WELCOME to the CHURCH of SAINT SEBASTIAN
In my own name and on behalf of the People of Saint Sebastian’s, welcome to
our Parish! If you are visiting, coming back to the Church and Mass after some time away, or looking for a Parish, you are most welcome here at Saint Sebastian’s.
Parish Registration
Registration is the official way we join a parish community, please stop in the
Parish Office or register online to become a registered parishioner. To be
considered an active registered member of the parish, members are asked to give of their time, talent and treasure. The parish is in need of and welcomes
all three parts of your stewardship. Sacrament of Baptism
Congratulations on the birth of your child! We require all parents and
godparents to attend Sacramental Preparation Classes. Once you have called
the rectory to plan for the baptism of your child, we will have someone contact
you to set up a special appointment for Preparation classes. These classes are usually done one on one with each family and are conducted by a couple who
are well prepared to teach and assist in Baptismal Preparation. Sacrament of Matrimony
Congratulations on your engagement and decision to enter into a Catholic
marriage! Saint Sebastian Parish will help you in your preparation to ensure
that you make this serious and sacred step in your life a holy and happy one.
The day and time of your wedding must be arranged in person by the prospective bride and groom themselves as soon as they feel called to marry.
No arrangement can be made by phone or parents. All arrangements should
be made nine months prior to the wedding date and done prior to scheduling the reception.
The first meeting with the Pastor may be scheduled by calling the Parish Office
at (401) 751-0196. Spiritual preparation is a key part of this special time.
Frequent participation in the sacraments during this time is important, particularly weekly Mass attendance. It is also strongly recommended that you
bring yourselves to the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this time of
preparation. Religious Education
By their word and their example, parents are the first and principal teachers of
their children concerning our Catholic Faith. The Religious Education of Saint
Sebastian’s stands ready to assist parents in their sacred and most important responsibility. Should you have any questions about the program please
contact Mr. Bob Short at [email protected]

From F R . J O R DA N , O P. MY DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS,
May the Grace of Our Lord remain with us always!
I am making an online Advent Retreat – it takes
about 20 minutes each day. The retreat is entitled,
“Unshakeable Joy”. I offer you the following from
the first Sunday of the retreat:
The One Thing that Matters this Christmas
For this Unbreakable Joy Advent retreat, I
inserted a few written meditations between your
19 videos that are specifically about this holy
season. I hope you enjoy them.
From the book: Joy to the World by Chris Stefanick
Martha, Martha, you are anxious and
worried about many things. There is need of
only one thing. Luke 10:41-42
Searching for happiness and success
You might be familiar with the story of Mary and
Martha, in which Mary is sitting at Jesus’ feet
while her sister Martha does the cooking and
cleaning. When Martha complains about the
obvious, Jesus says, “Martha, Martha, you are
anxious and worried about many things. There is
need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the
better portion.”
That Gospel always bothered me! If Martha
weren’t cooking and cleaning, no one would have
eaten!
But if you think about it, Jesus didn’t say,
“Martha, Martha, stop cooking.” He said, “Stop
being anxious about many things.”
It’s okay to work hard. The Advent and
Christmas season are full of hard work. In fact,
sometimes we’re so busy we end up snapping at
the people we’re working hard to create a
beautiful Christmas for! But Jesus is telling us
“Don’t be busy. Be occupied.” If there are a
hundred things on your plate, make sure only one
thing’s on your heart.
“There is need of only one thing.”
And what’s that one thing? It’s love. Receive each
task as a gift from God, offer it back to him, and
do it all with generosity, in imitation of Jesus.
I know. Easier said than done.
Lord, help me to BE like Mary when I have to
WORK like Martha.
In the Lord,

