The first four books of the Bible are the Gospels which are the teachings and story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. If you have been reading through the One Year Chronological Bible, you have been seeing this repetition a lot as the accounts of Jesus’ life are placed together in the sequence they occurred. The reason for the repetition is simple. The Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, were authored by the apostles whose books bear their name. Each of these men were selected by Jesus to be one of His special companions who God would use to write an account of Jesus’ life and then go on to be used by God to establish the Christian faith. As witnesses, each man saw things from a different perspective just as if a group of people saw an accident or occurrence today. Each “witness” would have a little different view of the events and they would filter it through their own perspective. As detectives interview the multiple witnesses of the event, they would get a clearer picture of what occurred. God inspired (2 Timothy 3:16) these four men to observe and write down the accounts of Jesus and His teachings. As we read and study these accounts, we are able to get a clearer, more complete picture of Jesus’ life. Luke began his Gospel with the following. “Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.” (Luke 1:1-4) And John ended his Gospel with… “ 24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. 25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” (John 21:24-25) WELCOME OUR NEWEST MEMBERS OF THE FCC FAMILY THE ANGELS ARE REJOICING IN HEAVEN… Sunday, October 21, 2012 after the 10:30 worship services Jody Cole and Dylan & Sophia all made the decision to become Christians and were baptized into Christ! PASTORS THOUGHTS:

As you read through the Bible you might have noticed there is a lot of repetition especially in the beginning of the New Testament. The first four books of the Bible are the Gospels which are the teachings and story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. If you have been reading through the One Year Chronological Bible, you have been seeing this repetition a lot as the accounts of Jesus’ life are placed together in the sequence they occurred. As witnesses, each man saw things from a different perspective just as if a group of people saw an accident or occurrence today. Each “witness” would have a little different view of the events and they would filter it through their own perspective. If you are interested or looking for a Sunday School Class, we wish to extend a warm invitation for you to join us on Sunday mornings at 9:15 am. We are located on the east end of the Fellowship Hall. Have a blessed week from all of us to all of you! PASTOR’S CLASS: This week we continued our study on church leadership. The church is meant to be a community of believers who are helping each other grow closer to God. The process of sanctification or being 'set apart' cannot be accomplished on our own. In any community people will eventually offend each other or let each other down. The church is no exception. The good news is that the Bible offers a roadmap for responding to offense, sin and division within the church. The goal is always the same: to encourage repentance, healing and restoration. God hates division and calls us to unity. Staying offended is not worth the blessings we will miss by striving to be unified.

40 DAYS PRAYER VIGIL We have only a couple of weeks until Election Day on Nov. 6th. Thank you so much to those who have been able to come in to our sanctuary during the noon hour to offer their silent prayers for our country. This is a wonderful time, in the peaceful quiet of the sanctuary, to fellowship with God. It's like none other. Also thank you to those who have shared the devotional thoughts we have been using each day. If you would like to write one or share another one, call the office for more information. On Election Day, Nov. 6th, we will continue our prayer vigil from 7 AM till 7 PM. If you would like to sign up to fill one of the 30 minute slots, call Marilyn (448-6449) or the office (448-3452). Please also continue to offer your prayers at your own home. We so need God back in every aspect of our lives. II Chronicles 7:14

FCC HOSTING 40 DAYS OF PRAYER: As you know, Tues., Nov. 6th will be Election Day. This will be a very important day for our country. Christians will have an opportunity like none before to make a statement thru the vote as to the direction our nation is heading. We feel strongly that there is power in prayer.

NEW BIBLE STUDY ON INTERCESSORY PRAYER Have you had questions about prayer, especially Intercessory Prayer? Questions like: Is prayer really necessary? Is God's will automatic for a Christian or is it linked to prayer? And especially this one - How do we pray effectively for our loved ones? and for the lost? for protection? for healing? how do we "bear one another's burdens?" (Gal. 6:2) What about spiritual warfare? Does God bind the devil or do we? ...and so many others! This is a short, 6 week study - no books required, I will have an outline available. Starting Monday morning, November 5th at 10:00 AM in the Herde home, 110 N Cleveland. Please contact me if interested, so I have enough outlines on hand, and/or if you are interested in an evening study let me know - Michal

@ 316 841-3070 or [email protected].

DO YOU NEED HELP WINTERIZING YOUR HOME? Or are there some projects around the house or yard you need some help with? Is there someone you know who needs some help? If you have any questions please contact Ron and Darlene Jenkins at 448-3843 or you may contact the church office to be placed on the list. Thank you, Pastoring Committee

We are excited for the new Deacons that are coming in and wanted to go through some training so everyone can be familiar with the procedure of handling communion and offering on Sundays. We want to do all we do with excellence especially on Sunday mornings. We also need to elect a new Head Deacon as Charlie is retiring. We thank Charlie for all his hard work and his faithfulness. Get your plans set and we will see you on Monday.

“LIGHT THE NIGHT” Wednesday, October 31 from 6-8pm we are having our annual Light the Night with Jesus Festival. In past years, we have attracted 450+/- students to our harvest celebration! If you are not sure if something you want to use is “Dark” then give me a call. I am excited to see who God brings to this event this year. Please support this event by: 1. Decorating a trunk. 2. Bring Candy! 3. Help in the kitchen to serve Hot Chocolate 4. Set at the introduction table and pass out glow whistles flashlights. If you wish to help pass out the candy or have any questions, please contact Chris Goetz @ 503-474-7965.

