June 2019 The Holy Spirit was promised to the disciples by Jesus, and we have been praying during this 50 Days between Easter (April 21) and Pentecost (June 9). How has the Spirit been moving you during this time?
As we enter into the summer schedule, continue to be inspired by God’s Word and fellowship with church family members!
SOW seeds of faith, hope & love. The First Sunday Potluck on
June 2 at 11:45 AM will be hosted by Christian Social Witness featuring Pizza Ranch chicken for the main dish. Please bring a dish to share and enjoy fellowship with one another. Also: hear the Great Plains Annual Conference Report after the potluck!

KNOW God. During the month of June, we will share in Spirit-
filled worship services with Holy Communion the weekend of June 1 & 2 and the celebration of Pentecost on June 8 & 9. Hey, guys: wear your ties on June 15 & 16 as we remember Father’s Day and check out the new summer sermon series Wisdom From Above.

GO into the world. We will continue to support Food Pantry,
Rescue Mission and our Blessing Box. In addition, watch for info on
how to help those affected by flooding to rebuild. Habitat for
Humanity work day will be on Sat. June 15 — sign-up ASAP.
What an incredible time of year this is, as we move into summer. I know life is definitely busier for some and for others, life slows down a bit. For me as I transition into summer I reflect on who I was 11-12 years ago, with the rebellion I had against His church. I reflect the
person that God has made me into today, with the love I know I have with Him, his word and the mission He has called me to. I smile at the future that I know that only He can give me. I thank God everyday that He opened my eyes to His love & grace and I pray everyday for those who continue to hide from God’s calling in their lives. This summer I am excited to do our sermon series over the Letter of James alongside Cindi. It will be exciting to see how we will each individually approach the scripture and the lesson. I am sure that God will call all of us into a closer relationship with Him and hopefully open the eyes of few a of those still hiding.

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. Acts 1:8
Between the Road Less Traveled and Wisdom from Above, we will remember and celebrate the Ascension of Jesus and the Day of Pentecost. The apostles waited 50 days for the Holy Spirit to arrive — and when it did, they moved into action to share the Good News of Jesus.
As Christians today, we rely on the Holy Spirit’s power to inspire us, bless us & move us to faithful discipleship, yet where do we gain spiritual wisdom? We turn to the ancient wisdom literature of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, etc., yet we also glean wisdom from the teachings of Jesus and the letters of the apostles who followed Christ.
While Martin Luther dismissed the Letter of James as “an epistle of straw,” John Wesley believed that this letter was central for Christian life and faith while it addresses the need to be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger (James 1:19) and the famous faith versus works conversation.
You will hear many familiar sayings that still speak God’s truth to God’s people.

Four weekend worship services: same Wisdom From Above.
During the months of June & July, Rev. Cindi & Pastor Joe will be sharing preaching responsibilities among the four services (with different configurations for many of the summer weekends) with the SAME theme of “wisdom from above” from the Letter of James from June 15/16—July 27/28. These ancient words from James, the brother of Jesus, spoke to the early Christian community and continue to teach us today.
These words of wisdom can inspire your faith, hope & love and strengthen your relationship with God and with one another. This summer, seek the wisdom of God and remember: Good things come to those who wait (upon the Lord).

Joining Hearts in Prayer: Opportunities
for Small Prayer Groups
Prayer connects us to the heart of God. In addition to the Wednesday night prayer group which meets at 5:30 PM, there is also a new Wednesday morning prayer group that meets from 8 to 8:30 AM, also in the conference room at the church. If God is calling you join with others in prayer for the church, our community, our nation and our world, please consider joining or forming a group. Just ask a cou-ple of friends to join you at a time that is mutually convenient (before work in the morning, over the lunch hour with co-workers, as you walk around the neighborhood, anytime that works for you}. It doesn’t have to be a long period of time, and it’s not about the words you say. It’s about talking together in God’s presence about the people and situations that God places on your heart. If you decide to form a small group and would like help getting started, please feel free to contact Martha Davidson or Anne Kallesen. UMW’s Summer Gathering!
