November we are off to Marie Callender’s Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano for our annual Toys for Tots gathering and another unique program to delight our members and guests.
