“O come let us adore

him…”

Before Jesus was

born, God devised a

plan to send his son

as a light into that

darkness. In the

early years of our

world, there was

cruelty and hatred.

Neighbor against

neighbor. The strong dominated the weak, and

the rich oppressed the poor. Persons were

more interested in building their wealth and

gaining political power than truly represent-

ing God. So God devised a plan, and an-

nounced that plan through his prophets.

From my perspective, it is still in darkness.

I have to admit that my own heart often re-

flects the darkness and sin around me. I rec-

ognize that this world needs God’s plan. I

need God’s plan. That is why every year we

need to reflect and remember what God has

done for us through his son Jesus Christ. Our

Savior came that we might be saved, and ex-

perience the joy of his love. At this time of

year, we focus our praise toward Heaven,

which gave us the greatest gift.

We praise God for bring us to the end of

another year. We are thankful for a great

Thanksgiving, and now look forward to the

Christmas celebration. I often pray for those

who lost family members, and friends during

this time of the year, but I pray for the les-

sons learned from them who loved us just as

much as we loved them. 2014 takes me to the

first Thanksgiving, and Christmas without my

mother, Mama Georgia Snodgrass. Absolutely

everyone of those I’ve ever experienced, she

was there.

Our Missionary Department, Youth, and

Women’s Ministry are leading us this time of

year to be involved with being a blessing to our

community. The Missionary Department, and

other community agencies join together in a

coat drive, feeding the hungry and the home-

less, along with the Angel Tree, which will

serve to be a blessing to so many. Just as God

gave to us, we must give to others. That is what

will help us to be “A church in the word, mak-

ing a difference in the world.”

Making a Difference in the

World (Part 48)

Food for Thought

Where Will Our Children Be A Generation from

Now?

Scripture tells us as parents to train up a child in

the way to go. It also says that if we spare the rod we

will spoil the child. How serious are we as parents

about raising our children?

We have to mode our children to be productive

for the future. To mould a child one must first lay a

foundation; both spiritual and scholastic. After the

foundation is laid then there must be exposure. What

I mean by exposure is expanding our children

knowledge for beyond than just by their daily sur-

roundings. Then we must nourish them with proper

food.

Most boys today only know to seek sports or be

an engineer. Girls seek nursing of business. Are we

starving our children by not exposing them to more?

Are we limiting our children from being active in our

spiritual world, political, and environmental socie-

ties?

The lack of involvement of parents in their chil-

dren lives plays a factor in the reason why the chil-

dren are turning to gangs for attention. The children

drop out of school because of lack of direction. They

man even turn to drug abuse to cope with feeling a

need for self confidence.

Grandparents and god-parents let’s stop spoiling

our children then sending them back to the parents

because we don’t have to deal with their misbehav-

ior. Help the parents to nourish their children in the

right direction.

I challenge you as parents to become more in-

volved with your children rearing and focus on their

future. Submitted by James E. Smith