“ROOTS” is Here! FCC IS HOSTING A NEW CHILDREN’S MID-WEEK PROGRAM! ROOTS BIG KICKOFF November 7th, 2012 from 6-7:30pm we are kicking off our new program called “ROOTS”. We are using curriculum from Group Publishing called Faithweaver Friends. This material strives to teach students to live the fruits of the Spirit found in Ephesians. Our name “Roots” is based off the theme found in Ephesians 3:14-21…”being rooted and established in love…”

Question: What does the Bible say about friendship? Answer: The Bible is not silent when it comes to the subject of friendship. The word "friend" is found about ninety times in the Bible. Some general teaching about friendship. In the first place, the Bible says, "A man that hath friends must show himself friendly" (Prov. 18: 24). Some are too distant to form friendships. There is great value in friendship. "Two are better than one," wrote the wise man (Eccl. 4: 9). A true friend will stand by, even in times of trouble. "A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity," the Bible says (Prov. 17: 17). To the converse, the Bible speaks of false friends when it warns, "Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint" (Prov. 25: 19). There are some people that are not desired to be friends. For instance, "Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go" (Prov. 22: 24). A true friend will tell us when we are wrong. Hear the Bible, "Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful" (Prov. 27: 6). Genuine friends must be cherished and not forsaken (Prov. 27: 10).

Jesus and friendship. Jesus is the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 3: 16; 1: 14). Yet, Jesus offers man his friendship. Jesus said, "Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you" (John 15: 14). Jesus is the ultimate friend of man. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15: 13). Jesus tasted death for every man and shed his blood for the remission of man's sins (Heb. 2: 9; Matt. 26: 28).

In closing, true friendship is one of the great gifts of life. As we saw, man in his friendship with Jesus, must obey Jesus (John 15: 14). We must believe, repent, confess Christ's deity, and be baptized (John 8: 24; Luke 13: 3, 5; Rom. 10: 9, 10, Matt. 10: 32; Mk. 16: 16). Jesus' friendship is unequalled!

We are making efforts to root our students in the love of Christ which surpasses all understanding and bears such great POWER that it can change people’s lives! Please bring your students to be a part of this program! It will help to build that deep rooted foundation which will help keep them strong when they step out on their own someday. We are really excited about this program and hope that you will make it a strong priority in your family. God Bless, Chris Goetz

Help For Those Who Struggle With A Judgmental Attitude

Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.Rom.14:4

When [other people] fail to satisfy our desires and live up to our expectations, we criticize and condemn them in our hearts if not with our words. As David Powlison writes:

We judge others--criticize, nit-pick, nag, attack, condemn--because we literally play God. This is heinous. [The Bible says,] "There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you to judge your neighbor?" Who are you when you judge? None other than a God wannabe. In this we become like the Devil himself (no surprise that the Devil is mentioned in James 3:15 and 4:7). We act exactly like the adversary who seeks to usurp God's throne and who acts as the accuser of the brethren. When you and I fight, our minds become filled with accusations: your wrongs and my rights preoccupy me. We play the self-righteous judge in the mini-kingdoms we establish.... I am not saying that it is inherently wrong to evaluate or even judge others within certain limits. As we will see in chapter 7, Scripture teaches that we should observe and evaluate others' behavior so that we can respond and minister to them in appropriate ways, which may even involve loving correction (see Matt. 7:1-5; 18:15; Gal. 6:1).

Taken from The Peacemaker: A Biblical Guide to Resolving Personal Conflict by Ken Sande, Updated Edition (Grand Rapids, Baker Books, 2003) p. 106-107.

Food for Thought

Why does Scripture repeatedly caution us regarding judging our Christian brothers and sisters? What is the fundamental danger involved in such judgment? Is it that we might judge other Christians inaccurately? Paul delivers a surprising answer in Romans 14:4. He says that the danger involved in judging other Christians actually has nothing to do with other Christians at all. The danger, he says, is that we judge God inaccurately when we say that other Christians cannot or will not change. "He [the person we are judging] will stand," Paul asserts, "for the Lord is able to make him stand" (emphasis ours). Judging others is wrong, says Paul, when it leaves the Lord--the only one who can change human hearts, and the one who is passionately committed to change human hearts--out of the change equation. It neglects entirely God's great promise in Philippians 1:6, "he who began a good work in [that brother or sister] will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Judgment of other Christians that is not grounded in God's power and promises is heinous judgment indeed, as David Powlison notes in the quote above. It is the opposite of humility and confident faith. If you are struggling with a judgmental attitude toward another Christian, remember Scripture's command to "hope in the Lord" and don't be discouraged by the actions (or inactions) of that person.

Remember and repeat to yourself as you pray for the other person (and for your own patience): The Lord is able to make him stand!

WHAT WE BELIEVE:

...Jesus

Jesus is fully human and fully divine (Philippians 2:5-8) existing

eternally, fully equal with the Father (John 1:1,2). He was begotten of

the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:34-35).

He has proven Himself to be the Son of God by His deeds, fulfillment of

prophecy, crucifixion and bodily resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