AROUND the PARISH The Best Gift you can Give
Do you ever wonder what you can give “someone who
has everything” for their birthday, to say get well, or to
let them know you are thinking of them? I am here to
help you! Have a Mass celebrated for them: there is no
greater gift this side of heaven!
The Mass Book for 2021 is now open. Please reserve the
dates you want for your family and friends now. Over
my time here I have come to know certain dates that are
important to different parishioners, and, as best as I can
remember, I have entered these dates into the Mass Book.
But, there are many I can’t recall, and if you want a spe-
cific dates, please contact me at the Rectory, 751 – 0196, or
via email at [email protected].
Having a Mass does two good things: first, and most im-
portantly, it is the most efficacious prayer we can offer;
secondly, and far less important than the first, it is an im-
portant source of income for the Parish. Give the BEST
gift you can give!
Collection for Retired Religious: December 12 and 13
Help our elders. In good times and bad, senior
Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests
have dedicated themselves to service and acts of
mercy. Today, they pray for an aching world. Yet
years of serving for little or no pay have left their
religious communities without enough retirement
savings. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Reli-
gious helps provide medications, nursing care, and
other necessities. Please be generous.
Pope Francis and Advent
“Advent is the season for remembering the closeness of
God who came down to dwell in our midst,” Pope Fran-
cis said in St. Peter’s Basilica Nov 29.
“Let us make the traditional Advent prayer our
own: ‘Come, Lord Jesus.’ … We can say it at the be-
ginning of each day and repeat it often, before our
meetings, our studies and our work, before making
decisions, in every important or difficult moment of
our lives: ‘Come, Lord Jesus,’” the pope said in his
homily.
Pope Francis stressed that Advent is both a time
of “God’s closeness and our watchfulness”.
“It is important to remain watchful, because one
great mistake in life is to get absorbed in a thousand
things and not to notice God. Saint Augustine said:
‘Timeo Iesum transeuntem’ (I fear that Jesus will
pass by me unnoticed). Drawn by our own interests
… and distracted by so many vain things, we risk
losing sight of what is essential. That is why today
the Lord repeats: ‘To all, I say: be watchful,’” he said
“Having to be watchful, however, means it is now
night. Yes, we are not living in broad daylight, but
awaiting the dawn, amid darkness and weariness.
The light of day will come when we shall be with
the Lord. Let us not lose heart: the light of day will
come, the shadows of night will be dispelled, and
the Lord, who died for us on the cross, will arise to
be our judge. Being watchful in expectation of his
coming means not letting ourselves be overcome by
discouragement. It is to live in hope.”

Advent Vespers
Either in person or virtually, please join Bob Short
and Fr. Jordan for Advent Vespers. Vespers are held
at 4pm each Sunday.
Vespers, Evening Prayers is part of the prayer of the
Church that consecrates every part of the day to
God. Join us for this brief, but rich and beautiful
prayer.
Children’s Prayer for Advent
My Little Jesus, I love you and thank You for this
Advent season. Please help me to understand all
that You have done for me. Your loving mother held
You in her heart and brought You into this world.
Help me to do the same.
My loving Jesus, I choose You, this advent, as my
King and my God. Draw me close to You and help
me to see my sins so that I can change the things
that You want me to change.
Mother Mary, pray for me this Advent so that I may
do all that God wants me to do. You said “Yes” to
all that God asked of you. Please pray for me that I
may do the same.
Come, Lord Jesus,
Come, Lord Jesus,
Come, Lord Jesus, come!
I love you, Jesus.
Amen.
Treat Yourself!
Currently, there is a TV commercial for Buick in
which someone is staring at their new car. They
keep assuring themselves that its okay that they
bought the car with the words, “ well, I have been
very good this year!”
I pray that every parishioner will “treat themselves”
this Christmas! No not a new Buick, although I
enjoy Buicks very much, but with the Sacrament of
Confession! Treat yourself to God’s love, mercy,
forgiveness, and new life. Confessions are offered
every Saturday at 4pm, and anytime by
appointment.
Or, join us on Confession Weekend!:
When is Confession Weekend: Saturday and
Sunday, December 19th and 20th.
Beginning at 4pm on Saturday and continuing
until the end of the 5pm Mass
And
Beginning at the start of the 10am Mass, and
continuing until
everyone who desires goes to Confession has
received the Sacrament.
Father Jordan Zajac from PC, aka “Father Jordan
the Younger”, will be hearing Confessions.
Treat Yourself! God has been so good to you this
year!

Christmas at Saint Sebastian 2020
I am very aware that today is December 6 and that
we are on the fast and short road to Christmas. What
will Christmas be like for us here at Saint Sebastian?
To be honest, I don’t know. Because of the needs for
social distancing, should one or two Masses be added
to the schedule? What about the Family Mass at 5pm
on Christmas Eve?
Please stay tuned to the website, Facebook page, and
email blasts. As soon as everything is finalized I will
be in touch.
Christmas Flowers
Please consider contributing to the Christmas Floral
Collection. Your generosity helps us to pay for the
flowers that adorn the sanctuary the Nativity Scene.
Gifts may be given in memory of a deceased loved
one. All donations will be acknowledged in the
bulletin for the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, 10
January 2021. Thank you for your generosity!
